1. Commissioned from Pakistan Army in 1952 .
2. Qualified in PSC Course from Pakistan and NDC Course from India .
3. Promoted to the rank of Lt. General and appointed as the chief of Bangladesh Army in 1st December 1978 .
4. Retired from Bangladsh Army in October 1986 .
5. President of People's Republic of Bangladesh from 1982- 1990 .
6. Elected as the Member of Parliment in 1991 and 1996 .
7. Chairman of Bangladesh Jatyyo Party .
