ROCK N ROLL EXPERIENCE!

Let me be the first to say, Welcome to 2009 & thx for checking out the Jan / Feb 2009 Rock N Roll Experience page!

2008 was a freakin' blast...I wanna start off by just thanking everyone...all the readers, all the bands, all the publicists, everyone who made Rock N Roll Experience roll like the finely tuned machine that it is..thank you all for making 2008 one of the best years EVER for Rock N Roll Experience!

I have a rough outline of what we have tentatively scheduled for the upcoming weeks & all I can say is, hold on tight, because we've got some amazing sh*t coming your way & some super cool interviews with some huge rock stars....I never tell about my "plans" because I always feel like they jinx things, BUT, if all works out, there's some huge stuff coming to Rock N Roll Experience very soon!

I need to address the matter of our Avenged Sevenfold - "coke" incident show that happened here in Maryland on 12/9/08....we received hundreds of emails...most were positive, some were negative & I did my best to answer every single email...what I realized is, the fans of A7X are very guarded with their favorite band & they had a hard time swallowing the fact that their "hero" could do something so stupid, but it was a fact, the band NEVER addressed or disputed my story & they DID see it, so hopefully my little article was a wake up call to quite a few people! I had NO intent on harming the band, I had nothing to gain from that piece, I just found that behavior to be ignorant to the fans who paid good $$ to see the band.

So I'm looking way far into 2009 & I see the annual Warped tour has been announced & we have a tentative date we are covering, there's some interesting bands & our friends in TAT are playing the tour again as well!

I'd like to send out a quick thank you to Chelsea, she was by my side for most of last year, experienced all of the insanity that the rock n roll experience "life" can bring & I wanna send a quick shout out, here's to an even crazier 2009...hope you enjoy the ride! <3

REVIEWS

Before you begin reading these reviews, we have a rating system to tell you just how good or bad a CD is & here's the breakdown on how it works:

1 Star - You'd rather vomit than own this music!

3 Stars - It's okay

4 Stars - This is a good one, it lacks a little something, but it's a keeper

5 Stars - You should consider buying this...it's a good one!

6 Stars - Do what you have to do by any means to get this disc, it's a MUST HAVE!!

SCOTT WEILAND
Happy In Galoshes
Track Listing: Missing Cleveland, Tangle With Your Mind, Blind Confusion, Paralysis, She Sold Her System, Fame, Killing Me Sweetly, Big Black Monster, Crash, Beautiful Day, Pictures & Computers, Arch Angel

Rating: 6 stars!

Lead Singer for Multi-Platinum rock icon's Stone Temple Pilots, Scott Weiland has a new solo record out & as with his prior solo efforts, the music on this cd is less heavy & more artistic in the sense that STP were driven more by a band like Led Zeppelin where the core of the power came from intense guitars & strong vocals...the core of Weiland's solo material is very David Bowie inspired & to further prove that point, there's even a cover of "Fame" which finds Weiland adding his own take on that Bowie classic! "Missing Cleveland" is the lead single & probably the most rockin' track on the disc. but I'd say "Blind Confusion" is the most interesting song in my opinion because it's a quirky little song that's got turns & twists that make it a great listen both on a musical & lyrical standpoint! The theme of the disc's artwork reminds me of the classic vinyl records from the 70's..there's a "conspiracy" theme & the artwork really enhances that them pretty well although I don't believe the music has anything to do with that concept....it's actually quite nice to see an artist put effort into making cool packaging though, because in this download your music off the internet generation, artwork is becoming a thing of the past, & for those who appreciate a cool package that has killer music & great artwork, this cd delivers just that! The themes on this disc cover living life, love, christmas, fame, power, & lust...it's a very good representation where Weiland is at these days, & I give Scott credit, because often times a singer is JUST a singer, has no musical direction & when you have a huge band like STP, when the collective members decide to release solo music...sometimes you will realize that certain members have NO right releasing solo music because their "solo" efforts suck, BUT, with every Scott Weiland solo record, it's clear as daylight that Scott has a musical vision & he's an artist soul that paints a vivid picture both musically & lyrically on every song he touches. I'm actually excited to see Scott play these songs live too because he's currently out promoting this record & playing live shows!

REV CO

Sexo Olympico
Track Listing: HookerBot3000, Keys To The City (Vegas Mix), Red Parrot, Robo Banditos, Cousins, Touch Screen, I'm Not Gay, Abundant Redundancy, Lewd Ferrigno, Wizard of Sextown, HookerBot3000 (Disco A Go Go Mix)

Rating: 5 stars

Supposedly, Ministry rode out on a high note, leaving it's musical legacy behind as the Bush Administration left the White House in 2008...whether or not it's true, who knows, I personally hope not, BUT, Al Jourgensen's keeping busy with his side project, The Revolting Cocks & they have a new CD coming out on March 3, 2009 entitled "Sexo Olympico" & this sexy electro-f**ked, sexy industrial dance record is part pop, part rock, all sex themed, & when I hear a song like "Lewd Ferrigno" which is an obvious joke in regards to the original actor who played The Incredible Hulk on that very 70's TV show...when I hear Al Screaming his balls off in the middle of that song, it's sooo very Ministry that I think, man, I wish Al would reconsider & do more Ministry stuff! Ok, I veered off the review for a moment, but the cd kicks off with "HookerBot3000" & it ends with the same song, just the ending is a dancy remix...the interesting thing about every song on this cd is, you can practically here the possibility of a remix with every song...each song has a very un-mistakable dance feel to it & every song could easily be used as a stripper's theme song, which I will assume was the motive for this record...each song is kinda sexy in a sick kinda way! "I'm Not Gay" is pretty funny & my only complaint about this cd is that a few songs seem to go a little long & could easily be edited down just a little...the concept of really long songs is owned by Iron Maiden & Lynyrd Skynyrd for christ sake! Ok, with that little grip aside, this is a kick ass record, you can headbang to it, dance to it & even f**k to it if you want, so check it out on March 3, 2008!

John Frusciante

The Empyrean
Track Listing: Before The Beginning, Song To The Siren, Unreachable, God, Dark/Light, Heaven, Enough Of Me, Central, One More of Me, After The Ending

Rating: 5 stars

John Frusciante, the guitarist who's best known for his work with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, has a new solo record he's dropping on the world on January 20, 2009, & the disc is a theme record that was recorded over the past 2 years on & off, & Flea from the Chili Peppers is featured on this cd as well as numerous other guest players....John tells listeners that "I'm really happy with it & I've listened to it a lot for the psychedelic experience it provides & it should be played as loud as possible & it is suited to dark living rooms late at night." & I couldn't agree more...musically, this cd takes you on a little trip, the music ranges from rock, funk, pop, soul, & it's nothing like a Chili Pepper's record...I'd compare it to some of the beatnik styled stuff that came out in the late 60's/early 70's & it even touches on what Hendrix tried to cross over into when he went into really trippy material. This is a record that the weed smokers will love...don't get me wrong, it's a good record, just it's a record that, concept wise, a sober mind will interpret it differently than an impaired mind & the impaired mind is what this record is meant for...it's got that same vibe from that era when all that mattered was music & love...there's a cover of Tim Buckley's "Song TO The Siren" which I found to be mildly depressing, but the thing with Tim Buckley is, he was such a talented, yet tragic figure...his music always came from a place that made me sad, & hearing John's cover, it still evokes that same kinda emotion in me, yet it's also a beautiful cover!

TRIVIUM

Shogun
Track Listing: Kirisute Gomen, Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis, Down From The Sky, Into The Mouth of Hell We March, Throes of Perdition, Insurrection, The Calamity, He Who Spawned The Furies, Of Prometheus and the Crucifix, Like Callisto To A Star In Heaven, Shogun

Rating: 6 stars

Musically, I'm old enough to be able to hear a STRONG influence from the Metallica "Ride the Lightning" era...there's killer shred guitar & solo's, rough & clean vocals, & overall, this is probably the most powerful newer thrash metal band out there currently...the songwriting is amazing, the production is beautiful, & my only complaint about the entire packaging is, the cd has artwork, really unique paintings, BUT, there's few liner notes, no song titles inside the cd jacket, no lyrics...it's all pictures, & inside the back cover, it says to go to the bands website for lyrics, liner notes, etc., so I guess that's what you have to do if you want such info, but it kinda makes the cd booklet a little lacking in the mere fact that there's not even one band picture in the entire packaging & that's crazy if you ask me! I apologize for that rant, but I'm really into the packaging end of things & when I look at a cd, it's always interesting to me to see a picture of the band from that era...does that make sense? Ok, so back to the music, this cd has melody, harmony, thrashy riffs, & I remember always getting Bullet for My Valentine confused with Trivium because both bands kinda fell into that early Metallica kinda thrash groove, but with "Shogun" it's clear that Trivium are a step about the B.F.M.V. band in the songwriting area! The band are gearing up to tour with Slipknot this Winter, so be on the look out for that tour playing an arena near you in early 2009! I have to make one quick mention to, "Shogun", the title track...holy crap it's an epic song...it's over 11 minutes long & the tempo's change so much...it's crazy!

ROADRUNNER UNITED - THE CONCERT

DVD
Track Listing: (I won't list every track..basically EVERY major band who's ever been on RR is covered here!)

Rating: 6.5 stars

Ok, so if you look at the rating for this dvd, you'll notice it's got an extra .5 & that's a rarity for us...what that means is, this dvd kicks so much freakin' ass that it deserves even more than what we can give a normal release! This 2 disc dvd package covers the entire 12/15/05 Roadrunner Records 25th Anniversary show....I could have gone to this show & when I watch this dvd, I am kickin' myself in the ass, because this was the most amazing metal concert EVER!!!! The concert featured every major Roadrunner metal band (no, Nickelback wasn't there!!!) on that stage & the coolest thing was, the bands that played, they were one-off's that will probably NEVER play together again! Andreas from Sepultura, Dino from Fear Factory & Joey Jordison from Slipknot comprised the bulk of the band, but at various times you had different configurations of musicians that made EVERY moment of this show a totally unique experience! Seeing Corey Taylor & Keith Caputo sing "Bother" was beautiful & Keith fucked up one verse too, but it was no biggie & Corey covered it well! Biohazard's "Punishment" was the opening song of the night & Billy & Evan were the only Biohazard boys onstage with Andreas, Dino, Joey & Adam (Machinehead) filling out the rest of the band & this was the calm before the storm in all honesty! Seeing Rob from Machinehead cover a Trivium song, Ville from HIM sing "Black No. 1" by Type O Negative, seeing Killswitch Engage with Howard & Jesse was amazing, the Mercyful Fate & King Diamond covers were probably the most intricate & intimidating numbers of the evening & Ripper Owens nail the King Diamond vocals...beyond cool! Actually, the Mercyful Fate & Annihilator songs were the one's that posed the biggest threat to certain players & these were the songs that the better musicians went for...I won't name names, just look at the artist's who played on them! Seeing Acey Slade play on "Tired N Lonely" was cool, the Sepultura covers were the highlights of the night, the Slipknot covers were sick, & "March of the SOD" was one of my favorite moments too, considering that SOD & Scott Ian were never even on RoadRunner! At the end of the show Rob from Machinehead proclaimed the band was a "cock tease" because they started a Sabbath cover then stopped it! The extra disc that comes with this package is an interview disc that explains how each song came together, & Dino, Scott Ian, Joey Jordison, etc., give more details about the behind the scenes stuff...the funniest moment is where Adam from Machinehead calls out Dino from Fear Factory, because apparently Dino used to say that he plays a 7-string guitar & could find ANY key that a band played in & Adam made a comment like, "Hey buddy, there's no magical guitar that can match every tone...sometimes you need to tune to whatever the original version was played in!" Overall, this is the best metal dvd EVER release as far as I'm concerned...if you don't own this at some point in your life & you call yourself a Heavy Metal fan...

SABATTA

Emperor's New Clothes
Track Listing: Didn't C It, Cold Enuff, Emperor's New Clothes, Exit Right, Ain't No One Alive, Ace of Spades, HMP London, Taking My Time, Thorn, Love Is Like A Nervous Breakdown, Raw

Rating: 6 stars

I got a really cool EP from Sabatta a few months back..this London based rock band have a killer, riff-filled new full length entitled "Emporer's New Clothes" that's got real, raw, gutsy, brutally truthful sounding rock music that's got fuzzy bass tones, dirty guitar solo's, & the vocals are a mix of soulful power & dark passion....meet one of the most interesting bands to come from London in many years...Sabatta! There's a cover of "Ace of Spades" & what I notice right off the bat is there's a slight difference in the song, a mild pause in one part, that makes this cover unique...I think this cover also proves that the band has alot of musical ability & talent too, because I've heard covers of this song that sound heartless & very sterile...this cover sounds like it was recorded live onstage, warts & all...sorry, I had to toss a Lemmy joke in there! What I read in the bands bio was that EVERY song was recorded live, direct to tape & in all honesty, I miss the sound this band has...no other band has that real, raw, gritty sound in the studio....there's an almost "basement" feel to it, just really strong, loud, kinda like how a blown speaker, when turned REALLY loud, it can have a warm feel...that's how I'd describe Sabatta...they are a strong rock band with gutsy, often times blues soaked vocals, the rhythm is structured where you can shake your ass or bob your head, & the guitar riffs are flowing non-stop! "Taking My Time" finds the band kinda slowing it down a bit & the overall tone is very 70's styled rock...it almost reminds me of Thin Lizzy at times! "Thorn" is the bands ballad & it's a touching little number, & the last 2 songs on the cd are acoustic songs that honesty highlight the bands true musical genius...the very last song isn't really acoustic though, it just kinda starts that way, then it kicks into a low key kinda jam! Overall, Sabatta is a kick ass 3 piece rock n roll animal & I became an instant fan after the first minute of listening to this band...they bring rock n roll back to a level where it's pure, NOT pro-tooled to death, not perfect, & I think that people forget that rock n roll was always about reckless abandon...being care free, getting a little crazy, & f**king it up...Sabatta's jams have the power of Black Sabbath mixed with the energy of Motorhead & Thin Lizzy!

GUNS N ROSES
Chinese Democracy
Track Listing: Chinese Democracy, Shackler's Revenge, Better, Street of Dreams, If The World, There Was A Time, Catcher In The Rye, Scraped, Riad N' The Bendouins, Sorry, I.R.S., Madagascar, This Love, Prostitute

Rating: 6 stars!

AXL Rose is back....after a 10+ year hiatus, the long awaited follow up to Use Your Illusion 1 & 2...I know, technically, The Spaghetti Incident was the last studio release from GNR but on a technical level, that was an all cover's disc, so I don't count that as the real deal, so flash forward, a decade has passed, Slash, Duff, Izzy, etc., are no longer a part of the fold, & what you finally have available in a Best Buy store near you is "Chinese Democracy", the record that the rock world assumed would never be released! The irony is, by the time this record finally came out, many of the guys who recorded the original versions of these songs were erased off the final mixes...Brian May from Queen, Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society & Ozzy Osbourne's band, Slash, & the list goes on...it took forever for this 14 track opus to finally come out & I'll admit that when I started hearing songs leaked on the internet, my first thought was, did it really take a decade to record this record? The songs are good, at times overly produced, & what I heard in the records first single, the title track, "Chinese Democracy", was a voice that kinda sounded like the main man, Mr. AXL Rose, but it somehow sounded different, possible lower than the voice I heard on "Appetite for Destruction"...then when I heard "Shackler's Revenge" I heard it...that golden throat, the pipes that only AXL has...it hit me by the time the 2nd track on this cd started...the band was back, well, not really the band, but the force calling itself Guns N Roses..it was re-tooled, re-mixed, & re-booted for a new decade, a new era, & the blues based rock band that came out in 1987 with more piss & vinegar than a weathered, sea dog that spent it's life on the open seas...that band was re-designed to fit this new era of music, & overall, the first 1/2 of the record is full on rock...there's guitar solo's that NO local cover bands will ever be able to duplicate...Bumblefoot & Bucket Head are guitar freaks who you just can't duplicate...their mastery of the 6 stringed fret board is so crazy that it's not even believable until you see these guys do it live! The artwork is a little disappointing because the cover is just so bland compared to the bands prior covers, but I love the star with the tiny aliens on the inside back cover. Overall, this is a solid rock record...the first 1/2 is what grabs you & makes you take notice, the last 1/2 of the record is more of AXL's moody moments & that's where you can feel the inner workings of the man...his rock side has always been there & full of rage & anger, but the mellow moments, that's where you get to see AXL shine! There is a weird theme of loss & relationships on the disc, but it's not a concept record & it's probably something that just came out over the past few years in AXL's writing for the record. It took way too long for this record to come out, so let's hope the next GNR record doesn't take another 10 years to come out or you might see AXL in a walker on the bands next tour, which could be sponsored by Viagra!

TOADIES

No Deliverance
Track Listing: So Long Lovey Eyes, Nothing To Cry About, No Deliverance, I Am A Man of Stone, Song I Hate, Flower, Hell In High Water, Don't Go My Way, One More, I Want Your Love

Rating: 6 stars

I remember seeing the Burden Brother's about a year ago & I asked Vaden, "Will you ever do the Toadies again?" & he said something about the business killed that band & it was the Burden Brothers at that point & in all honesty, I had no problem with that...The Burden Brothers was a melodic, kick ass rock n roll outfit..it was less heavy & harsh & more song oriented...I didn't get a bio with this disc, so I'll omit the line-up for this disc & say that the band is a 3 piece fronted by original singer/guitarist Vaden, the opening track on the disc is a scorchin' rocker with a few potty mouth moments that flavor the venom this song has to offer! There's an interesting assortment of alt-rock & metal bliss, the chaotic moments balance out the mellow moments, the vocals are brash in parts & passive when necessary & the overall all tone of the record is full on reckless rock abandon! The Toadies really did have a good thing going on when the "Rubber Neck" cd came out, they did some substantial touring, had a major label deal, had a top 10 single, a video playing on MTV, & sadly, the business killed the band, but luckily for the die hard fans, The Toadies are back, there's new life in a band that was all but dead, & the best part of it all is, not only do we still have The Burden Brothers, but we also have The Toadies..Vaden is a talented guy, he's giving his fans a double dose of what he has to offer & as a Toadies fan, it's great to see the band back out there, touring, & giving us brand new music! I have to interject too that the artwork is pretty darned cool too...there's a weird theme of religion, the occult, & freaks...it's got a kinda "side show" vibe.

ROI & THE SECRET PEOPLE

Dog St.
Track Listing: Dog St., Arizona, Nancy, Starshine, Modern Day Samurai, Mississippi Sun, Keep It Real, Monday, Firefly, Lead Me Down

Rating: 5 stars

Based out of New York, Roi & The Secret People is an interesting rock band that's got a very jam oriented vibe/feel to what they do...they remind me of The Black Crowes alot, on a musical level, I can hear a little bit o' The Allman Brothers, Mountain, & what they do is very reminiscent of the 70's era of rock n roll where guitar solo's, groove & "vibe" are all that matters...there's no slick production here, no extreme pro-tool cut & paste, it's all about the sound, the vibe & the essence....this is good music that you could totally crank up in headphones while passing the proverbial "peace pipe" if you know what I mean....it's good, old school rock n roll, & some of the bands members are famous in their own right...Mike Roi was in a band called Brother Grimm & opened for Marilyn Manson & The Black Crowes to name a few, while Noel Rockwood was in The Snapdragons who were signed to Atlantic Records, & David Leatherwood has toured with Sting, Duran Duran & Aerosmith to name a few, so you've got some seasoned veterans here that make the music on this cd oh so pleasing to the ear! JOYFOCUS
Cyber Suburban Electro Rock Circus
Track Listing: Audrey Is Gone, Princess Samantha, Grey Day My Way (War of Me), Prayer, Salvation, Halos & Flames, All That You Need, Here Comes The Rain Again, Reprise

Rating: 6 stars!

JoyFocus is an indie band hailing from Wheaton, Illinois. The band has 3 self released albums under their belt & their most recently released product is entitled "Cyber Suburban Electro Rock Circus"...it's a lengthy title, but it pretty much sums up the music on this cd...it's got elements of rock & pop & each song has single quality to it which means that basically the entire cd is very radio friendly, upbeat, you can dance to it if you want, you can pogo if you want & the general vibe of the record is one of living life to the fullest, having no regrets & just going for it! The vocals are handled by Holly Joy & her high toned vocals are what make each song distinctive & the cover of "Here Comes The Rain Again" which is an Annie Lennex song, is dead on, there's little deviation from the original & to be honest with you, the overall performance on that cover is damn good! You can check out more on JoyFocus as www.joyfocus.com & the interesting thing to note is that the band is primarily 2 people, Holly on vocals & Rikk Currence filling in the rest of the music that Holly's vocals lay on top of. I have to admit that for an indie release, this is a professional package, the music is good, it's still got some raw edges which I like, while maintaining a very polished tone & sound.

VIDEO GAME THEATER dvd

Track Listing:

Rating: 6 stars

This dvd made me laugh my ass off! Video Game Theater is a short comedy skit that's shown on MTV Europe & basically, it's a handful of comedic spoof's on classic video game characters like Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Mario, & my personal favorite, as they put it, the first ever retarded video game star, Q-bert! The Pac Man pieces are the most popular & the spoofs show Pac Man at various points in his career, they elude to the fact that his son is gay, he's abusive to Ms. Pac Man & has some kinda serious drug habit...Joust is a seedy tale of a guy having an affair with an animal, & all I can honestly say is that this is one warped & twisted dvd that made me laugh pretty hard because whether you were old enough to play the classic "atari" era games back in the day or you only know of them because your parents speak of the older games, this dvd is a funny jaunt into video game past & the puppets look pretty cool, the overall show is low budget & that's part of the appeal to each episode....everything is low key, yet it's funnier than any high budget show out there!

GG ALLIN

The Best of GG Allin & The Murder Junkies Dvd
Track Listing:

Rating: 5 stars

GG Allin was a rebel, he was shocking, he was sick, he was odd & he's dead. Honestly, someone like GG Allin, I have no idea how he made a name for himself, I'm amazed kids would go to see his live shows because his live shows consisted of GG beating the crowd up, literally, while he was naked, & sometimes he's perform oral sex onstage with male or female audience members, he'd take a crap and/or urinate onstage, & hic vocals were harder than a Bottle of 20 year old Apple Juice! This dvd is a compilation of various concert clips from the man & his band & the coolest feature on this dvd is a brand new interview with GG's Mom! The song titles are disgusting, the performances are lewd & this dvd is pure GG Allin at his best, or worst, however you might view it! MVD Entertainment Group(MVD) has created a limited-edition 2-color poster for the GG Allin and The Murder Junkies “Best of” DVD release. For a limited time, fans who purchase the DVD at Interpunk.com can receive the poster for just $2 more (covers mailing expenses for poster tube). You can get that poster by going to: http://www.interpunk.com/item.cfm?Item=163551 Again, this dvd is definitely for adults only, GG is naked in the bulk of this dvd, & I still can't help but wonder if he had a bit of the Napoleon syndrome, meaning, he had a very tiny pee-pee so maybe that was why he was such an angry man? Regardless, he might be gone, but his legacy is not forgotten!

BURN HALO

S/T
Track Listing: Dirty Little Girl, save Me, Here With Me, Too Late To Tell You Now, Dead End Roads & Lost Highways, Saloon Song, Our House, Fallin' Faster, Anejo, Back To The Start, Gasoline

Rating: 6 stars

If you remember James Hart, he was the lead singer for 18 Visions, & when that band crumbled he assembled a new musical troop that he named Burn Halo, & this musical endeavor finds Mr. Hart in a more hair metal kinda mode...I saw this band on their very first show ever opening for Avenged Sevenfold back in December, & the bands image matched their music...very glittery, very rockin' & kinda borrowing from the past just a little. "Dirty Little Girl" & "Anejo" both feature guitar work by Syn from Avenged Sevenfold & the music on this cd is loud, aggressive hard rock that's got all cylinders firing as it pummels your ears with loads & loads of energy. There's quite a few tender ballads on this disc, but the core of it is all fast, hard rockers, so if you like good, old school hard rock, you'll dig this band because they are a rock n roll with an edge, heavy music without anger & to put it mildly, they kick ass!

Lloyd Dobler Effect

s/t
Track Listing: Have Faith, Meet Me In London, Radio, Spain, Release Me, Sold Out, Might Be Love, The Past, Fingertips, Stranger, Empty Reach, Going Back To The End Harvard, Our Countries, I Have The Touch

Rating: 5 stars

L.D.E. is an eclectic little band that plays moderate rock & they mix elements of latin music at times, there's a touch of ska-ish sounding stuff & where the bands shines is on their overall song writing ability! They don't tear it up wth excessive volume, instead, they bring a vibe & flair to the style of music they play which is something you will find yourself tapping your foot too as well as moving to as you catch onto the bands groove. They are an indie band & their new self titled cd sounds & looks pretty freakin' cool! Check out more on the band at www.lloyddoblereffect.com

EXCITER
S/T
Track Listing: Scream Bloody Murder, Back In The Light, Ready To Rock, O.T.T., I Wanna Be King, Enemy Lines, Dying To Live, Playin' With Fire, Eyes In The Sky, Termination

Rating: 6 stars!

Exciter were a thrash metal force to reckon with in the 80's..they were loud, fast, & in their day, they were considered Extreme Metal! They took it to a new level, were peers to Metallica & Megadeth, but I think the band really owed more of their sound to Exodus, who in essence, was Metallica related since Kirk Hammett used to be in the band! The Bay Area was noted for this style of music & Exciter played thrash metal with a passion, & it's only fitting that the bands debut release is being re-released for a whole new generation of music fans to appreciate. Fans of Trivium & Bullet for My Valentine will eat this band up & this cd has been very hard to find since it's original release...infact, I don't even think the original version was released on cd since cd's were not a popular format in the early 80's! Fans of thrash metal, discover what the old school thrash metal fans already know...Exciter was a kick ass thrash metal band..they didn't quite get the attention they deserved, but they were legends in the heavy metal underground!

GENE DANTE

No Deliverance
Track Listing: A Madness To His Method, Purity of Intent, The Starlet Hits The Wall, Photosynthetic, Brian My Darling, C Star Ok Sunshine, The Dreamers, Like A Satellite, This Is The Closing To A God Unknown

Often times I will get a cd in the mail, it's a rock band that's either ultra indie, super metal, or just very boring...there's not alot of "art rock" these days...honestly, the last truly "artistic" record I heard was the new Scott Weiland disc...it's creative & moody, has elements of pop, rock, ambient sounds, & in all honesty it kinda borrows heavily from Mr. David Bowie, the king of cool & the sultan of creepy! Gene Dante is part lounge singer, part glitter rock icon, with loads of androgyny sprinkled throughout, I listened to this cd, literally, about 6 times from beginning to finish..it's just a really artistic expression of art, moods, & overall there's a gay vibe to it, but in this era, it's cool to be gay...what I mean though is, there's a serious androgyny vibe...males are females, females are males....glamour is god! As a complete piece of work, this is the most creative, expressive & damn good record I've heard in a good long time....it takes you back to the time & place in music where it wasn't about politics, anger & misery...where it was about making good music & looking good while you did it!

NASHVILLE PUSSY
From Hell To Texas
Track Listing: Speed Machine, From Hell To Texas, Drunk Driving Man, Lazy Jesus, I'm So High, Aint You Business, Dead Men Can't Get Drunk, Late Great USA, Pray For The Devil, Why Why Why, Stone Cold Down, Give Me A Hit Before I Go

Rating: 6 stars!

Blaine, Ruyter, Jeremy & Karen, collectively known as Nashville Pussy, have a new cd out now called "From Hell To Texas" & with the bands new cd, they haven't really broke any new ground, they are still kicking' ass & takin' no prisoners...Blaine's vocals remind me vaguely of Blackie Lawless from WASP, but the music is a mix of southern rawk whiskey drenched in with hardcore ethics. "Why Why Why" is my personal favorite off the disc...when a song starts off describing how flat chested a woman was, then says she was like a pancake but not as sweet...I don't know, it's kinda funny in a sick & twisted way! From the first notes of "Speed Machine" to the last strums of "Give Me A Hit..", the entire cd hits hard, it's a great slab o' rock n roll decadence, angry vocals, squealing guitar solo's & tight rhythm!

CRUE FEST COMPILATION

V/A
Track Listing: Motley Crue - Saints of Los Angeles (Crue Fest Version), The Exies - These Are The Days, Papa Roach - SOS, Trapt - Who's Going Home With You Tonight, Marion Raven - Set Me Free, Sixx AM - Heart failure, Drowning Pool - Reason I'm Alive, Buckcherry - Brooklyn (electric), Charm City Devils - Let's Rock N Roll (Endless Road), Motley Crue - Wild Side (live)

Rating: 6 stars

This cd honestly serves as more of a "look who's on eleven-seven music" because it's all the bands that are on Mr. Nikki Sixx's label, you've got all the bands on here & it's actually a little more than just the bands who were on the tour, but regardless, the highlights of this cd are Charm City Devil's who are listed as Chosen Son..the band changed their name after the release of this cd, but their song kicks ass regardless, "Let's Rock N Roll" is a Baltimore rock anthem incase you didn't know! "Brooklyn" sounds killer as an electric song...the version the band released on "15" was unplugged, but both versions are strong tracks..the bonus track is a live version of "Wild Side" by Motley & all I can say is, you can't go wrong with live Motley Crue, so as a cool little label roster cd, this cd rocks!

SCALE THE SUMMIT

Carving Desert Canyons
Track Listing: Bloom, Sargasso Sea, The Great Plains, Dunes, Age of The Tide, Glacial Planet, City In The Sky, Giants

Rating: 5 stars

Technically proficient, amazing musicians with intense musical backgrounds, Scale the Summit have a new cd out entitled "Carving Desert Canyons" & this all instrumental release is heavy, fast, intense & I'll admit that it does miss something without vocals, but in all honesty, the band's musicianship is so freakin' amazing that they might be one of the best technical metal bands out there! The band isn't quite as boring as Dragonforce, they definitely keep things interesting, but the sad fact is, without vocals, the music on this cd will wind up being the background to your life instead of something you can hum along to & sing with, but I won't trash talk the band, they rip it up on their new release & again, on a musical level, they shred!!!

TED NUGENT - Reissues

Full Bluntal Nugity, If You Can't Lick 'em Lick 'em, Little Miss Dangerous
Track Listing:

Rating: 6 stars

Ted Nugent, the motorcity mad man, just re-released 6 of his best solo releases & they are remastered, sound tight, the packaging is sharp, & I was sent 3 of the 6 to review, so when I checked out "Full Bluntal Nugity" which is a live record recorded on 12/31/00 in Michigan, this cd finds Ted playing all the classics along with a few new songs...the cd boasts that there's NO overdubs, it's 100% live & for that fact, I have to say that this cd sounds amazing, Ted's guitar playing is loud & angry, the rhythm is dead on & this is a great freakin' cd! "Little Miss Dangerous" finds Ted in the 80's trying to reinvent his style but still maintain what he does best...rock like an animal! The title track is about his then girlfriend & she's even on the cover with Mr. Nugent....overall, the music on this cd is a mix of 80's sounding rock with Ted's Detroit sized riffs..."If You Can't Lick 'em" finds the Nuge back at it again, still writing classic songs about sex & seduction, lust & hunting & Ted did a good job of staying true to his sound while still remaining modern. These 3 reissues kick ass, they are packaged with new liner notes on that particular era of the Nuge & there's no bonus tracks, so I would say, if you've already got these discs, it's not worth wasting your $$ on re-buying them, but if you don't already have these releases on cd, these discs are worth buying!
