The Goo Goo Dolls Started off with a long road of nothingness in Buffalo in the 1980's. The band, consisting of Johnny Rzenik, Robby Takac, and Mike Malinin was first named the Sex Maggots. Before the Goo Goo Dolls had anything near to fame they had recorded five records. Their first hit was from the album, A Boy Named Goo and was entitled "Name". After this brief success Rzenik had major writers block. After watching the movie City of Angels he was inspired to write the band's biggest hit to date, "Iris". The song appeared on the movies soundtrack. Close to six months later in October of 1998 the Goo Goo Dolls released Dizzy up the Girl which has been certified as triple platinum. Dizzy up the Girl contained three hits; "Slide", "Broadway", and "Black Balloon". Lately the Goo Goo Dolls have seen only minor successes, at least compared to what they've done before. Who knows what they will come up with next. |
