Michel Morel

He is the direct ancestor on the Madore line.  Not much is known on Michel Morel.  He Arrived in New France around 1665.   He came from Troyes, Champagne, France.   He married Marie Grandin in 1669 in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec.   She was a  King's Daughter.

They had their first and only child Francois Morel on Jan 18 1671.   Later that same year, on September 19, 1671, the husband, Michel Morel, dies.   We are descendant through this one child.

In 1672 she remarries a Claude Robillard and has 9 children with him.

Why Madore dit Morel Name

It is not known yet where the Madore name came from.  It shows up at the second generation back in the late 1600’s.  Michel Morel’s only son is Francois Morel, also known as Francois Mador.  By the early 1800’s, the name Morel is dropped and Madore is used.

Many names changed back in the early 1600’s.  People came from europe to a new land and wanted a new name.   Michel Morel may have been a Madore in France and changed it to Morel when he arrived in New France.  Or he may have taken his mother’s maiden name?  Maybe some day I’ll run across the real reason for this name change?  For now, we can only speculate.
