LA GUNS

6/23/07

Ottobar

I'll admit it, LA Guns were alays one of the best hair bands from that era..in my opinion..they were glam, sleaze, sex, & just alot of dirty, dirty fun! The current band features Phil Lewis on vocals & Steve Riley on drums as the only original members, & you've got former Roxx Gang guitarist Stacey Blades on lead guitar replacing Tracii Guns. I'll admit it, I didn't wanna see Tracii Guns-less LA Guns..I felt like Tracii was the core of the band & he was a must have, but to be honest with you, Stacey Blades fills the vacant boots of Tracii damn well! Phil Lewis sounds as good live as he ever did, & the show opened with "Slap in the Face" which was followed by "Wheels of FIre" which just kicked total ass!

There was about 150 people total at this show & although it was a small crowd, the band Ripped it up! They played all the classics, along with a few new songs from the bands last 2 records, & one of the special songs of the night was "Kiss My Love Goodbye" because Phil made a comment that they don't play that one live that much anymore, & Stacey played the hell outta that song! Before "The Ballad of Jane" started off, Phil commented that it was a song that "Alot of your Mom's probably listened to while they were getting dressed to see them play many years ago." & when he said that I thought, wow, this song still sounds fresh & amazing, but it is actually old & considered classic rock by today's standards! For that song & "Rip & Tear" Stacey switched from his Gibson, to a Fender Strat to get that certain guitar tone that only a Strat can get, & although the set list contained "No Mercy", it was not played this night as an encore, & I asked Stacey later that night why they didn't play it & he commented that they used to open with that song everynight & that they kinda got tired of it, which I totally understand. Overall, the band kicked ass & it was a great night for rock n roll!
