Producer George Martin initially chose this tune to be The Beatles' first single. The Beatles complained about Martin's choice but performed it so that Martin could eventually agree with them. Nice enough (especially in its gentle, folk-style delivery), but mainly it's a little too gentle for The Beatles; it hardly pained the world to wait until Anthology 1 to hear it from the Fabs. (The song later went to Gerry and the Pacemakers.)
