URUNGUS GRABS VICTORY -- CHOKES TRACY SMOTHERS THE F OUT
In an event asinine yet sublime, GWAR lead singer Oderus Urungus has claimed victory over world-famous wrestler Tracy Smothers in a match held last week at Schoenbaum Amphitheater in Charleston, W. Virginia.
“It wasn't too hard...I just grabbed his neck, and choked. His eyeballs popped out of his skull. End of story,” said the well-hung shock-rocker.
Smothers corpse was quickly re-animated by the necrotic power of Oderus, and the two pledged to continue to wage their war as long as people “gave them money for it”.
“This is huge in Czechoslovakia,” said the still-bleeding Smothers.
There has been no word on the re-match.
Oderus also recently appeared on Fox News’ late-night show, “Red Eye,” as their “Interplanetary Correspondent.” The footage is available here: http://www.foxnews.com/search-results/m/23172690/interplanetary-correspondent.htm#q=oderus.
The world continues to count down to the release of GWAR’s new album, Lust In Space, and the beginning of their 2-year long 25th Anniversary tour, both coming on August 18th!

IMMOLATION - SIGN TO NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS
New York death metal veterans IMMOLATION have signed a worldwide, multi-album contract with Nuclear Blast Records, who will release the band’s upcoming eighth studio album in early 2010.
Commented the band: "We are looking forward to working with Nuclear Blast, a classic label that has become one of the largest driving forces in metal today. We intend to have a new album out for early next year.
Expect the new one to have some of the most dark and intense music we've ever put together!"
Jaap Wagemaker of the A & R Department at Nuclear Blast’s headquarters in Germany, states:
"Nuclear Blast is very proud to announce the signing of IMMOLATION! Few other bands have the ability to embody torment and suffering into their music in the way that IMMOLATION does. By fabricating the essence of agony within their sound, IMMOLATION immerses you into the depths of eternal damnation where you can actually hear them burning within the unquenchable flames. They are the type of band that really put the death back into death metal. We are so stoked to welcome IMMOLATION to the Nuclear family and look forward raising the fires of hell for you once again."
Gerardo Martinez, Label Manager and A & R representative for Nuclear Blast’s USA office, shares the following:
"Without sounding nostalgic, 1991's Dawn Of Possession was definitely the soundtrack of my high school years. Very few bands from that era still make great records and are relevant, and that’s why IMMOLATION fit right in with our roster. We are very proud to have them on board!"
The upcoming album will be the third consecutive release featuring the following line-up:
Ross Dolan - Bass & Vocals
Robert Vigna – Guitars
Bill Taylor – Guitars
Steve Shalaty – Drums

VADER - WAR SHOWS WHAT IS THE WORST AND THE BEST IN US
An avid World War II enthusiast, VADER guitarist/vocalist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek shares his thoughts on "The War" by Kevin Burns and war memorials:
"I heard about this documentary and definitely will possess it soon. I like to watch war movies BUT this is way more interesting… to know more about the real war and the men of war. It is so popular today to judge soldiers and whichever side they represent, but unless we see the death of our comrades or fight the enemy in close combat, we can say nothing about war and we should NEVER judge the soldiers. War shows what is the worst and the best in us, indeed. I’ve seen many graves and have visited many war memorials in Europe; just two World Wars left enough of them around. I'm sure there are graves in the U.S., too, 'cause you have a short but bloody enough history. I’ve visited the [U.S. Army Ordnance] Aberdeen Proving Ground Museum [one of the world's best tank museums, located in Maryland] twice and General Patton Memorial in California. I wished we had enough time to see everything more than just venues in the cities we play in."
Poland’s VADER will be headlining the North American “Decibel Presents: Monsters Of Death Tour” with Decrepit Birth, Warbringer, The Amenta, S.W.W.A.A.T.S., and Augury beginning November 4th in Baltimore, Maryland.
Pre-sale tickets are available online at EnterTheVault.com through July 17th. On July 18th, tickets go on sale through all normal ticketing outlets.
VADER’s new album, Necropolis, will be released August 21, 2009 (Europe) and on September 22, 2009 (North America). Recorded at Hertz Studios in Bialystok, Poland with the Wieslawski Bros., Tue Madsen mixed the album at Antfarm Studios in Denmark. Cover artwork is by Jacek Wisniewski.

MANTIC RITUAL - OFFER TOUR UPDATE - NUMERO UNO
Jeff Potts, guitarist for the Pittsburgh metal band MANTIC RITUAL has sent in the following tour update:
"For those of you who don't hablo español – ‘No Jeff, it's 'habla' - ... Thanks Adam. For those of you who don't habla español, the title of this blog roughly translates to ‘Pro-Pain/Sworn Enemy Tour update number one.’
With that out of the way, let us bring you up to speed. We spent the last ten days in the southeastern part of the U.S. and we just finished the show in Baltimore. We've had a lot of fun so far and made plenty of new friends and fans. Being back in the van, rather than on the bus like on the last tour, gives us plenty of opportunities to get to know the fine folks who come out to our shows and offer us a place to stay for the night (*hint, hint* to the people coming out to the rest of the shows on this tour).
Possibly the most interesting place we've stayed so far was on a military base in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Let's hear it for 3-year-olds that rock out and air-guitar to an entire Iron Maiden DVD - good times.
Just letting everyone know: Much like the tickets at Waynestock, there are still plenty of dates left on this tour. We hope to see you at the shows and party at your house. Remember, in the words of Jim Morrison – ‘If you book us, we will come.’
Until then, ‘Party on, Adam!’ - ‘Party on, Jeff!’”
Executioner, MANTIC RITUAL’s debut album, was named “the best debut album by a band of any musical genre since Metallica’s Kill ‘Em All was released way back in 1983” by MetalSucks.net.
James Minton of U.K.'s Terrorizer Magazine has posted an exclusive track-by-track breakdown of All Shall Fall, the new album from reunited Norwegian black metallers IMMORTAL, due later this year via Nuclear Blast Records.
The album was recorded at Grieghallen and Abyss studios in Norway and Sweden, respectively.
All Shall Fall track list:
01. All Shall Fall
02. The Rise Of Darkness
03. Hordes To War
04. Norden On Fire
05. Arctic Swarm
06. Mount North
07. Unearthly Kingdom
IMMORTAL guitarist Demonaz was interviewed last year by Andrew Haug of Triple J's "The Racket" (formerly "Full Metal Racket").

MELECHESH - OFFER UPDATE ON NEW ALBUM
Ashmedi and Moloch are locked up in Sulphonic recording studio in Rotterdam working on demos for the follow up to Emissaries, the 5th MELECHESH album and first for Nuclear Blast Records.
The band are aiming to keep the album Multi dimensional when it comes to the atmosphere of the songs, one of the new elements will be a couple of songs written and recorded entirely with 12 strings electric guitars.
Ashmedi will then head to Istanbul where he will meet prominent musicians there so as to explore the eastern musical traditions of the city. Commented Ashmedi: "Istanbul is a place where Eastern and Western Music have been perfectly interwoven for decades, and it is a great place to absorb musically and spiritually as Istanbul also has a very fascinating occult side to it as well!"
Tools of the Trade productions also followed Ashmedi with the camera to Hellfest and documented some moments for the upcoming documentary "Ashmedi: A Metal Disporant" as well.

Lords’ Chris Owens gives a real talk interview with CHART Attack!
If you’re thinking Lords guitarist/vocalist Chris Owens isn’t a shy guy, you’ve pretty much hit the nail on the head. Owens keeps his rep as an extrovert in a recent interview with Canadian music Web site CHARTattack.com. One excerpt from the interview could even be the best tough love pep talk ever:
"Not touring because something did or may fuck up has never crossed my mind," he says. "Sure, it gets frustrating some times, but guess what: life isn't fair or easy. And there is more than one reason that this shit is called 'hardcore.' You can adapt to win, you change the things you can and accept the things you can't, then move on. Or you can quit and go listen to Elliott Smith or Lucero while you wallow in self-pity like an annoying little bitch."

The World Reacts To "Father"
Tuesday, June 30, 2009 10:03:51 AM
The response to "Father" has been phenomenal! The first song released on MANOWAR's new EP "Thunder in the Sky" was recorded in 16 languages and included as a Bonus CD. As soon as the fans heard their respective languages, the mail started pouring in!
"Hi, my name is Ayten Karasakal from TURKEY. I am 15 years old. I love your BABA/FATHER song. I love MANOWAR so much. You are the greatest. You'll always carry heavy metal's flag. We want to see you in Turkey! Please, please, please, please, please come to Turkey. Thanks for your Turkish song."
"There is no such words, that can express my feelings when I listen to this song in my national language. It was a great idea to record it in so many languages. I think that you gave a feeling of being special to all fans, if not, you gave it to me. Congratulations to Eric for singing in Polish, because it's quite difficult for foreigners to even speak in it. You did very well, Eric! My woman said that she would like to sing this song to her parents on the day of our wedding. I'm sure I'll do it with her cause I sing in band and it would be great to sing it in two voices!
hehe... Manowar song on my wedding party. Just thinking about it is making me crazy! HAIL TO YOU ALL!!!" Merin
"I want to thank you for amazing show you did Finland at Provinssi rock. I watched a documentation about the song Father on Finnish fan page of Manowar and you talked about the song and how it touches many with its message. The lyrics truly are touching and compelling, I don't know whether you write your songs from your own experiences or not, but the song is really profound. To me this song is important because I'm not that close to my father and the lyrics don't really reflect the relationship between me and my father, but Eric's voice and the sound of this track makes me feel content that I even have a father. I want to say you that your songs touch me deeply and help me carry on."
"Hail from Romania! My name is Mihai Popescu , I am 16 years old. You are the truly kings of metal. This song, Father [TATA], WOW it's... like I don't know how to say, but my grandfather has listened to it and he loves this song, and he doesn't listen to metal. He lost his father in WW2. Anyway... you are the first band doing this...and this is absolutely awsome."
"Father" is available at all festivals on the "Death to Infidels Tour 2009" recorded in German, Italian, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Norwegian, Spanish, French, Greek, Turkish, Polish, Japanese, Croatian, Portuguese and Finnish. LITA FORD Invites The World Into Her 'Wicked Wonderland' - June 29, 2009
Pioneering hard rock queen Lita Ford returns to action this fall with "Wicked Wonderland", a disc brimming with loud and lusty new tunes — songs that might make listeners feel as breathless and dizzy as Alice after a trip down the rabbit hole. But rest assured, you'll never hear anything like this at a tea party!
"Everybody has their own Wicked Wonderland," says Lita. "It's a place where you can do whatever you want and get as freaky as you feel. These songs are my version of that – they're all about my life…well, the parts that happen when the kids are in bed and my husband and I get into the boudoir."
The five-pack of tunes contained on this sampler paint a mighty vivid picture of that room – and the inner workings of Lita's life and libido. Propelled by her distinctive guitar work — a potent blend of blues-based licks, good 'n' greasy slide and punishing post-millennial riffage – they touch down in places that diehard fans will recognize. But there are plenty of expeditions into previously uncharted territory as well, from the gnash and bash of "Scream" to the enveloping "Love".
"This is definitely the heaviest stuff I've ever recorded," she says. I've evolved and matured as a person and so has my music. It's lyrically very real."
In addition to Lita's own evolution, these songs showcase the family-affair nature of how they were made. "Wicked Wonderland" was largely recorded at the island home she and husband Jim Gillette share with their two sons — who actually appear on the disc reciting the pledge of allegiance prior to mom kicking into the loud and proud "Patriotic S.O.B." Gillette's presence is also felt throughout the disc, in both his production work and backing vocals — harmonies that provide a perfect yin to Lita's yang..
"We recorded all the vocals and lead guitars at home with Jim engineering and I wouldn't have been near as comfortable recording with anyone else," says Lita. "Jim and I are soulmates and we're just about joined at the hip. It's almost like the stuff they say about twins — we're always finishing each others sentences and doing the same things musically. There were times when I'd listen back to a song and be like 'which one of us is that anyway?'"
The double-barreled intensity provided by Gillette's presence only serves to highlight Lita's room-filling personality, which resonates loud and clear throughout the disc — not to mention a live show that will cast her in roles as diverse as a naughty bride and a catsuit-draped super-heroine. As ever, when Lita is good, she's good, and when she's bad, well, she's Wicked good!
Lita Ford took part in a press conference on June 5 at the Sweden Rock festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden.
AUGUST BURNS RED: Another New Song Available For Streaming - June 29, 2009
A new AUGUST BURNS RED track entitled "Ocean Of Apathy" is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The song comes off the Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based Christian metalcore quintet's third full-length album, "Constellations", which is scheduled for release on July 14 via Solid State Records.
The visual themes for "Constellations" echo the band's career-long fascination with spirituality and destiny.
"'Constellations' is about directing our attention towards heaven, trusting that God will direct our steps, regardless of our circumstance," says drummer Matt Greiner. "The kites in the artwork represent our own intelligence and innovation. So often we trust our own abilities to guide us through life, but the 'wind' of life will send our kites soaring every which way."
"Constellations" track listing:
01. Thirty And Seven
02. Existence
03. Ocean Of Apathy
04. White Washed
05. Marianas Trench
06. The Escape Artist
07. Indonesia
08. Paradox
09. Meridian
10. Rationalist
11. Meddler
12. Crusades
Finland's HardcoreSounds.Net conducted an interview with AUGUST BURNS RED vocalist Jake Luhrs at this year's edition of the Provinssirock festival, which was held June 12-14 in Seinäjoki, Finland.
AUGUST BURNS RED will undertake a U.S. headlining U.S. tour from July 10 to August 8. Joining the band on the 24-city trek are BLESSTHEFALL, ENTER SHIKARI (July 10-27), ALL SHALL PERISH (July 28-August 8) and IWRESTELEDABEARONCE. The romp across the country will also feature a first for AUGUST BURNS RED — multiple-night stands in the markets of Pomona, California and Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
SLAYER: New Songtitles Revealed - June 29, 2009
Gary Graff of Billboard.com recently conducted an interview with SLAYER guitarist Kerry King about the band's forthcoming album, "World Painted Blood", which is scheduled for release late summer via American Recordings/Columbia Records. Songtititles set to appear on the CD include "Psychopathy Red" (which was released as a limited-edition red vinyl seven-inch single in April for Record Store Day), "Beauty Through Order", "Unit 731", "Playing with Dolls", "Public Display of Dismemberment", "Americon" and the title track.
"I figured, and I'm sure the other guys figured, that if there was another five-year gap this would probably be our last record," King told Billboard.com. "If we're going in five-year gaps, that means two records in 10 years. I think we all didn't want to wait that long. Not that we didn't have ideas — we toured, put out DVDs and box sets and had a lot of other stuff going on."
13 songs were laid down for "World Painted Blood" with producer Greg Fidelman (METALLICA, SLIPKNOT) — six by King, seven by fellow guitarist Jeff Hanneman — 11 of which will appear on the album.
"I like when Jeff writes as much as he did for this record," King said. "When you have one guy doing most of the writing you only get one perspective. A lot of Jeff's stuff has a very punky vibe this time; the stuff I write sounds thrashy but with a hint of punk, and when Jeff writes the stuff is more punk with a hint of thrash. It works together well."
On May 18, QUEENSRŸCHE rocked the troops at Fort Benning, Georgia in between tour dates in support of their new Rhino Records CD, "American Soldier".
The post welcomed QUEENSRŸCHE with "open arms" as they gave all band members and their crew an exhilarating ride in an M1A1 Abrams tank and an M2 Bradley tank.
In addition to that experience, the band dined with the troops earlier in the day and gave a concert performance on Sledgehammer Field, Kelley Hill in the afternoon.
To commemorate the day, the band was given a personalized sledgehammer by the 3HBCT / 3 ID Sledgehammer Brigade (3rd Brigade of the 3rd Infantry Division).
QUEENSRŸCHE will continue to tour throughout the year in support of "American Soldier" and plans to visit and perform for more troops along the way.

As previously reported, HEAVEN & HELL's June 16, 2009 concert at Museumsmeile in Bonn, Germany was professionally filmed by WDR's (German public TV) series "Rockpalast" and will be broadcast the morning of July 13 at 00.25h.

SUFFOCATION's new album, "Blood Oath", is scheduled for release in Europe on July 3 and in North America on July 14 via Nuclear Blast Records. The follow-up to 2006's self-titled record was recorded with Joe Cincotta (who worked on the band's last two releases) and was mixed by Zack Ohren (ALL SHALL PERISH, DECREPIT BIRTH). The cover artwork (see below) was once again brought to life by Jon Zig (DEEDS OF FLESH, DISGORGE, GORGASM).
"Blood Oath" will be available in three formats exclusive to the North American territory. In addition to the standard retail version, there will be a mail-order edition available exclusively through the Nuclear Blast U.S. webstore, and a digital version through iTunes.
SUFFOCATION filmed a video clip for the track "Cataclysmic Purification" on May 31 with director David Brodsky (ARSIS, GOD FORBID, KATAKLYSM, SWASHBUCKLE).
PANTHEON I To Release Digital Single - June 28, 2009
Norwegian extreme metallers PANTHEON I will release a new single, "Serpent Christ", on June 29. The track, taken from the forthcoming album "Worlds I Create", will be available on Candlelight Records as a digital download only. In addition to the title cut, the single will feature the first-ever PANTHEON I song to have been written. "Enter The Pantheon" has so far only been available on the band's first demo and has been completely re-recorded for inclusion on the single.
The five-piece, whose lineup includes members of TYRANN, SARKOM, TROLLFEST, THE ALLSEEING I and DEN SAAKALDTE, as well as former and current members of 1349, recently released a series of promo pics with cellist Live Julianne in the role of a dominatrix.
According to frontman Andre Kvebek, the uncensored version of the photos caused quite a bit of interest. "Having seen the photos that were chosen for publication, I have a sneaking suspicion that the two females involved in the band — Live Julianne and our manager Patricia Thomas, have concocted some kind of plot to knock the band's alpha male (that would be me) off his perch." Somewhat tongue-in-cheek, Kvebe continued, "No red-blooded male could resist rising to the challenge, so I've added my own 'sex god' photo from the recent promo shoot. Now let's see what the fans say!"
The new photo, along with the other uncensored pics, can be found on the band's web site at www.pantheon-i.com.
"Worlds I Create", the third full-length album from PANTHEON I, will be released on Candlelight Records this summer. "I'll Come Back As Fire", a track specially written by the band, is featured in the soundtrack of the latest Chad Ferrin horror flick "Someone's Knocking At The Door", which made its U.S. debut earlier this month. The band is also currently working on a video of "Serpent Christ", which is in the final stages of production.
OBITUARY Drummer: 'Don't Listen To Some Dude At A Record Label Behind A Desk' - June 27, 2009
Shaxul Records recently conducted an interview with drummer Donald Tardy of Florida death metallers OBITUARY. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.
Shaxul: You and Travor [Peres, guitar] have quite epic beards growing lately. Did you both sit down one day and say "let's grow some beards, man?"
Donald Tardy: (Laughs) Not even. In fact, I've never discussed it with him. I just know he's probably got the same mentality as me... Thank god I do music for a living because I hate shaving. It's just always been that way... I'm too lazy to remember to do it every day and then it's just annoying if you don't do it for a week or two... once it gets this long. As long as your girl is cool with it, and my girl is cool with it, it's just way easier to be a red-bearded fool especially when you tour. You gotta carry shaving cream and razors and you're gonna be out there for a month and you're gonna be losing razors... I'd rather just be a hippy. A bearded freak, ya know?
Shaxul: So the song from "Frozen in Time" called "Redneck Stomp" — was that based on some sort of actual event that occurs at a certain time?
Donald Tardy: "Redneck Stomp" was something we wrote when Big Al [guitarist Allen West] was still in the band. He is a "redneck," and when something's really good... We recorded it at practice one day, we were listening back to it. We probably had a couple beers and he literaly started stompin his foot as hard as he can just listening to the song because it's just THAT inspiring. And it's just "Redneck Stomp" — it just makes you wanna tap your foot! Not just tap, but stomp. And that's how it came out.
Shaxul: So you didn't wanna taint the raw "stomping power" of the riffs with any vocals?
Donald Tardy: Yeah, in fact John [Tardy, vocals] said, "I dunno if I wanna do anything with this song vocal-wise." It was just such a cool song and we're like, "You know what? Then don't. Let's do it." And then it was my idea to say, "You know what? We been gone for like seven years and everyone loves John's voice and they're gonna be waiting to hear it. What if we were to put this song first on the album?" And the record label's like, "You can't do that. You guys would be so stupid to do that." And you ask most band members... When some schmuck at a record label tells you that it's a stupid thing to do... the creative musician part of you? Go with it. Those [record label] people are out of their minds. What they think is "black" is "white." Anything they think is stupid is usually smart when it comes to creative music. And that's just exactly the way it was. Roadrunner Records said, "You guys CANNOT do that. That would be suicide." And we said, "You know what? Good. It's gonna be the first song on the album." And all my friends and fans who heard the record were like, "That was cool cause I was waiting and waiting for John's voice but the song was such a cool, groovy song, I didn't mind waiting for John's voice." So that just goes to show: Don't listen to some dude at a record label behind a desk. Go with your musician instinct.
Shaxul: You got these new hunting or "fishing hats" out now. Was that your idea?
Donald Tardy: You talking about the "camo-hat with the orange lettering?"
Shaxul: Yeah.
Donald Tardy: Yeah, that was probably mine and my brother's idea. I love camo-stuff. And we are obviously "Florida boys." You ask Trevor what his favorite thing is to do, it's drop a boat in with his dad and go fishin'. My brother's constantly out on his boat...it's just one of those things. It fits the whole "Florida thing." And hunter's cap with the green and orange — it just made sense. People love it.
Everytime we take it on tour that hat sells like crazy.
Shaxul: You ever encounter any gators?
Donald Tardy: In Florida you can go to any lake on any given evening and you'll see alligators everywhere. I live next to the university of South Florida and there's a huge golf course on that campus. If you take a flashlight and look at the lakes on that golf course [at night], you'll see TONS of alligators and their eyes because alligator's eyes are like frog eyes when you shine a light on them at night. You see little red eyes. They're everywhere. Where I live, they are in every river and every lake that you would think about jumping in.
Shaxul: Any songs inspired by gators?
Donald Tardy: [Surprised] No, I don't think we do!
There's been so many songs about gators with the Florida bands that I grew up listening to that you know... MOLLY HATCHET did it. That was the deal. A band called STRANGER did it back in the '80s here in Florida. We've never really conquered trying to take on an alligator song.
Shaxul: I always wanted to know, what the hell is "Stinkapuss" anyways?
Donald Tardy: Good question, man! I honestly don't know. I don't know where that came from or why. I think there was a couple different [bands called] INCUBUS back in the day because there was... two Florida bands. One of them was the old drummer for MORBID ANGEL (Mike Browning). His band was called INCUBUS and they were awesome. There was another band called INCUBUS and I think they sucked and I think that might be where it came from. We called it "stinky puss."
Shaxul: Being from San Francisco, I was just wondering if you had any sort of interesting memories from playing in the Bay Area.
Donald Tardy: Yeah, absolutely. Playing the Stone and uh... First thing we did as band in 1989, we opened for SACRED REICH. Our first show is San Francisco so we had to get in a van with seven people and and we had to drive for three or four days across the United States. And we arrived the day of the show and had to get out of the van from sitting down for three days and go out and play a show. And we went to do a soundcheck and found out that two of the guys from METALLICA were gonna be there tonight. And, of course, never played a show before outside of Florida and just sat in a van and got completely out of shape and had to perform in front of, I think it was Lars [Ulrich] and [Jason] Newsted or something. So, that's what I remember about San Francisco. And the SADUS boys, of course, I think they're from Oakland but...they always seem to come out to our San Francisco shows also.
Nebula Gets Psyched For August Tour
Jun 29, 2009
Story by: Michael Schwab
Psychedelic rock gods Nebula have just announced a summer tour to follow up the release of their newest album, Heavy Psych. The trio is famous for their take on classic stoner jams from the likes of Cream and Mudhoney. Heavy Psych, which due for a July 7 release via Tee Pee, lives up to its name as a rollercoaster ride of mindfucking rock 'n' roll, complete with wah wah pedals and head-banging riffs.
Nebula was started in 1997 by frontman Eddie Glass, who played guitar with alt-rock veterans Fu Manchu.
The band has gone through several lineup changes since then, including five different bassists and two drummers. Their latest change was in 2007 when they were joined by drummer Rob Oswald, who will play with them on tour for the first time this summer. Candiria Is 'Toying With The Insanities'

Story by: Michael Schwab
Are they a metal band? A hip-hop group? Since their inception in 1992, Brooklyn-based Candiria has been drawing the two genres closer together with their experimental combination of aggressive music. The group has just announced the release of a set of remixes and rarities, titled Toying With The Insanities. The first two volumes will be released digitally via iTunes, Amazon and other digital retailers on September 9, along with limited pressings of CDs and LPs. While it's not likely that they will be performing live anytime soon (half of the band has departed its ranks due to creative differences), remaining members Carley Coma (vocals) and John Lamacchia (guitar) report that they may continue their endeavors as a rhythm section-less electronica project.

NEW SINCE OCTOBER TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED
SINGER BEN GRAHAM CHECKS IN FROM THE ROAD
Florida rockers SINCE OCTOBER have announced several additional dates to their summer tour, including a West Coast run with Trapt PLUS three huge festivals where they’ll be playing alongside such huge bands as Judas Priest, 3 Doors Down, Shinedown and more!
SINCE OCTOBER recently wrapped up a string of dates with RED, which included some of their first East Coast shows ever!
Singer Ben Graham checked in from the road with an update: “We’ve been on this tour for about 8 weeks now, so the show is nice and tight, and we’re really excited about that. We’re also psyched that on these upcoming Trapt dates, we’ll be playing markets we’ve never played: the House of Blues in Las Vegas and the Troubadour in Los Angeles will be awesome! And to be able to play with such legendary bands as Judas Priest and Whitesnake is absolutely amazing to us. The big festival shows will be great because there will be over 20,000 people there, and we’re definitely ready to take advantage of that opportunity.
“Our single is doing great right now, and we’re stoked on that too. ‘Guilty’ is up to #21 this week, which is the highest we’ve ever been. We’re one stop from the Top 20, and we’re really pushing for it. Because of the song’s success, we had a lot of people come out to see us in the Northeast, which is great because we’ve never played up there before. It’s been a really great time for us, and we can’t complain.”
Stay tuned for more on upcoming SINCE OCTOBER shows!

Metal Blade Records Press Quotes 06/29/2009
Monday, June 29, 2009 6:03:49 AM
GOATWHORE Carving Out The Eyes Of God
“GOATWHORE have gone above expectations this time around…destined to be their version of The Blackening by MACHINE HEAD for their genre as they have perfected their art and this album will turn up in many ‘Best Of' lists for 2009!” perfect 10/10, SMNnews.com
“The 10 track could make even the most stubborn Nordic black metal fans squirm, as the stabbing and slashing guitars and Ben Falgoust's dark sermon growling never have sounded better.” The Daily News McKeesport
“Carving Out The Eyes Of God is what a modern metal album should sound like; slightly raw, extremely heavy, a bit catchy and possesses the must-have longevity that makes you listen to it for days on end without tiring of it. Too many bands and albums are easily forgettable these days. You won't forget this album.” HookInMouth.net
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GOD DETHRONED Passiondale
“After 18 years and eight albums, Dutch death metallers God Dethroned have managed to piece together their masterwork.” Bravewords.com
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER Majesty
“Well, Metal Blade has done it again. Not only have they succeeded in releasing one of the best and most comprehensive music DVD's ever in As I Lay Dying's ‘This Is Who We Are,' but they might even be able to rival it with another release they have in the Black Dahlia Murder's ‘Majesty…Disc one sets them up and disc two knocks them down, it is as simple as that. ‘Majesty' is truly all it is cracked up to be, and then some. Grade: A'” PhiladelphiaAtHome.com

MOLOTOV SOLUTION The Harbinger
“…anti-establishment symphony for destruction and rebellion.” BringOnMixedReviews.com
“…a punishing but intelligent and impressive display of serious deathcore that's not concerned with scenes, looks or trends” TeethOfTheDivine.com
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ERYN NON DAE. Hydra Lernaia
"harsh, oppressive, and complex songs. Like when Neurosis or Meshuggah are at their most potent and pissed-off…bracingly powerful."
"This is the rare album where mood is more important than songs, and dissonance, halting rhythms, and raw-throated, monotone vocals create truly bleak soundscapes." 4.5/5 stars, Revolver Magazine
“…each composition is different than the one preceding it, each tune has many different parts, and the dynamics and textural shifts are dazzling.”
“Hydra Lernaïa is perhaps the metal record to beat in 2009. It sounds like nothing else out there, and creates a niche all its own. But any real fan of black metal, death metal, or even progressive metal who can stand dissonance will find it a prize.” Allmusic.com
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DARKNESS DYNAMITE The Astonishing Fury Of Mankind
“the way the band incorporates its influences makes for quite an engaging listening session. They honestly are a culmination of their individual influences, and the music reflects it in a visceral, throat-slicing manner.” Examiner.com

LAZARUS A.D. The Onslaught
“Holy hell fire – this Kenosha Wisconsin four piece not only won the jaded Hollywood crowd over with great ease, but had some huge circle pits going inside the large club.” ConcertConfessions.com

AS I LAY DYING This Is Who We Are DVD
“Not only is As I Lay Dying one of the top two, if not the top, American metal band making music today (alongside Lamb of God) as evidenced by their musical body of work to date, but for their first foray into DVD land, the band hit a towering, tape measure home run…Honestly, if you ever had a question about As I Lay Dying, no matter how big or small, ‘This Is Who We Are' will answer it and then some. Just when you thought these guys couldn't get any better, they had to go and release this DVD. If you were thinking they just released great records, think again, they also release amazing DVDs.

CLOSURE IN MOSCOW - "SWEET#HART" #1 SINGLE ON AUSTRALIA INDIE CHARTS

CLOSURE IN MOSCOW
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA'S NEWEST EXPORT HEAD OUT
ON FIRST FULL US TOUR NEXT MONTH
SINGLE "SWEET#HART" IS #1 ON
AUSTRALIAN INDEPENDENT RADIO CHARTS
SET JULY 29TH RELEASE DATE FOR JAPAN
JUN 25 - With the start of their first full US tour approaching, Closure In Moscow have just learned news of their first single, "Sweet#hart" currently positioned at #1 on the Australian Independent Records (AIR) Radio charts! "Sweet#hart" was also the #1 most played track on JJJ last week in their home turf of Australia. Closure In Moscow's First Temple debuted at #5 on the AIR charts; no small feat for the young band's first full-length. In the US, the praise is echoed with Alternative Press hailing "Calling this young Australian quintet 'talented' is a severe understatement, considering First Temple, Closure In Moscow's Equal Vision (and Northern Hemisphere) debut is jam-packed with prog verbosity," in their review of the album.
As Closure In Moscow continues their international streak, First Temple has been set for a July 29th release in Japan. The Japanese version of the album features an acoustic adaptation of "Sweet#hart" and remix of "I'm A Ghost Of Twilight" by Brian Southall (The Receiving End Of Sirens, Boys Night Out).

BEHEMOTH posts first single off of Evangelion
BEHEMOTH, who have set Evangelion as the title of the band's ninth hell-breaking opus, have just posted a brand new track and the first single off the band's August release on their official MySpace page. Head over to www.MySpace.com/Behemoth now to listen to the track "Ov Fire and the Void" off Evangelion and while you're there be sure to check out video footage of the band during the recording process as well as upcoming tour dates.
Evangelion was recorded in the band's hometown at Radio Gdansk studio with longtime sound engineer Malta, the Wieslawscy Brothers, and Daniel Bergstrand (drum engineering) in the producers' chairs.
Evangelion was mixed in Miloco Studios by Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Slipknot, Carcass, Napalm Death) and will be unleashed in the US on August 11th via Metal Blade Records and in Europe on August 9th via Nuclear blast.
In support of the band's 9th full-length studio album, Evangelion, BEHEMOTH will be touring on what is sure to be this summer's largest and most bone crushing metal festival; The Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival with mighty Slayer and Marilyn Manson as co-headliners. BEHEMOTH will be conquering the Hot Topic stage alongside label mates Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Job for a Cowboy and Whitechapel, on over 25 dates this summer so make sure to catch the masters of blackened death metal live when they come to a city near you.
Metal Blade Records announces the signing of Aeternam!
Canada's Aeternam has joined the Metal Blade roster!
Formed in 2007 in Quebec City, Aeternam has been preparing to unleash their very own brand of epic death metal upon the world. Combining classic death metal songwriting with epic melodic soloing and middle-eastern influences, Aeternam has fine-tuned its craft and made it into a perfect blend of brutality and melody. Their first studio release, Disciples of the Unseen, was produced by mastermind JeF Fortin (Neuraxis, The Last Felony). The album contains 10 tracks of pure intensity, crushing riffs, pounding bass lines and brutal growls paving the way for epic solos, acoustic melodies, ambient keyboards and large vocal harmonies. Fans of Behemoth, Nile and Melechesh will most certainly find something about this band to enjoy.
Aeternam comments: "We are very excited and proud to see our debut album come out on Metal Blade and what could be more fitting for us to be label mates with such bands as Behemoth and Cannibal Corpse. A lot of inspiration and work went into creating Disciples of the Unseen and we cannot wait to present it to the worldwide metal scene. We'll soon be on the road to promote the album and we can't wait to bring this monster to the stage."
“This is one of those rare bands that was an absolute no brainer for us to bring on board and has everyone at Metal Blade unanimously excited about the possibilities. The sheer amount of talent and creativity inherent in this band is refreshing. We look forward to working together on this and many future albums!” Metal Blade Records
Aeternam is:
Achraf Loudiy - Vocals & Guitar
Alex Loignon - Guitar
Jonas Lapointe - Bass & Vocals
Samuel Dubois - Keyboards
Antoine Guertin - Drums

Lizzy Borden rocks the Kobetasonik Festival in Spain with last minute performance!
Lizzy Borden received a call last week to see if they would be able to play a festival in Spain with Motley Crue, Anthrax, Buckcherry and more! The band somehow made it happen! Read Lizzy Borden's post festival report below.
Lizzy Borden's post festival report:
“Wednesday morning I got a call asking if we wanted to play the Kobetasonik festival in Bilbao Spain On Saturday. I wasn't sure that we could do the show because my passport just expired the day before. I spent the whole day at the federal building on Thursday not knowing if they would renew my passport or not, they just kept saying we will do our best. I finally got it in my hands at 5:00 that night; we flew out for Spain the next morning. We arrived at the festival at around 4:00 in the afternoon on Saturday scheduled to play at 8:15 that night, only one problem, the airline lost all of our luggage. We finally tracked it down and they said they were flying it in and it would all be there in time for the show.
While we franticly waited for our luggage we watched Buckcherry, Papa Roach, and Anthrax - all really great shows!
With only minutes to spare our gear finally arrived. A quick line check, smear on some stage make-up and without any rehearsal at all hit the stage and belted out 65 minutes of American metal the Lizzy Borden way.
We all had a great time on stage, the audience in Bilbao Spain was screaming loud all the way through and in the end turned out to be a great surprise show for us and them. We met a lot of new friends backstage and with all of the bands being in the same building it turned out to be a really cool party. And at some point I think we dove into the Jagermeister (maybe a little too much) and wandered out in the audience to watch Motley cure. After a few minutes we got recognized and had a BIG party in the crowd with a lot of our new friends from Bilbao.
I want to thank everyone at the festival for treating us so well…we can't wait to come back, hopefully next time more than 2 days notice. Live forever, Lizzy Borden”
Lizzy Borden's latest album, Appointment With Death, is available now. You can see the video for Under Your Skin on mtv.com.
New song, “The River Under”, from celebrated San Diego prog rockers, Astra, posted online
San Diego based progressive rock band ASTRA has completed work on its hotly-anticipated debut album, entitled The Weirding. The record hits stores in North America today via Rise Above Records.
Originally formed in 2001 as SILVER SUNSHINE, ASTRA dubs its forward-thinking sound “freaked out prog rock”. As ambitious a unit as you will find, the quintet (Richard Vaughan [guitar, mellotron, echoplex, vocals], Conor Riley [mellotron, arp odyssey synth, organ, guitar, vocals], Stuart Sclater [bass], David Hurley [drums, percussion, flute, various noisemakers] and Brian Ellis [guitar, moog, vocals]) will unveil The Weirding as the musical introduction to its self-proclaimed sound. An eight song ‘Progressive Rock Concept Album', the record is intricate and thoughtful in both concept and execution yet neither forced nor pretentious. Beautifully surreal cover art by Arik Roper (High On Fire, SUNN O))), Boris) furthers the record's ever-evolving mood.
From the Mellotron-heavy title track to the ethereal strains of Broken Glass to the seventeen minute instrumental leviathan Ouroboros and through to album closer Beyond to Slight the Maze (“for the contemplation of eternal solitude”), ASTRA's The Weirding invokes a celestial ocean of wah wah waves crashing against a never ending shore of wonderment.
ASTRA's arsenal of sunward-reaching sonic harmonies, spiraling synth-laden melodies and art-rock uplift calls for comparisons to Amon Düül II, Can, Guru Guru, Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd and Yes. Already making a name for itself on the West Coast, ASTRA has shared the stage with such like-minded and diverse acts as Dungen, Earthless, Bigelf, Saint Etienne, The Black Keys and DMBQ.
The Weirding, like all great concept albums is initially rather vague in it's er, concept. As band founder Richard Vaughn explains; “The main themes are death, introspection and contemplating what lies beyond. It's about pondering the rapidly deteriorating state of the world today and trying to find an escape.”
The track listing for ASTRA's The Weirding is as follows:
1.) The Rising of the Black Sun (5:44)
2.) The Weirding (15:27)
3.) Silent Sleep (10:41)
4.) The River Under (8:41)
5.) Ouroborous (17:23)
6.) Broken Glass (3:45)
7.) The Dawning of Ophiuchus (5:29)
8.) Beyond to Slight the Maze (11:36)
“the missing link between Rubber Soul and Radiohead.” San Diego Reader
"soon-to-be-legendary…Are you ready for the SWOPP (Second Wave Of Psychedelic Prog)?" Classic Rock
"The Weirding' is a predominantly a series of melancholy, end-of-days numbers that have as much in common with Jethro Tull and 60s folk as they do Yes, King Crimson, and the Book of Revelations…unadulterated rock goodness" StonerRock.com
"During the late '90s, it seemed like prog rock had finally achieved extinction. But fast forward ten years later and the genre was thriving once more -- as evidenced by the arrival of such groups as ASTRA and their 2009 full-length debut, ‘The Weirding' (which includes some very Roger Dean-inspired cover artwork).
Unlike many other modern-day prog rock revivalists, ASTRA recall a day when the genre was more about creating sweeping mood shifts than mere mind-numbing instrumental acrobatics." AllMusic.com
Khann begins pre-production for sophomore BMA release!
Khann guitarist/vocalist, Andrew LaCour reveals that the band's long absence can be attributed to the fact that they have begun writing and pre-production for what will be their sophomore release with Black Market Activities. “Khann started pre-production for three new songs, drums are tracked.” Adding an intriguing twist, Andrew also announced the addition of a noise/auxiliary instrumentalist and a filmmaker to the band, guaranteeing that the new record will be anything but banal.
In September, Khann will break their self-imposed vow of silence to hit the road with Dark Castle, the culmination of this mini-tour being a rumored and still nameless festival in Little Rock, AR being organized by Rwake vocalist, C.T. Other confirmed acts include Zoroaster, Keelhaul, US Christmas and more.
For those of you who have been waiting patiently for the release of Khann's Anodynic Spheres video: you'll have to wait a little bit longer. After what LaCour calls “some issues” the video is in the final editing stages and will be ready for release soon.
Ed Gein's Aaron Jenkins recounts the events leading to his Shaun Luu Horror Fest bangover!
Aaron Jenkins, Ed Gein bassist/vocalist nearly recovered from his metal induced stupor, took a moment to recap the band's show in a long time at last weekend's Shaun Luu Horror Fest and Ed Gein's plans for the immediate future:
“I have the worst bangover ever. This weekend was amazing from start to finish. I think I speak for all of us in Ed Gein when I say it's good to be back! I had an absolute blast despite having a wicked sore throat for a few days and having my voice pretty much go to hell in the first song. Thank you all for the warm welcome back. It was like playing our first show... We were all nervous as hell. But it was also like riding a bike. We're planning to record an EP of songs we wrote two years ago before we decided to take some time off. I'm not exactly sure when we'll be getting in the studio. Jocko at More Sound is always booked way ahead so it'll probably be sometime this fall or early winter. After that we plan to write some more new songs and maybe play a few shows around our area. We have no plans to tour for quite some time, if at all... We don't even have a van at this point. I'll keep everyone updated on things as they come along.
Thanks to anyone who still cares what we're up to!”

SHADOWS FALL NEW ALBUM INFORMATION UNLEASHED ON THE MASSES + COVER ART REVEALED
Wednesday, June 24, 2009 3:30:04 PM
For Immediate Release
June 24, 2009
SHADOWS FALL TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM – “RETRIBUTION” – ON SELF-CREATED LABEL, EVERBLACK INDUSTRIES
NEW ALBUM ART, TRACK LISTING REVEALED
SHADOWS FALL are proud to announce Retribution as the title of their fifth full-length album, which is set for a September 15 street date. The album, a follow-up to 2007’s critically acclaimed Threads of Life, will be released on the band’s own label, Everblack Industries, which was created in conjunction with Warner Music Group’s ILG, Ferret Music, and ChannelZERO Entertainment. For more information on Everblack Industries, please visit www.everblackindustries.com. The blistering new album was produced by Zeuss (Hatebreed, Municipal Waste), with vocal production by Elvis Baskette (Incubus, Alter Bridge).
Singer Brian Fair commented on the band’s venture: “We learned everything from the ground up. We’ve gone through the independent metal world to the major label world, and have come to realize that, given the way things are now, it’s all about the band re-taking control of everything: music, business, ownership, publishing. Everything.”
Fans can now sign up for the SHADOWS FALL mailing list and street team at http://www.reverbnation.com/shadowsfall1. Exclusive downloads are now available for all members!
The New England melodic thrashers called on design company Sons of Nero (Unearth, Every Time I Die, Bring Me The Horizon) for Retribution’s cover art.
Retribution track list:
The Path to Imminent Ruin
My Demise
Still I Rise
War
King Of Nothing
The Taste Of Fear
Embrace Annihilation
Picture Perfect
A Public Execution
Dead And Gone
“With each album we’ve gotten a little more confidence to really let all of our influences show,” Fair added. “We’re unapologetic about the old-school metal and the 80s influence, as well as the thrash and the melodic death metal. There’s really no holding back when it comes to our songwriting. Once the floodgates open, we go all the way.”
The result is Retribution - a collection of songs that showcase the versatility and vision of this band that only seems to get better over time.

VADER ANNOUNCES NORTH AMERICAN TOUR WITH...
Polish deathsters VADER will team up with California’s DECREPIT BIRTH, L.A.’s Warbringer, The Amenta from Australia, S.W.W.A.A.T.S. from Florida, and Montreal, Canada’s AUGURY for a 38-show “Decibel Presents: Monsters Of Death Tour” through North America beginning November 4th in Baltimore, Maryland.
For complete tour dates, please visit VADER's MySpace Page.
Pre-sale tickets for the Monsters Of Death Tour are available online at EnterTheVault.com through July 17th. On July 18th, tickets go on sale through all normal ticketing outlets.
VADER guitarist/vocalist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek shares his thoughts on the upcoming trek:
“Metal always was and still needs to be a brotherhood.
All we were doing [in the past] to support the music and the scene was cooperating with other bands.
Natural selection decides if a band is really dedicated or if it's just an episode. Not much has changed today, actually.
Even if the so-called ‘metal music business’ changed some rules, there will still be those who play with passion and those who want success. It is not us who wanna be ‘a judge,’ so we always try to tour with bands we have a good relationship with. A good time and a friendly atmosphere is important for all of us.
I only hope that everybody will enjoy the tour and will come away with good lessons from it... like we in VADER always do.
Deciding on a set list is always a problem. With every new album, the problem grows bigger and bigger. I decide the set list and I'm always confused. Usually, I try to mix some of old VADER hits with new stuff.
The set might be different and depends on the conditions. For the upcoming tour through the USA and Canada, we're gonna make the set slightly different from our shows in Poland and Western Europe.
I also asked our fans about their favorite VADER songs. It may help me make a choice. I wish we could play all of our new songs, but it is not possible. I think we'll do 5 pieces from Necropolis and mix them in with some old VADER. The veterans and also the new ‘in-VADERs’ will find something interesting for sure! After the maniacs learn the new album better, we can always add more songs.”
Necropolis will be released in two formats: a regular jewel-case (11 tracks only) and a limited edition digi-pak with the following bonus tracks + bonus DVD:
01. Devilizer
02. Rise Of The Undead
03. Never Say My Name
04. Blast
05. The Seal
06. Dark Heart
07. Impure
08. Summoning The Futura
09. Anger
10. We Are Horde
11. When The Sun Drowns In Dark

SWASHBUCKLE - VIDEO GAME, E-CARD and ALBUM TRAILER: PART 2
The album is scheduled for release on July 24, 2009 (Europe) and August 11, 2009 (North America) via Nuclear Blast Records.
SWASHBUCKLE has been added to this year's Paganfest Europe tour alongside KORPIKLAANI, UNLEASHED, ALESTORM, DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER and EX DEO, after recently completing the North American edition of Paganfest. The trek kicks off on September 11 in Munich, Germany and concludes on October 3 in Linz, Austria.
Commented the band: "Arrg, legendary metal music video director David Brodsky (KATAKLYSM, ARSIS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER) by chance caught us pirates in the act of looting and pillaging a fine vessel along the seas of the Atlantic. With nary a chance of escape, David bartered passage to dry land in exchange for rendering a motion picture tale of our nautical pilferings."
EXODUS FEATURED IN JOHNNY ORLANDO VIDEO PODCAST
"The world's leading metal journalist," Johnny Orlando Jr., has released his first roundtable interview featuring EXODUS and KREATOR. The discussion is available as part of this week's episode of the UVTV Podcast, which also features promotional and and live videos of EXODUS and KREATOR.

EX DEO - ANNOUNCE TOURING BASSIST FOR PAGANFEST EUROPE
EX DEO’s Maurizio Iacono has issued the following update regarding the upcoming PaganFest Europe tour:
“EX DEO have enlisted bassist Dano Apekian from Montreal, Quebec’s melodic death metal outfit ASHES OF EDEN. We knew that Francois Mongrain (MARTYR) couldn’t make it on some tours with EX DEO even before we asked him to perform on the album...we needed a person that could be there when called upon for touring. Dano has good stage experience and will serve Rome's conquest proudly!
I would also like to also dismiss any claim that EX DEO is part of any Christian based band or beliefs.
These are false allegations of people who have obviously not educated themselves with history. Rome was part of Polytheism beliefs, in other words, it was pagan, the belief in multiple gods, not Christianity until Emperor Constantine declared the Christian religion legal in Rome. That was the biggest mistake they ever made, it was the start of the fall of Rome and its ideals of free thinking, and for those who dismiss these things as something of the 'past,' well let me tell you that you live in the results of those past events and your way of thinking is based on it, and all the freedoms you take for granted. HAIL ROME!"
EX DEO unleashed their monster of a debut album, Romulus, to the world on June 19, 2009 (Europe) and will release it on June 30, 2009 (North America) via Nuclear Blast Records.
Nergal (BEHEMOTH), Karl Sanders (NILE) and Obsidian C (KEEP OF KALESSIN) will make special guest appearances on, Romulus.
Nergal will appear in the song "Storm The Gates Of Alesia," singing a very famous Caesar quote; Sanders laid down a ripping solo in the song "The Final War (The Battle Of Actium)" which deals with Antony and Cleopatra's defiance of Octivian in Egypt, and Obsidian C lends a majestic and melodic solo to the track "Cruor Nostri Abbas."
Fans can start placing their orders for the T-SHIRT + CD package deal available exclusively at the Nuclear Blast America Web Shop only while supplies last!
EX DEO will make its live debut this September/October on the special edition of Europe's biggest pagan/folk metal tour, Paganfest (www.myspace.com/paganfest).
Co-headlining throughout will be Finland's KORPIKLAANI and Germany's DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER. Additional support will come from Sweden's UNLEASHED, United Kingdom's ALESTORM and U.S.A's SWASHBUCKLE. Special appearances will be made by Finland's MOONSORROW and Norway's EINHERJER on select dates.
