Concert Memories
August 4, 1972,Curtis Hixon Hall, Tampa, FL
On your list of concerts in which Poco performed in 1972, you have one for August 4, 1972 at Curtis Hixon Hall in Tampa, Florida. According to that entry, Jeff Beck was the headliner, followed by Poco and Argent. Your note for that concert states that because there are so many unused tickets floating around for that show, it may not have actually taken place. I have a stub from that concert (with the date clearly marked), so I would assume it went on as planned. I remember attending a concert during the early 70s at Curtis Hixon in which I saw Beck and Argent, but I don't remember seeing Poco that night. That doesn't mean they didn't perform that night -- my memory is rather cloudy. I particularly remember seeing Jeff Beck because I was pleasantly surpised that Appice and Bogert (former Cactus) played with him, and that particular combination had not been announced. I also vividly remember the lead singer for Beck that night. It was a pretty boy with long blond hair who sashayed around the stage like a stripper. I found out later that he had been one of the voices for the Archies cartoon on TV. How he ever got the job with Beck is beyond me. Too put it mildly, he sucked, but the rest of the band put on a good show. I hope this helps clear up the confusion over whether that show took place on that date.
