Three more days and school will be out. Late in June, Samantha, her fourteen-year-old brother Jacob, and her parents will take a cruise to the Bahamas for six days for her dad's collage reunion. Then In July, she will fly to New Orleans with her church youth group to attend a youth gathering called "Higher Grounds". To end the summer chain of vacations, she, her mom, and her brother are going to drive up to Atlanta to be with her Aunt who is going to have a baby.
As the rain continued to fall from the darkened skies above, Samantha decided that she shouldn't let the poor weather ruin her day. She left her window, popped a tape into her VCR and watched All My Children, her favorite show of all time, besides 7th Heaven
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~4 weeks later~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Dad! She's taking up all the room!" Blonde hair, blue eyed Jake complained as the family drove from where they lived in Palm Harbor to Cape Cod on the other side of Florida.
"I am not! He's just complaining because he couldn't bring his Play station system." "Stop Arguing. We're half way there, just deal with it." Their father warned, not taking his eyes off the road. The kids settled down, and eventually fell asleep. When they awoke, they were in the parking garage on the Large Fantasy Cruise Line. "We're here? Already?" Jake asked, not wanting to wake up. "Yeah! Let's go find out where our room is!" Their overwhelmed mother exclaimed. Together the four family members went up an elevator to the lobby and got in line to get their room number. The lobby was a comfortable open area that was filled with cream-colored couches and chairs. The light colors matched perfectly with the beige walls with rose borders.
Soon the McGill found out that their suite was on the third level of the 7 level ship. They walked around the boat looking for a way to get to the third level. When they finally got to the third level they looked for their room number. "Here it is." Jake stated as he slid the gold card through its proper slot to unlock the wooden door. As the family walked into their suite, the fresh scent filled the air. The suite was totally furnished with two king size beds, a full kitchen and bar area, and a huge bathroom with a very comfortable looking hot tub inside. The walls were a dark rose color with rose bordering and the comforters that lay on the bed matched with the walls.
"I could live her forever." Samantha thought out loud as she flopped on to the bed she would have to share with her brother. "Look at the wonderful view we have!" the mother said, opening the blinds to reveal nothing but clear blue water. "So, what do we get to do first?" Jake asked eagerly. "Well, we're here on this cruise for your fathers collage reunion, so we have a little bit of a schedule to keep." Jon, the father said, walking over to the marble surfaced table between the two beds. "In ten minutes, we have to be in the ball room on the seventh level?" He asked himself; not sure if that was correct. "Seventh floor? We better leave now or we'll be late. We could barely get to the third level in ten minutes from the first level…I can just imagine how long it will take to get to the seventh level." "Oh, stop your grumbling." Samantha snapped to her annoying brother.
The family left the perfectly clean room and headed their way to the top of the boat. Surprisingly enough, they got to the seventh floor just in time. The seventh floor consisted of an outside pool and deck area, an exercise room, and arcade, and of course, the ballroom. "Geez…I haven't been in here three freakin seconds and I'm already feeling claustrophobic." Samantha stated, glancing around and not being able to see anything except people. "Yeah, well, there's New York for ya." "This isn't New York, Dad. We're going to the Bahamas." Just then a guy’s voice echoed throughout the huge room.
"Testing…testing…" his deep voice said. The loudness of friends reuniting quieted, giving the guy with the microphone permission to continue to say what he was saying. "On behalf of New York State University, I would like to welcome each and every one of you aboard the Fantasy Cruise Line, heading to the Bahamas!" He continued with tons of enthusiasm in his voice. He paused for a moment while the room filled with cheers of excitement. "You'd think these people have never been to Florida before." Samantha said, feeling that this cruise was going to be a drag. "Okay, okay! Calm down people. Now I'm sure that most of you here don't recognize or remember your classmates from college. Have no worry! You will get a chance to meet with each other in just a few short minutes. First, we have to handle your kids." "ohhhhh…Booooo!!!!!!" All the adults moaned and groaned over the fact that their kids were with them. "I understand. Calm down. Lets deal with the kids before we go have some fun!" The guy screamed. "Yeah!!!! Get rid of the kids!!!" Parents from all over yelled. "Oh geez…this guy is a total Lunatic! I'll bet he was geek of the class." Jake replied. "Like you?" His sister joked, laughing at her own stupidity. "Maybe this will be fun!" She thought, hoping to make some new friends. "Moving on." The wacky guy went on, " I would like all of you who have kids ages six through twelve and take them to the pool right now so they can get to know each other and hang out for a while." "All those who have teenagers thirteen through sixteen, send them to the arcade so they can get to know each other and stuff."
The once crowded room began to grow larger and larger as parents led their children to the pool, and teenagers made their way to the arcade. "We'll see you kids later okay?" the parents of Jake and Samantha said to their kids. "Yeah, later." The brother and sister made their way to the arcade, ready as ever to meet the other kids their ages.
