"BRIAN! Wait!" Jennifer yelled, trying to get Brian to let go of her arm. He finally released her arm after they reached the school yard. He turned around to hear what Jen had to say. "What the hell was that?" he asked, biting down on his jaw. Jennifer could see his muscle's on his jaw flexing so hard. It was starting to frighten her. "Brian, you just can't go up on stage and punch Matt like that! We aren't together anymore. How many times do I have to keep telling you this?" she asked. "You know what Jen? I broke up with you for Megan, and I admit that. But I dumped her, you even saw that! So now you're just gonna stand here and tell me that you didn't WANT me to punch that idiot?" Jennifer stood there silent, asking herself if that was what she wanted or not. "NO! I mean, yeah I wanted you to get rid of Megan, but…..not this way. Not hurting Matt." "What the heck is your problem Jen? You got what you wanted didn't you? You have me now! Don't you understand that? Say bye to Matt, because he was just some lame guy to help you rebound from me." Jen was so perplexed, wondering how she got herself into such a big mess in the first place. "Look, I'm sorry that I hurt you in the first place, but I'm back, so there's no need to even THINK about Matt anymore." Brian said, assuring her. Jennifer shook her head in disbelief that this was even happening. Brian lifted her face from her chin, making her look at him. "We're together again Jen!" he said smiling, and leaned in to kiss her. She turned her head and he ended up kissing her in the cheek. "You know what Brian? I think I should go!" she said, grabbing her bag and turning around to leave. "Take as much time as you need Jen. Call me tonight alright?" he yelled to her. She didn't even reply but continued to walk. She didn't feel like going home and she didn't feel like going back to the Talent Show. Everything was so crazy. How did I get myself into this mess? she thought to herself, still feeling as if it were all a dream. She slowly walked to a nearby hill and just sat there, more confused than she had ever been. Is this what I've been waiting for? she thought. If this is what I wanted, why aren't I happy? Jen was so sure that when she got back with Brian, she'd be the happiest person alive. But for some reason, he wasn't the same anymore. Seeing his angry face, seeing him punch Matt and just SEEING him made her hate him more and more. All summer, she'd been waiting to get back with Brian. She was so caught up with getting back together with him, that she didn't even realize that there was the perfect guy by her side. Jennifer smiled. Just the thought of what Matt did for her that afternoon made the tingly feeling in her stomach come back. But the thought of leaving him hurt so much. How could I have done that, to Matt? So what she wanted to know was whom she should choose. Matt or Brian? The sun had already disappeared, and Jennifer found herself alone on top of the hill. She glared up at the stars, remembering that one night she had with him.
"Describe your dream girl." "I also like girls that I can talk to, girls that are fun to hang around with. The basic all around, out-going type of girl who knows how to have fun. I don't like girls who are all fake, I like a real girl, who I can be myself around and at times be crazy with!" he laughed. "Someone that I would think about when I wake up in the morning, and someone I think about before I sleep. And she has to love the beach, cuz I'm MADD about the beach! Someone who will like me for ME, understand me and knows that I'M MATT! The next door type of guy who can have fun during any situation and will love me just the way I love her. That's basically my dream girl!" * * * * * * * * * * * "I know that you're MATT!" she yelled out loud. She looked around, feeling like an idiot talking to herself, but she couldn't help but feel that all those qualities seemed to have suited her. Jennifer realized she DID know him for him, and understood him and knew that he was Matt, just like he said. Her face lit, quickly sitting up. She then realized why Matt was so upset with her that one night when talking about Brian. Everything came to her, and she regretting not even taking the time to see that Matt had liked her. Not only was he there for her whenever she needed him, but he was always the guy to cheer her up and make her smile. Brian could NEVER compare to Matt, because Matt was beyond perfect. He was everything she needed and everything she ever wanted in a guy. He was Matt!
"JENNIFER!" she quickly turned around to see who had been calling her, but was surprised to see Brian. "There you are! I've been calling you at home. Why are you here?" he asked, trying to sound innocent. "Because." she dully answered. "What are YOU doing here?" "Isn't it obvious, I came to see you. I missed you already!" he said with a smile. Jennifer rolled her eyes, feeling more and more annoyed with him each time he opened his mouth to speak. Brian held her hand. "What are you doing here all alone?" "Nothing, just thinking." she replied. "You better not be thinking about that idiot Matt!" he demanded. "You know better than that!" he said, angered. She didn't want to say anything, because she knew that it would just end up in another fight. "But it doesn't matter anymore Jen. Because I know you still love me!" he told her, reassuring himself. "Right?" Do I? she thought to herself. Have I ever? She doubted that she even loved him, even though she said it in the past. But for some reason, he become more of a pain than a guy that she wanted by her all the time. "I love you Jen!" he told her, leaning in to kiss her. She rolled her eyes at him again, thinking about how pathetic it sounded when he said it. He then kissed her in the lips unexpectedly. She could feel his lips against hers, hoping her feelings for him would come back. But she felt absolutely NOTHING. He was meaningless to her, and it had been the worst kiss she had EVER had. The memory of her and Matt about to kiss on stage was another thing which ran through her head. She pulled away from Brian. "I can't do this!" she told him, standing to her feet. She glared at her watch, realizing that it had already been 8 o'clock and remembered that her and Matt were to ride Dreamer tonight. "Jen? Where you going?" Brian asked, also standing up. She didn't answer him and continued to walk towards the beach. "What the hell is this? Get back here!" he demanded, but he already knew that he had already lost her. He watched her walk away with ease, knowing they were not meant to be.
As Jennifer approached the beach, her heart began to race. She wanted to see Matt again sooo badly, and apologize for the incident that happened earlier that day. After spending the day with Brian, it didn't just make her understand that her and Brian weren't meant to be, but opened her eyes to realize how much Matt meant to her. His words repeated through her head…"I know you must be hurting right now, but I just want you to know how much I care. You are my wishing star, my dreamer… my everything". Jennifer's face lit and her cheeks turned a bright red. He was just too cute. She couldn't think of anything else but him, and riding the boat with him tonight would just make everything complete. Jennifer then spotted DREAMER from across the beach. She was glad that he wasn't that upset to have left without her. She began to run, getting closer and closer to the boat by the second. But when she almost reached the boat, she noticed someone standing there. It was Matt, who was standing there with his hands in his pockets, staring down at something. She couldn't tell exactly what he was looking at, but she had full view of him. He wasn't able to see her and had no idea she was standing there, but just seeing him made her more and more anxious. She then stopped running, with a bright smile on her face. Jennifer opened her mouth, getting ready to call his name and already thinking of the happy emotion which she expected him to have. She opened her…."Maa!" she started, and someone stood up in front of Matt. Jennifer stopped herself from continuing to say his name, and realized that someone was in the boat with him. A girl stood up and gave Matt a hug. Jennifer's mouth dropped. She was able to see EVERYTHING. She saw the way the girl hugged him, and the way his arms were wrapped around her. The girl seemed familiar, so Jennifer inched closer, discovering that it had been "TIFF?" Jennifer yelled. Interrupting Matt and Tiffany, Tiffany let loose of Matt and quickly turned around to see who had called her name. Matt looked up, surprised to even see Jennifer there. "How??"…Jennifer started. She stood there, not knowing what to do and not knowing what to say. Matt and Tiffany..together? Jennifer asked herself, still confused at the fact that she had not realized it in the first place. She tried her best to hold back her tears, but it was too hard. A tear managed to release from her eye and dropped down to her chin. Jennifer didn't know what to do. Part of her wanted to run, but her knees just wouldn't buckle. "Forget it!" she yelled, and finally stormed off as fast as she could. "Jen! WAIT!" she heard Tiff calling, but she didn't listen. Her legs seemed to have ran on its own, because she just kept running and running. Finally out of the beach, she ran into her house, slamming the front door behind her. She balled her eyes out, not understanding what had just happened. She blinked repeatedly, wishing it were all a dream…but it wasn't. Her eyes were so red, and tears fled from her eyes. Leaning against the front door, she sunk to the ground, more vulnerable than ever. The vision of Matt and Tiffany together made her downhearted that she couldn't even pick herself up from the floor. I guess it's true! Jennifer thought to herself. You never know how special that person is until you lose him!
