What is Podcasting?
Simply, a podcast is an easy way to automatically download audio files to your MP3 player through your computer. Use a free application to subscribe to the appropriate RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed. The application checks the site regularly and starts a download whenever it finds something new.
What Software Do I Use?
Depending on your preference, you can use
iTunes
(Windows 2000 or XP, and MacOS X v10.2.8 or later),
iPodder
(Windows, Linux, and OSX),
jPodder
(Windows, Linux, and OSX),
iPodderX (MacOS X)
Primetime Podcast Receiver
(Windows 2000, XP),
Nimiq
( Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 Server ),
DopplerRadio
(Windows),
FeederReader
(Windows Pocket PC),
PodNova
(Windows),
or another Podcast application of your choosing. Many are free applications.
How Do I Get Started?
Here's what you'll need: a computer, an Internet connection, a portable MP3 player or MP3-playback application on your computer, and some free podcasting software listed above.
1. Install the software on your computer (PC, Mac, or Linux).
2. Subscribe to a Podcast Feed by pasting its URL into your Podcast application. Though every application is different, there are generally directions to "add" or "subscribe to" a podcast feed.
On my archive page there is a logo under the show logo. You'll want to right click on the podcast logo. Select "copy link location" or "copy shortcut" and paste the link into the Podcast application of your choosing. You'll then be subscribed and the audio will begin downloading.
3. The next time you synch your MP3 device, any new audio files added since your last synch will automatically be downloaded.
