Robert Wilson 1807-1874 ?

This photo was found amongst other WILSON memorabilia. It is believed to be Robert WILSON, farmer of Wilby, nr Denham by Eye, Suffolk, England.

Robert WILSON was christened at Sth Elmham Church, Suffolk, England in 1807. He was the only son of Robert WILSON and Rachel PIPE, and had three sisters; Mariah (1805), Eliza (1809) and Catherine (1811).

Robert WILSON married Rebecca BAYLES in 1833 at the Hoxne Church, Suffolk, England. Rebecca was the first child of Thomas BAYLES & Rebecca MOORE who owned Thorpe Hall.

Robert Wilson was described as a farmer and "gentleman".

Robert & Hannah Wilson

Robert WILSON was christened at Denham by Eye, Suffolk, England in 1836. He married Hannah Louisa ALBROW in 1862 at Bethnal Green in London, England. Hannah was the daughter of Michael & Martha ALBROW, and was christened in Lowestoft, Suffolk, in 1838.

Robert and Hannah emigrated to Lyttleton, New Zealand aboard the "Lady Jocelyn" in 1875. They settled in a sod hut in Waimate, Sth Canterbury, which was in those days surrounded by native bush and occupied by both Maori and settlers. He gained employment in Oamaru, but shifted to a farm at Marshlands on the "outskirts" of Christchurch about 1900.

Robert worked in department stores and drapery businesses. He also was a council employee and farmer. He died in Christchurch, N.Z. in 1913, while Hannah lived with her offspring in Christchurch and "Coombe Run", near Waimate, until she died in 1929.

Robert & Hannah had nine childen: Catherine Jane 1864-1936 (m Harry Saunders), Florence Ellen 1865-1947 (m Tom Dugdale), Rose 1867-1950 (m Fred Aslin), Frank Yaxley 1869-1958 (m Lou Bray), Albert Edward 1871-1956 (m Evelyn Wheatley), Clara 1873-1938 (m Walter Cottrell), Frederick Denham 1875-1945 (m Emily Martin), Victor Roland 1877-1964 (m Lizzie Wilce), and Olive Ethel 1882-1952 (m Fred Keen).
They had 28 grandchildren.
