Consider using a free web-based email address for activism, GMM-MMM, etc..
Good, popular ones are Google Mail http://mail.google.com and Yahoo Mail http://mail.yahoo.com. Both filter out viruses for free. Both provide gigabytes of free email storage. Both allow use of alias names that you can change at any time.
Also, avoid AOL email addresses for GMM-MMM use. In the past AOL has blocked many MMM emails from getting through to AOL email addresses, if the email contains certain MMM web address URLs. AOL has had many complaints due to its blocking of important requested emails from many organizations. I don't know if this is still an ongoing problem.
Another reason to use Google Mail that it is good at blocking spam. Google Mail lets you choose whether graphics are opened in any email. Graphics are often used by spammers to tell them if someone opened their spam email. The spammer then knows that the email address is good, and so that email address receives more spam. There is a link setting at the top of all Google email that allows you to decide whether to view graphics found in that email. It also asks whether you want that setting for all email from that email address. It can be reversed too.
I recommend Google Mail. I rarely use Yahoo Mail except for receiving the output of email lists that I don't check often. Yahoo Mail is slower to use, and less intuitive in its format and use. Another disadvantage with Yahoo Mail is that the new Yahoo Mail format has a right-side ad banner that constricts the space for viewing the titles of email in the inbox. Ads in Google Mail do not interfere with anything. Classic Yahoo Mail does not have this problem.
Yahoo Mail has another problem. It eliminates blank lines between paragraphs in email it receives. It does this for paragraphs separated by <p> tags. Paragraphs separated by <br> tags are OK. Email sent out by Yahoo Mail is fine either way. The problem only effects email that Yahoo Mail receives.

OK, but overall, Google Mail is better, easier, and faster.
