“Laur you okay? You sound funny,” Sara commented. “Nope, I’m fine, Jesse just tried on a really funky looking shirt,” I said as I questioned myself. Sara laughed. “Good job Jess,” she sighed. “And Nik just asked me to tell you to tell Frankie that she has something important to tell him,” Sara said quickly. “Okay sure no problem! I’ll give him the message,” I replied. “Well we gotta go we’re going into a tunnel, we’ll call you soon! Bye!” Sara said as I heard everyone else say goodbye and then she hung up the phone. I put my phone back in my pocket and Jesse, Greg and Chris looked at me and wanted to be informed of what just happened.
“Okay, well what basically just happened is that Nikki has something important that she has to tell Frankie but do you think we should interrupt his conversation with Kelly?” I asked as we all looked them talking again and then laughed. “I dunno,” Greg said. “Maybe we should do it now before Nikki comes,” I said not fully sure of what was really going on. “God, it sounds like we’re planning a murder or something!” Chris joked. “Well hey, you never know, if Nikki walks in on these two there might BE a murder!” I gave Chris a serious look. I walked over to Frankie and Kelly and they were just laughing and having a blast with each other.
“Frank…..Frank…..FRANKIE!” I said as I shook his shoulders. “Yeah?” he said still laughing from his convo with Kel. “Nikki called and said that she has something important to tell you,” I said quickly. “Nikki? Nikki who?” he questioned with a confused look on his face. “Nichole…” Jesse said as he walked up to us. “Ooooh..Nikki…,” he said as a nervous look crossed his face. “Who’s Nikki?” Kelly asked suspiciously. “Oh, just a friend,” Frankie cut her off. Chris, Jesse, Matt, Greg and I exchanged confused glances.
“Guys you have 5 minutes until the show so start going on the stage,” she said as she gave all of us a good-luck hug or high-five for the guys. “Okay, I’ll see you after the show,” Greg said as he gave me a kiss and then went with the rest of the guys on stage. Kelly, Claudia and I started to watch from the side of the stage. Eventually me and Kel ended up watching some songs from the audience point of view. “Don’t come around with all your charms, not gonna let you in my arms, this time will be different you’ll see, cuz I’m gonna take care of me,” Greg sang he started to get into the character, jumping around, etc. He went to go jump on the speaker, but missed and fell. The rest of the guys tried to hold it in but couldn’t, they started busting out laughing in the middle of JENNIFER GOODBYE. “I’m gonna take care of me” Greg laughed to himself as he tried to finish the song. In the middle of HOOKED ON YOU the rest of the girls came in and found Kelly and me. I saw that Frankie spotted Nikki. But instead of paying attention to her, he was focused on Kelly, but Nik couldn’t figure out who he was looking at since there were about 300 more or less screaming girls around the stage.
The show finally ended and all of us waited for the guys backstage with Claudia. We could tell that they were coming down the hallway because we heard random yelling and talking. As soon as the guys came through the doors, Greg came over to me, Chris went over to Courtney, Jesse went over to Sara, Matt went over to Larissa, and Frankie went over to Kelly. Upset, Nichole stormed out of the backstage area but none of us noticed because we were each with our ‘guy.’ “You guys put on an amazing show!” Sara said as Jesse hugged her tightly. “Thanks sweetie,” he said as he gave her a kiss. “Yeah, even though we came in during the middle of the concert!” Cori laughed. “That’s okay, as long as you were here, that’s all that matters,” Chris smiled.
Frank and Kelly were back to talking when Claudia looked around and noticed that Nikki had left. She walked over and tapped Frankie on the shoulder to get his attention. “Yeah?” he leaned back so that he could see her. “Nikki’s not here, you should go look for her,” Claudia whispered into his ear so that no one would look back at them and ask questions. “Okay,” he said with a disappointed look on his face. “What’s wrong?” Kel gave him a confused look. “Nothing, I’ll be right back okay?” he gave her a reassuring smile. She smiled back.
It took him a couple minutes, but Frank finally found Nikki in a crunched position, sitting in the corner of one of the backstage rooms. “What’s wrong?” he asked kneeling down so that he could see her better. “Nothing…” she trailed off. “Nikki?” he repeated. “Fine…everyone went to each other, and I was looking forward to seeing you, but then you walked right past me and to another girl, and I’m your GIRLFRIEND!” she exclaimed, trying not to cry in front of him. “Look, that’s one of Laurie’s friends..I ran into her today when I got lost from everybody else, and I’ve just been hanging out and talking to her. But I also think that maybe we’re just not…” he paused as Nichole gave him her full attention. “well, what I mean is---maybe--we just don’t see each other a lot and” Nikki cut him off. “We’re breaking up..aren’t we?” he looked away. “Laurie and Greg don’t see each other that much more than we do,” her voice started to quiver. “Yes they do..they make more time to see each other. We just done have --- we don’t have what they have, and I still want to be friends with you, just not more than that right now,” he finally finished. Nichole sat there not making a sound.
Frankie could hear Kelly calling his name in the background but tried to ignore it—being that Nikki was really upset. “Thank God I found you,” she said half out of breath. “We’re gonna try and go get some ice-cre-“ she realized that Nik was crying and he was just sitting there like a stuffed animal. “Is this a bad time?” she took a step back. “Kind of..” he started. “YES IT IS! HE BROKE UP WITH ME FOR—FOR YOU!” Nikki screamed as she quickly got up and left. Frank gave Kelly a blank look—confused about what had just happened, but he knew that he had meant everything that he had said to Nikki.
“You did what?” Kelly gave him a confused glance. In the back of her mind…she was excited but wasn’t sure if now was the time to show it… “Look Frankie, I didn’t mean to break up anything that you had with Nikki. I mean, she seems like a sweet person and I don’t want to be the cause or something…well…not good,” she said trying to get his attention. She snapped her fingers in front of his face. “What? Oh-you know what…go with everyone else to get ice-cream and I’ll meet up with you guys in a few okay?” he quickly came back to reality. “Sure,” she said giving a quick smile and left. Frankie went on a frantic search to look for his girfriend…or ex-girlfriend. After a while, he finally found her sitting alone on a bench in a blocked off part of the mall. (Blocked off for the guys) “Nikki…” he slowly sat down next to her. “I don’t want to see you right now—go to your new girlfriend,” she snapped back in a snotty tone. “Look, I came by to make sure that you were okay, I don’t need this attitude from you…I already get enough from Jesse and Greg,” he kind of laughed to himself at the thought that he actually said that. Not to be mean, but he was just trying to lighten up the mood. “Look,” he started as he sat down next to her. “I just don’t think that our relationship is going anywhere. And when I met Kelly today, she was so full of life, and wants to do so many things, and experience things—the same things that I do…and I just feel lately that you don’t want to do that and that you just want to stop and I’m sorry but I can’t stop for you..I’m not going to stop. I just have more of the same interests with her and I can’t stay with you if I would be wondering “what if” if I let her go..I need to take this chance and see where it leads,” he said not realizing how much he actually liked Kelly up until that point.
“I don’t want to hold you back, but in a way I DO want things to stand still,” Nikki’s eyes started to tear again. “But things can’t stand still…why would you want them to?” he questioned. “Frankie…I’m moving,” she looked at the floor. “When?” he replied. “In a month…and the only way that I could stay…is if,” she stopped. “If what?” he kept his attention on her. “Is if you gave me a reason to stay,” she looked back at him. Now it was his turn to turn away. “Well…?” she waited for his answer. He sat there and all he could think of was what a great time that he’d had with Kelly the whole day. “I can’t…” he got up and walked away back to find Kelly and the rest of the group.
