Let's Trade DVDs

Last Updated: December 21, 2002

I am particularly interested in getting boots of bands that I have seen in concert. All ratings are my own--and I stand by them. If you trade with me and you think you've been misled by one of my ratings, I will gladly replace the disk(s) with another show or blanks. Suffice it to say, if both the picture/sound and show rating is A- or above, the show is worth watching. If there is no rating listed, it is probably because I haven't watched that show yet.

I have moved my entire list to a new website at Phishhook. It's a lot easier to manage it from that website. Please go there to view my entire boot list, complete with setlists and notes. Thanks.

A Walk Down Abbey Road

I am mainly interested in trading for other PC-authored DVDs or for high quality tapes that I can author to DVD.

For DVDs that I author myself from video tape, I use the following setup: JVC HR-S8007UM VCR > gold tipped Hisago cables (RCA and S Video) > Canopus ADVC-100 Analog to Digital Video Converter > firewire > computer Computer:

processor: Pentium 4 2.54ghz

RAM: 512 MB DDR 3200 Corsair w/Heatsink CMX

HD: dedicated 120GB 8MB BUFFER ATA 100 7200RPM

video card: VISIONTEK GEFORCE4 TI4600 128MB DDR W/DVI/TVOUT

motherboard: VIA P4PB 400-FL VIA P4X400

Software: Vegas Video 3 and DVDit 2.5 PE.

The rating scheme:

The first letter is for the picture quality. Assuming that the encoding went well, it is highly unlikely that anything sourced from a 2nd gen or below will receive an A. Thus, almost everything rated A is from a master or 1st gen. The one exception is if the lineage is entirely S VHS, in which case a 2nd gen source might get an A rating. In reality, I source very few shows from anything lower than 1st gen.

The second letter is for the performance (show and setlist). Basically, if the band has a really stellar night that is much better than a typical performance, I will rate it A+. A typical day at the office (meaning a good, solid performance) gets an A. If the show is rated A- or below, something in the notes will indicate why it got a low rating. Needless to say, rating the performance is extremely subjective.

Unless otherwise noted, you can assume that the sound quality is very good.

If it only says "DVD" then it is NTSC format. If it says "DVD-PAL" it is in PAL format.

The first thing listed in the notes at the Phishhook site is the person (or trader nickname) who authored the DVD. DVDs I authored myself will say "Silver Stallion Productions."

a "PC" indicates the show was authored on a PC and has a menu and chapter points at the beginning of each track. "SA" indicates it was created with a stand alone burner and it doesn't have a menu or chapter points at the beginning of each track (it may have 5 or 10 minute increment chapter points).
