“Okay…c’mon…10 more seconds ‘till school’s over..9..8..7..6..5..4..3..2..” I thought. RIIIING! The last bell of the school year had rung, and it was finally summer. It was mid-June and the weather was hot, but nice. Me, Kel and Sara met up in the lobby of the high school and went to go join the mob of people rushing out. We were going to meet up with Larissa and Cori the next block over; their high school was 3 blocks down from ours. Because there were so many people, the kids in the one high school were split up into 2. So there was basically a “north” and “south” highs school. We were on the “north” side.
Today was especially hot, so I was wearing lightweight jean capris, a pink tank top and to add to the “summer effect,” I had a pair of fading sunglasses on the top of my head to hold my hair back. Sara and Kelly were wearing jeans with tank tops and flip-flops. We went to go walk out and I could feel the hot sun already beaming on my shoulders. We waited at the top of the steps for a couple minutes; waiting for the mass of people to die down somewhat.
******* Another POV*******
I was standing next to my car in the parking lot across from the school. She was just standing there, looking amazing. The shirt she was wearing was the one that I gave her right before I left; it looked so great on her. Just then I saw a shadow stand next to me. ::whistling:: “Wow..look at those 3,” he started and I knew who it was. “Don’t go near them Jimmy…” I faced him. “Why not? What are YOU gonna do about it, Greg?” he chucked to himself and kept his eye on Laurie, Sara and Kelly; particularly Laurie. He started whistling again, and I could feel my face starting to burn up. “I’m serious Jimmy…don’t..touch them,” “You can’t do anything about it…I mean, (he started to laugh) they don’t even know that you’re here!” Laur’s cell phone slipped out of her hands, so she had to bend over to pick it up. “WOW! Look at THAT one..I’m gonna-” (I cut him off) “Don’t go near Laurie, Jimmy..I swear if you do-” he then cut me off. “Ooh…so she has a name? Laurie…Laurie…what a nice name, too bad that I’ll forget it after tonight,” he started laughing again. That was it…he broke the last straw.
I slammed him up against the hood of the car. “You…are not going to TOUCH my girlfriend..and I swear..if you do, you’ll be so sorry,” He tried to push me off but I managed to hold him against the car. “GOT IT?!?” I raised my voice; but I had to be careful because I know that if Laurie saw me like this, she wouldn’t be exactly thrilled. I loosened my grip and he shoved me off and started to chuckle to himself again. “Whatever..” and then he walked away. She hadn’t seen me, and at the last minute, I decided that I’d surprise her later.
*******Back to Laurie’s POV*******
It was 2:30 and we decided to start our walk to meet Larissa and Cori at the halfway point. We somehow made our way through the crowd and started our walk. I kept looking at my cell phone to see if I had missed a call; I hadn’t. So I dialed *86 to check to see if I had a voicemail from him. I hadn’t talked to him in a couple of days, and I needed to hear his voice again. These past 2 months had been hard for me, but I was dealing with it. “There are no new messages in your mailbox” the electronic voice started. I hung up. “Laur..he’ll call, don’t worry” Kel started. “Oh yeah, and you act like you don’t check to see if Frank called you..” I laughed. “Shut up,” she acted pissed, but after she said it she had a smile on her face again. We were all randomly laughing and talking when we finally met up with Cori and Larissa about 5 minutes later. “HEEEEYY” Court and Larissa ran up to us. We all hugged and decided that we’d go to “2 Scoops” for some ice cream. =)
After we had all ordered and gotten our ice cream, we went and sat down on the long, wooden bench outside. We hadn’t been out there for more than a couple of minutes when a group of guys went to go walk into the parlor. “Hey Laurie…” I looked up to see who it was; it was Jimmy. “Hi..” I trailed off. Jimmy went to school with us and graduated last year; he was one of the biggest a$$ holes that went to our school. We had never talked, so it seemed weird to me that he decided to randomly talk to me. “So what’s goin on?” he pushed Cori practically off the bench so that he could sit next to me. “EXCUSE ME?!?” Court got up and stood in front of him; he pissed her off. “You’re excused” he mocked and laughed to himself. “Ugh” I rolled my eyes, and turned around to continue talking to everyone else.
“So what’s this that I hear that you have a boyfriend?” he said turning me around. “Why are you all of the sudden interested in if I have a boyfriend or not? And yes, I have a boyfriend,” I said, giving him a little attitude. (he was one of those people who was so rude, and you couldn’t stand to talk to them for more than 2 seconds) “So has he called you?” he noticed that I was glancing at my phone, again. “Is there a point to this conversation?” I glanced at him. The other 4 were behind me, looking quite amused. “I’m just saying, I mean, I’d want to spend time with my girlfriend..” Sara cut him off. “Jimmy, you haven’t had a girlfriend since like, the 4th grade!” we all started to laugh. “He’s out of town, so we’ve been keeping in touch by the phone..” I started. “Really?” he all of the sudden had a sparkle in his eye; we all knew that he was up to something. “Yeah..” I trailed off, curious to hear what he was going to say, even though I knew that he’d probably be lying anyways. “His name’s Greg, right?” he wanted to be reassured. I didn’t answer, I just looked at him. “Well, if you’re interested..I saw him earlier,” he started to get up and walk away. “Whatever Jimmy…” I rolled my eyes and turned back around, and we continued our conversation, but what he’d said made me think. ‘Was Greg back home? And if he was…why hadn’t he called?’
