Yes, you read that correctly. Keyboarding is
not only a necessary skill in today's world, but it's an
enjoyable
one as well. Maybe you hated your high school instructor
or were saddled with a useless machine. "Fun with Keyboarding" was
designed to modify your attitude as well as your fingering. Before
you begin, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Keyboarding well takes practice, practice, practice.
It can actually be painful at times, but the results are well worth
the effort.
- Relax! You're dealing with a machine. Decide that you
will master it.
- Resist the temptation to look at your hands. Much like driving
a car, muscle memory will develop, and the skill you learn will be one
you never forget. (Think of it this way--if you look down every
time you use the brake while driving, what would happen?)
- Forget about errors. For the first several weeks of this class,
the more errors you make, the more I realize that you aren't looking
at your hands.
- Posture does count. Fingers should rest lightly above the keys.
Using pads under your wrists can actually cause you harm.
By following these tips and using the resources below, you should
find yourself having a great time!
