Counting Our Blessings

Counting our blessings is a site generated to show off the paintings of Cathie Knight Jones, a soul painter from Windsor, Ontario Canada. Cathie is a divorced mother of two teenage boys.

In December 1998, Cathie was sexually assaulted by a co-worker, and was subsequently unable to return to the work force. She was voluntarily hospitalized in The Homewood Health Centre in Guelph, Ontario for extended treatment for Depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The Homewood offers a 6 to 10 week program for the treatment of Depression. The program is a Psycho-Spiritual approach designed to help the participants find purpose and direction in their lives. This is achieved through highly dedicated and specialized staff who offer programs such as Self and Identity, Art Therapy, Horticulture Therapy, Music Therapy, Grief workshops, Play Therapy, Spirituality and many more highly effective programs to help integrate the depressed person back into society.

Prior to her admission to The Homewood, Cathie had never held a paintbrush in her hands. One evening she attended an optional evening course where the participants painted for the fun of it. After getting dirty and painting a couple of pieces, she went to her room and painted another picture, because it had felt so good earlier. The first recognizable piece she painted was "The Sunflowers" and from there she has gone on to create many paintings that have been described as "moving" "alive" and "allowing me to feel". Cathie descirbes her ability as God working through her. She says, "All I do is hold the brush - God does the work!"

On this site Cathie's work is presented with inspirational stories Poems and songs.
