Band on Hiatus 31/10/02
Emevas will be taking a break until early next year while drummer Paul Macfarlan goes over east to live for a while. While he's there Paul will be forwarding our first Demo Tape to some eastern states record labels and befriend some eastern states bands who are also in our situation, helping each other to line-up gigs and stuff. Fret not, Emevas HAVE NOT broken up. You will be informed of any side projects that start up during the hiatus via this website. Stay Tuned!
Demo Tape Recording 26/10/02
Emevas recorded a demo tape this past Sunday at Elite Sound Studios in Osbourne Park. We have recorded 3 original songs and one cover to creating into existence what will be the most sought after early demo recording in ten years time. *Cough*.
The demos were knocked up pretty much at the last minute, after about 5 hours of jamming and trying to perfect our "official" cover (Radiohead's "Creep"), 2 new lyric less songs (entitled at the last minute "I'm Falling" and "Swing Set") and another from a jam earlier in the year ("My Theory"). Due to our extreme lack of experience with tape decks, recording mics and sound mixing (not to mention the unhelpfulness of the staff at Elite, we set every frickin' thing up ourselves) the demo is very rough, the vocals being nearly inaudible. However, the performance and vibe of the band comes through very strong in the music, and shows a very promising aspect to the songs we write.
All Day Jam/ Small Performance/Name Change 25/10/02
On the Saturday before recording, Emevas had one of the most historic days in the bands history. Coming together at drummer Paul's house for a jam around noon, we used this day to get our demo tunes organised and crank out the old favourite cover tunes. It was on this day that we found out that we were playing in front of a few people later that afternoon around 7, and considering that we didn't have a mic stand or any lrics written for our originals, we would have to practice quite a bit. It was around 2 o'clock that we took our 3rd break due to the amount of people stampeding in and out of Paul's tiny house that we sat down to discuss our band name. As stated in the history section, we were once known as Anesthetic, a not very well thought out and comparably unoriginal name. We had once before discussed a name change, something that was completely original and had meaning, but never put these thoughts into action. It was here that Matt showed us his concept for a band name. It was here he showed us Emevas, a name with a twist.... all we can say is write out the band logo seen at the start of the site and reflect.
So after that we continued to jam, with extensive breaks due to Paul's frantic party organizing and taking on the dare to wear a catholic school dress while playing that evening. And so, it got around 6:00, and we played one of the most electrified jams the band has ever done, pulling of each song better than ever before. As can be seen on the video tape of the set, we all came together and played a rocking sequence of songs, each one three times better than the jumbled noise that passers by had heard earlier that day. Pity only ten people were there to see it.......
