Liberty is your heritage

Now, if you happen to come home and find your house ransacked you might think it's burglary & under the Patriot Act you wouldn't be entitled to know!! You'd better read this first and Speak now or forever hold your peace! Give your power away to others and then discover WHO GAVE YOUR RIGHTS AWAY

Are you the next target of the Thought Police? (Chicago Trib)Careful how you question authority it might be unpatriotic -- it could get you on the black-list! TEACHERS BEWARE!!

See the story -- re: Taking Liberties by Jacob Weisberg

In a letter released Tuesday, Kucinich and 38 other House members wrote:

``We oppose the creation of military tribunals, which would permit secret arrests, secret charges using secret evidence, secret prosecutions, secret witnesses, secret trials, secret convictions, secret sentencing and even secret executions.''

The only two non-Democrats who signed the letter were Rep. Bob Barr, R-Ga., and independent Rep. Bernie Sanders of Vermont.

Kucinich said he plans to put an amendment on the Defense Department spending bill this week that would keep the government from spending public money to create and operate the military tribunal.................

Human rights group protests treatment of French detainee Free Moussaoui
ASSOCIATED PRESS

Amnesty International wants you to help Free Moussaoui, the French citizen who was detained in August after raising suspicions while seeking flight training.  No charges have been posted although he remains to be held for questioning. The group wants suspects in the investigation to be given a public trial without the possibility of the death penalty. Under the Patriot Act he could be executed for carrying an airplane pamplet! Although...we'll never know because that would be a secret! What if he was your brother?

U.S. accused of mistreating 9/11 detainees

Amnesty International says human rights of inmates have been abused raising concerns that prisoners are being held under inhumane conditions! Has the torture already begun? Are the secret sessions already in order?
Democrats question Bush tribunal plan
WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats began making plans Tuesday to fight President George W. Bush's decision to prosecute suspected terrorists before secret military tribunals.

Editors note on Tribunals and such loose terminology defining the measures of the Patriot Act -- all citizens should be well advised that if they are Normal or unbathed, poor looking, too happy, too sad, just plain ugly or --- drunk, disorderly, carrying a concealed box-cutter, wearing beards, beads, togas, feathers, bracelets, chewing gum, nose rings, carry novels with explosive contents on the front, peace activists, writers, artists, humorists, or speak a foreign language while carrying a loaded airline ticket in their hand --- might mean they don't get to make that phone-call. What does that mean? It means -- You might be a terroist -- so kissayourbutt good-by. Believe it or not some people have been banned from airplanes from making smart-ass remarks and carrying suspicious novels. What use to be the best medicine (laughter) has now become a zero tolerence.

Civil Liberties We'd Really Miss

Forget about McDonalds super-sizing, bathing, getting gas, cell-phone calls doctors appointments,  --  some die-hard conservatives and White House allies a little nervous. (Chicago Trib)

Even terrorists have civil rights

Why would anyone want to create a terrorist act simply to follow in FDR's footsteps?as a statement of national policy, he couldn't be more wrong.

Six years after Roosevelt issued the executive order that Bush mimicked, the United States helped write, and then signed, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights — an international agreement that recognizes the "equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family" to, among other things, a "public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal" for anyone charged with a criminal offense.(USA Today)

Ashcroft evades issues on Numbers of 'detained'  P.O.W's. (That's what they really are right?) Leahy given the Ashcroft shuffle on truth while 1100 or more prisoners held in secret detention - (Read Time mag.) When was the last time you were questioned for over 90 days? Are they still alive? Has the secret tribunal already kicked and are torture and execution already taking place? Question how fast the paper was shoved, then remember last year we had a presidential candidate moving into the White House before the results were in. It seems that this administration will become famous for shooting first and asking questions later.
