Acoustic Speaker using a Mid-range, a card-board box and a paper towel tube! Sounds odd, but is main principal behind the BOSE WAVE ACOUSTIC system!

Above ^^^ illustrates what I call the "bass-flex", a 1.5:1 ratio in the pass of sound that happens when you place a cardboard with a smaller hole than the diameter of the speaker. Enriched even more when you place a towel tube over the hole to make the sound "baffle" the sound.

In the end out, you may want a box with the hole in the side so you can lay the speaker on top of  the box and use some floor-padding (with the same size hole) and place in-between the speaker and the side of the speaker to better seal the speaker to the box.

If you have it set up like i do, you will like the sound, it should not dampen the lows, in fact they should be boasted as well as a bass that sounds like it is a woofer instead of a mid-range I love mine, it sounds better than 5.1 dolby and less speakers are required!
