How We Met

We met in August, 2000 on a mission trip to San Diego, CA with Phoenix First Church of the Nazarene Youth Group. We were helping to fix up a church. We hung out all weekend and then about a month later at a car wash that the youth group had, Ryan asked me to his senior homecoming dance. So, this was technically our first date. We went to the dance on October 28, 2000 and then on November 19, 2000, he asked me to be his girlfriend and we've been happily dating ever since.: )

Proposal

Ryan was supposed to visit me at school on Sat, November 6, 2004 for the weekend because we hadn't seen each other in 3 weeks. Well on Friday he called me and said he had to work that weekend and there was no way he could get out of it. Needless to say, I was really bummed! So since my weekend plans changed, I went to work Sat morning and worked 10-2. Then my friend Sam and I decided to watch "Dirty Dancing," because I had never seen it. After work, we went and got food and then came back to my room to watch the movie. We were on the very first scene and Sam's phone rang once and she just hung it up, which I found a little odd. She said she would be right back and left the room. I'm so naive I just thought she had a private call. She was gone for about 10 minutes and then she came back with 24 pink roses in a vase. And it still didn't dawn on me! I just thought he felt bad so he sent me flowers. But, when I read the card, I figured it out lol. It said, "Sarah Nicole, I love you. Open the door..." So, I did and there he was all dressed up in a suit and his lucky tie down on one knee. And he just blurted it out, "Will you marry me?!" Of course I said yes and sort of jumped at him in excitement. But, I didn't cry. I was just super excited. He had the ring placed on top of a little angel cheeks figurine holding a heart shaped balloon that says, "Love". I was so excited! We went out to dinner at this little Italian restaurant in Flagstaff and then headed to Phoenix for the rest of the weekend to show everyone. It was a surprising weekend! I was sort of expecting it soon because our 4 year anniversary was coming up in a few weeks, but he definitely surprised me with choosing that day.

My ring

I fell in love with it
last June and he went back and bought it.: )

What We're Up to Now

Ryan is working full time at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. He is in Network Support; he plans, upgrades, manages, and maintains the GCU networks on campus. He graduated from High-Tech Institute in December 2002 with an Associate's Degree in Information Systems Technology. Since then he has also worked at University of Phoenix Online in tech support and as a tech support manager. He has been working at GCU since July 2004. In September 2003, Ryan and his friend, Mike, moved into a house that Ryan had built in Avondale, AZ, which is in the West Valley. Then, in October 2003, his cousin Matt moved in too. In November 2003, we found a black labrador pitbull mix near our church and she joined his family. Her name is Sansa; she's adorable and she is about 2.5 years old. Mike and Matt still currently live with Ryan and Sansa.

I graduated from Barry Goldwater High School in May 2002 and started at Glendale Community College in August 2002. While in high school and at GCC, I worked at Walgreens as a cosmetician. I graduated from GCC in May 2004 with an Associate's Degree in Liberal Studies. After taking a last minute summer course in Humanities, I started at Northern Arizona University in August 2004 as a photography major. NAU is in Flagstaff, AZ which is about 1.5 hours away from Phoenix on a good traffic day.; ) I love Flagstaff because it reminds me so much of PA. There are even pine trees! I have discovered that I need to live in a temperate climate though; the cold weather is not agreeing with me anymore. I am currently working on campus at the Social Research Labratory. We do telephone surveys, and no, we don't sell anything! It's not too bad and it's some income that's not retail.; / I also live on campus in a dorm, which I really like. My room at school is bigger than at home, so I can't complain. My roommate for the 2005-2006 school year is from China and her name is Mao. She's very sweet! I will be graduating from NAU in December 2006. I will have to finish one last semester after I'm married because I recently added advertising as a second major. But, it won't be so bad because it's only two classes. So, now I'm just focusing on school and planning our wedding.
