“THE WORKS”
By JAMES WHILD LEA

Having recently obtained the cd - “Hello - Goodbye” - Jimmy Lea The works. I thought I would give a run down of the quiet but noisey member of Slade:-

The first two tracks, Citizen Kane and Hello Goodbye - Jim plays all the instruments and they are bassy catchy singles which give the impression Jim’s enjoying his work. The next track is “Where have all the good girls gone”, another foot-tapper provided by our Jim, sounds familiar to another song - sorry I can’t think of it at present!” Next it’s a Holder/Lea number called “Shooting Me Down” - I think this would have fitted well on the “You Boyz...” album, followed by “I saw her standing there”, the old Beatles classic given a Slade feel by “our” producer. “Fever” is next, not much changed to the original just more bass. This is followed by “Simple Love” again written by Holder/Lea not really a Slade song but could have been a European Song Contest winner!!

“2Oth Century Boy” rocks us next no more needs to be said about this one. “Schools Out” gets Jimmy and Frank together to give this old favourite a pair of Balls! A reggae feel is given to “Coz I luv You” next two are Gary Holton songs “That’s HowThe Story Goes” and “Catch A Falling Star” (with “Still The Same” type melody) then The Dummies rare “B” side “She’s The Only Woman” the penultimate track is “We’ll Bring The House Down” by The Clout. A very good re-mix of the original with bit’s of Rap type singing. The final ditty is “Jim Jam” best played nice & loud. Jim at his best, fast and noizey!!

I hope it’s given you an insight to his CD and I hope we can hear again soon - more of the excellent work Jim does outside Slade.
