The Doors

The Doors in the 21st Century
Mohegan Arena- 5/6/04
John and DD

The doors were to open at 6:30, but they didn't let us in the arena till 7:30.
John and I made our way into the Arena and found our seats which were actually pretty darn good ones!
The crowd grew bigger and bigger.

The Doors didn't come out at 7:30 as planned.
Someone informed us that they had gone to get a drink just outside the arena and heard that The Doors were just about to go on stage but the vibes were not right...not yet.
John and I talked casually with some fans seated next and in front of us.
All of a sudden, the people up in the bleachers seats started whisling and yelling for the guys to come out and play.
More and more people joined in until ......
at around 8:30, one hour after their sheduled time, they came out to the roar of the crowd.

A screen in back of the band showed clips from the 60s and some pics of Jim Morrison.
The Doors started to play....

They played songs such as, "Hello, I love you", "Love Street", The Whiskey Song", "L A Woman", "Spanish Caravan", The Unknown Soldier", "Backdoor Man", "21st Century Fox", and "Light My Fire".
We couldn't help but be transformed back into time
when the lead singer, Ian Astbury,
who looks and acts and sings and dances very much like Jim Morrison, performed those songs for us.
The songs were done exactly the way they were done when Jim was with them.
I was totally blown away by the way Ian danced around that stage and held that mic in the exact way Morrison did all those years ago.
Two of the original band members are still in the group....
Ray Manzarek and Bobby Krieger.
The crowd couldn't stay still as the Doors performed all their old songs.
People were up outta their seats dancing and swaying and clapping and singing and having a good ol' time!

It so happened that it was Ian's birthday that day and they brought out a cake for him on stage.
The band played while we all sang the happy birthday song to him.

Ray, who plays the keyboard, said that Jim woulda liked that crowd and would have been pleased that night.
May Jimmy rest in peace.

After the last song was played we left the arena and were very happy to have had this opportunity to see this great band perform LIVE at the Mohegan Arena.
John and DD recommend whole heartedly you seeing The Doors of the 21st Century if you get the chance.

See ya at the next show!
