A Brief Description of the Songs

get this gear! Please take some time to send me your feedback. If you would like to hear an arrangement and have the sheet music, please forward it to me and I will do my best. However, please note that my days of doing the concert band and symphony stuff are over. Too much work and too little payoff. Thanx!

James Bond Themes

This is a medley I arranged in the mid-1980's for an advanced concert band. It contains all the parts in a standard concert band and is written in the appropriate key for each instrument. Unfortunately, it did not fully translate into midi and some of the more 'midi-obscure' instruments reverted to standard piano. However, if you open it in a music creator programme, it should play properly and the parts can be printed off. This contains standard Bond themes and one or two you may not expect.

Eine Kleine Nachtmusik-Mozart

K 525...what more is there to say? This is a properly notated string quartet piece and can be printed off through a music programme. Nothing can replace a live performance but I think Mozart would have enjoyed the ability that computers would allow him to actually hear his music as he composed. Salieri would have been so jealous!

Careless Whisper-Wham!

OK....so the band was cheesy! But this is a nice piece from an otherwise simplistic 'cutesy 'til you wanna puke' 80's band. This has been arranged for a full jazz band and is properly notated in key. Plus...nothing can beat a sax solo!

Drops of Jupiter-Train

Flavour of the month band in 2003 and 2004. They may last but they really should look at adding some more pitches and rhythms to their melodies. This is a solo piano piece. I originally tried some different styles and instruments with the piano but it just seemed a little more powerful on its' own.

Everybody Hurts-REM

We always need a little sad song in our lives. This is a good one.

Father Figure-George Michael

The "Faith" album was huge in its day and he won an R&B award for this album. He may have fallen on difficult times in recent years but his potential to come back is clear in this album alone. 'Father Figure' was not the biggest hit on the album but best showed a clear break from the Wham! days.

Gospel John-Jeff Steinburg

Never heard of Jeff Steinburg? Ok...I'll grant you that. But I know you've heard of the man who played this song even if you don't realize it....Maynard Ferguson. Maynard is, perhaps, best known for playing the theme from the "Rocky" movie series and making a trumpet reach heights most players only dream of. I saw Maynard and his band back in the 80's at the rotating concert floor at Ontario Place in Toronto. Maynard is still going strong today. This is my favourite piece by him and I arranged for an intermediate jazz band after hearing him play it. Take a look at a geat webpage and you'll understand. http://maynard.ferguson.net/

(I Just) Died in Your Arms-Cutting Crew

All I can say about this song is that it takes me back to the 80's more than most others. Not a difficult song musically but one that is hard to forget.

I Love Rock n Roll-Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

Quarters, arcade, music, jukebox,Joan Jett. My early teenage years.

I Touch Myself-Divinyls

Read the lyrics....enough said.

I'll Make Love to You-Boys II Men

Boys II Men were far from something I would listen to on my own but they do typify the vocal quartet bands that seem to have sprung up like weeds in the 90's...and they were probably the best in their genre.

I Would Do Anything For Love-Meatloaf

With the exception of Freddie Mercury, I don't think there has been a more talented male singer in Rock (sorry Elvis fans!!) and none that can make you feel the emotion of the words the way Meatloaf can. The man has range, power and a need to avoid the mundane.

New York New York-John Kander

Hate Sinatra...love the way he sang this one. This is written for a full jazz band in the proper key for each instrument.

SK8ER BOI-Avril Lavigne

My daughter made me!

Tears in Heaven-Eric Clapton

I don't think any parent can listen to this song and not be heart-broken as Eric sings of the death of his son. As he strums the strings of his guitar, he pulls the strngs on your heart. Few other songs can match the genuine emotion of his lyrics and the music he used to help him come to terms with this tragedy.

Total Eclipse of the Heart-Bonnie Tyler

Musically similar to Meatloaf in that there are clear sections to the song that are significantly varied. I always liked that style in rock. Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" would best illustrate this but you won't see it here as too much would be lost without a Freddie Mercury vocal.

Wishing Well-Terrence Trent Darby

Not sure why I did this but...hey...it sounds pretty realistic.
