My Peace I Give To You

By Bill Glover

"Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of highest privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory." Romans 5: 1-2 (NLT)

God's peace is something we received when we first believed and trusted Jesus. It is where we now stand. We stand in this grace in Christ because of what He has done on the cross. He has freely given us His peace. In John chapter 14 the Apostle tells us what Jesus said. He writes, " I am leaving you with a gift -peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid. Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again." And, in chapter 16 John writes, "I have told you this so that you will have peace in me." (NLT)

His peace is not like the world gives. It is not dependent on or affected by our circumstances. The world's peace depends on the apparent lack of conflict, problems and trials. The peace Jesus gives transcends and overcomes in the midst of conflicts, trials and even sorrows. This peace is far more than the mere human mind can understand. (Read John 16: 33)

You may say that you don't feel the peace God has given us. You may be thinking that in your experience this peace has somehow eluded you. Well, I would agree that a lot of the time we are not conscious of God's peace, but does that mean we don't have it? Is God not with us and in us all the time? Doesn't Jesus live in us by the power of His Holy Spirit? Are you automatically aware of His presence at all times? And when you're not conscious of Him, does that mean He is not there with you and in you?

It is the same way when it comes to experiencing God's peace. The peace we stand in is a gift that comes through faith in what Jesus has done. To experience, feel or be aware of this peace in our lives requires active faith and is a product or fruit of walking in the Holy Sprit. Peace of mind and heart comes by setting our minds on and putting our faith in what God has done and having confidence in what He is doing in us and through our every circumstance. We must actively and continually put our trust in God and His care for us by giving Him our conflicts, trials and sorrows in prayer, fixing our minds on His promises, and thanking Him for His provision. (Read Philippians 4: 6-8) To be aware or conscious of this peace, and for this peace to grow in our lives and keep our hearts from being troubled, we must learn then to walk in the Spirit by setting our minds on God and His Word and trusting Jesus in every trial. In Isaiah 26: 3 the Prophet writes, "You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in You, whose thoughts are fixed on You!" (NLT)

"So, I pray that God, Who gives you hope, will keep you happy and full of peace as you believe in Him. May you overflow with hope through the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13 (NLT)
