ROCK N ROLL EXPERIENCE - Rest Among Ruins 8/3/07

Rest Among Ruin’s set was cut short for some reason, & although the band didn’t get to play the full time they were originally allotted, the band kicked ass for their entire set, no matter how much it was shortened by! It’s interesting for me, because I’ve seen these guys play several times now, & the first time I saw them, it was a very small club with no stage, no lights, & it was just a bare bones show that left little to the imagination, & to be totally honest with you, Rest Among Ruins truly shine when they are on a larger stage that has decent sound & lights!

Jeff had a string break in mid song & had to change guitars, & this was actually the first time I’d ever seen him play a Fender Strat onstage, & during the guitar change, the band didn’t miss a beat, the show continued, & they made their set rock even harder to fill the gap. The bands music is a mix of modern metal & classic metal & the band reminds me of a mix of Killswitch Engage, Life of Agony, & there’s some elements of hardcore as well.

Mike’s vocals are what really drive’s the bands live show home...his vocals are a mix of strong aggro & even stronger clean tones, & the rhythm section definitely anchor the bands sound strongly, & I might add, not that it’s important, but 2 member’s of the band wore flip flops or sandles (Jeff & Jason!) & it’s always interesting to me to hang with the guys before or after the show, because they play really heavy music, but they are the most down to earth dude’s you’ll ever meet! The Rest Among Ruins fan base is pretty big for a local band, & everytime I see them it gets larger & larger, & they recently signed a deal with an indie label, so be on the look out for these guys...I see big things for them in the near future!
