The sun shone bright the next day, when Jennifer and her best friend Tiffany decided to attend a lacrosse game at a near-by park. "Man Jen, REELAX! They have the number one HOTTIES here!" "Yeah, I know! But the thing is, I don't wanna see Brian! What if he's playing today?" Jennifer asked nervously, as they got closer and closer to the park. "I'm trying to get over him you know?" "Obviously Jen, but come on, this is also a great way to meet NEW hot guys." They soon arrived at the game, and managed to steal some seats at the front. "Ooooh, take a look at that hot guy over there!" Tiffany pointed. Jennifer quickly turned at the direction, and found a cute guy wearing a jersey with the number 01 written on it. His face wasn't clear to her, neither was the hair because of the helmet he wore, but she managed to see his eyes. They were a deep blue color that made her melt. "Yeah, he's pretty cute!" Jennifer admitted. The whistle was blown and the game was coming to its end. "How much longer???" Jennifer asked. "Ummm…" Tiffany glanced at her watch. "Just 5 minutes left!" she answered. "Man, are you serious! I wanted to see the whole game!" Jen complained. Because Jen was a very out-going and athletic girl, she loved to watch games and compete against other people. "Are you crazy Jen? The shorter the better! That means, the faster we get to go up to the guys and….…TALK to them!" she said with a nudge, hinting Jen to try and talk with the guy she had been eyeing during the whole game. The sound of the whistle was blown, and the game was over. The guys had been heading towards the locker rooms to change out of their jerseys and helmets, when Jennifer spotted the cute guy. Just as he was about to pass her, she yelled to him. "Good game! You totally rock!" she said, hoping she didn't sound like an idiot. He immediately stopped, and continued to remain silent. "You're really great! So tell me, what's your name?" she asked. OMG, do I sound desperate? she thought to herself, kinda laughing. The guy slowly removed his helmet, and to Jennifer's surprise, the guy that she had been eyeing the whole time was.. "Matt!" he answered smiling. "YOU!" she screamed! "But, how? Huh?" she replied, confused. "You play lacrosse?" "Oh yeah, definitely!" Jennifer looked away, turning red. "So what are you doing here anyway?" "Nothing, just wanted to see the game, that's it!" there was an awkward pause between them. "So yeah.." she started, "I'm gonna go! Good game though!" She said, as she began walking towards Tiffany, who had already been chatting up 3 guys. "No Jen, wait up for me! Let me get changed, and then maybe we can grab a bite to eat. I'm starved!" he insisted. "Yeah, sure, why not?" Matt quickly headed to the change-rooms as Jennifer and Tiffany waited for him. "Soooo, tell me everything! What did the hottie say?" Tiffany asked eagerly. "Nothing, I know the guy!" she replied. "What? Are you serious? So, you guys have this thing or what?" "WHAT? No, yeah right! How could you think that? I mean, no..me and Matt? No. Just…no!" she replied. "Man Jen, I dunno. If you don't call what I just saw MAJOR flirting, then..I have no idea!" "Shut up Tiff!" "Fine then, do you mind if I ask him out or whatever? I mean, only if you're ok with it!" "Me, ok with it? Yeah, why wouldn't I? Go ahead. I mean, he's just a friend, I guess. I mean, I know he's cute and all, but why would I like him?" "Ok, ok Jen! I get the point! So that's a yeah right?" Tiffany asked once more. "YEAH!" Jennifer replied.
After the game, Jennifer, Matt and Tiffany all headed to a nearby McDonald's to grab a bite to eat. "So Matt, you're pretty good at lacrosse!" Tiffany complemented. "I try my best during the games, but yeah, thanks." he answered shyly. Matt, who was cute, out-going and athletic was also really shy when it came to girls. He was one of those guys that knew what kind of girl he wanted. "Matt isn't THAT good Tiff!" Jennifer said. "He obviously hasn't faced me before!" she assured herself, laughing out loud as Matt gave her the strangest look. Tiffany glared at Matt, waiting for his reaction. He burst out laughing. "Please Jen! Don't flatter yourself, because it's pretty obvious that I can cream you!" "Matt Ballinger, how delusional are you? I can cream you anytime and any day!" she said smiling. She then looked over at Tiffany, who seemed to have enjoyed their fight. She gave Jen a look, leading Jen to nudge her on the side. "Shut up Tiff!" "Ouch!" Tiffany screamed, still laughing at Jen. "You know what guys? I ah, I forgot! I have to go get something from the….place! You know, business! So yeah, have fun you two!" Tiffany said, as she quickly stood to her feet smiling as she exited the restaurant. "Tiff, wait! Where you going?" Jen yelled as she watched her best friend leave the restaurant. "Urgh, I swear! Tiffany is weird sometimes!" she laughed to herself. Jen took her seat across Matt, as they both chewed in silence. OMG! Awkward pause! I feel like such an idiot. Say something Jen, she thought to herself. Jen opened her mouth, hoping to say something interesting, but all that came out was a burst of laughter. "Uhhhh, Jen??? Are you ok?" Matt asked laughing too. "What, do I have something stuck between my teeth?" he asked paranoid. "No!" Jen replied still laughing. "I seriously have no idea!" Jen was silent for a moment, forcing herself to stop laughing. EWWW! OMG! What's wrong with me? Knowing that she was nervous and shy just like Matt, she remained quiet, hoping she wouldn't make a fool out of herself. Just then, a guy that entered, caught Jennifer's eye. Matt quickly turned around to see who she'd been looking at. "BRIAN?" Jennifer said out loud. "What?" Matt asked, confused. "Brian, Brian the ex Brian?" "Yeah, shhh! Talk to me! I don't want him to come here!" From the side of her eye, she was able to see Brian inch closer and closer to her. She bit her bottom lip, hoping he wouldn't recognize her, but after seeing him stand next to the table, she knew it was impossible. She slowly looked up, revealing Brian and some tall skinny girl who managed to cling onto him. "Jen?? What are you doing here?" he asked. She took a deep breath and looked at Matt, who just sat there quiet. "Hi Brian! I was gonna ask you the same thing." Brian looked over at Matt, with a puzzled look in his face. "Hey! I know you!" Brian figured out. "You're that dude who plays lacrosse aren't you? 01 right?" he asked, pointing at Matt. "Yeah." he simply replied. "You know Matt???" Jen asked confused. "Man, you totally creamed our team last season. You still play???" "Yeah, of course!" The memory flashed before Matt's eyes. Everything was clear to him now. Brian was the guy who tried to be Mr. Big Shot, and when Matt scored a goal, Brian practically winded him. To Matt, Brian was the "lacrosse idiot". He hated him in every way possible. Jennifer looked over at the girl who had been clinging onto Brian, as she gave Jen cut-eye. The girl began to laugh hysterically. "OMG! Brian, THIS thing was your ex? You gotta be kidding!" Jen sat there quiet, and embarrassed, trying her best to hold back the tears which she knew would soon fled. "Shut up Megan!" Brian told her. "Anyway, we gotta get going. C ya later Jen. Bye Matt!" Just as Brian turned around to leave, Megan grabbed Brian and kissed him. She opened one eye to see Jen's reaction, while Matt saw all the pain and embarrassment that ran through Jen. Just before Jen gave into her tears, Matt quickly stood up and sat beside Jen, where he put his arm around her. Megan and Brian stopped kissing, distracted by Matt's change in seating. Matt gently kissed her on the cheek, leaving Brian completely puzzled. "Come on babe! We got a movie to catch!" he said, avoiding any contact with Brian and Megan. Jen remained seated, surprised at what Matt did. Understanding what he was doing, she decided to play along. She grabbed his hand and proceeded to stand up with him. Looking at Brian's jealous face one last time, she deviously smiled at Megan and left the restaurant with Matt. "OMG!" Jen yelled as they left the restaurant. "He TOTALLY bought it!" She had such a big smile on her face. "Did you see him? MAN! That was the best!" she yelled, as her and Matt began to crack up once again. Matt looked at Jen. "She didn't have the right to act like that! Especially with that dumb a$$ Brian!" Matt said. "HEY!" she yelled back. "What?? Jen! Don't tell me you still have feelings for that idiot." he asked, surprised. "Course I do! I just gotta find a way to get him back, that's all!" she said, staring back into the McDonald's window. "He doesn't deserve you Jen. He's a jerk, and that's not the kind of guy you deserve. You deserve a lot more than that." he replied, trying to pry her out of the decision she was about to make. She turned around to face Matt, who looked so concerned. "Look Matt. I understand that you're just looking out for me, but I know what I want. And I want Brian." he stood there in silence, knowing no matter what he did, she'd go along with it. "And thanks for what you did in there!" she said with a smile. "That was very sweet of you!". With that, she gave him a hug. "I owe you Matt! You're the greatest." she said with a big smile on her face, as she turned around and headed home.
