Hello, Goodbye

Mornin' has come, and Lord, my mind is aching, yes it is
Sunshine, standing quietly at my door

Draco yawned, stretching his limbs above him. He felt like his head was being ran over with a truck over and over. He looked to his right to see his wife. She wasn’t there. He frowned and looked at the clock. It was only 5:15 a.m. She was rarely ever up this early. He dismissed it easily and sauntered clumsily to the bathroom to take a shower and get ready for the day. He loved Saturdays…

Just like the dawn, my heart is silently breakin'
With my tears, it goes tumbling to the floor

He rubbed his eyes and headed to the dining room with his silky blonde hair dripping wet and his stomach rumbling for food. He sat down and a feast appeared before him. He ate like a starved man and wondered when his wife would grace him with her beautiful presence.

His mercurial eyes glanced at the vase in the middle of the table and speculated about how long it had been there and why had he never seen it. Something lay beside it. It was a piece of propped up parchment with his name scrawled across the front. He frowned as he wiped his mouth and got up to retrieve the letter. It was his wife’s handwriting. Maybe this would answer his question to where she was…

Dear Draco,

By the time you read this, I’ll be gone. Don’t bother to search for me or try to contact me. I’m gone and I have a secret keeper. It proves futile to even bother.

You know I love you more than anything else in this world. I can’t imagine, I don’t want to imagine life without you, but I have to so I will. You’ve hurt me for the last time. I can’t take it anymore. It’s breaking me. You don’t know how much you mean to me. It’s something so strong that I can’t even begin to comprehend.

I watched you sleep last night. You were so beautiful. I wanted to wake you up and tell you, but I’m just not strong enough. I know what you do when you work late or when you have to go on a business trip. People tell me. I see things for myself. I love you so much, but I can’t stay with you anymore. I hurt so much… Please forgive me.

Sincerely,

Ginevra Weasley

P.S. – I’ll send over the divorce papers.

Draco stared at the paper with his eyes bulging out a bit. His fingers trembled and his eyes began to fill with tears. Her letter was so distant, so cold. It was like a façade of what he used to be. Couldn’t she at least put ‘Love’ in stead on ‘Sincerely’? His knees gave out on him and he fell to the floor, clutching to the letter. His entire body wracked with anger and grief.

Once again, the whole town will be talkin', yes they will
Lord, I have seen the pity that's in their eyes (talking)

His bloodshot eyes were erased of tears as he staggered down Hogsmeade to the Hog’s Head. He plopped down onto one of the seats and ordered a Firewhiskey mixed with rum. He looked around the bar and noticed that a few eyes were trained solely on him. Some with hatred burning and others with compassion. He sneered. He didn’t need their pity. Word really got around fast. As his drink came, Pansy Parkinson strolled over, vacating a seat across from him. He was always a friend with this vindictive bitch. She slapped a copy of the Daily Prophet onto the table. His eyes questioned her as she motioned to it.

His quicksilver eyes melted into a slate gray as his pupils dilated with anger after he skimmed the entire article. His teeth were grinding with betrayal. He threw the paper aside and downed his entire mug in one swift gulp. He felt the fire burning through his veins and down his throat. Pansy stared at him with consternation.

“So it’s true?” she whispered.

His eyes fell into hers and that’s all the answer she needed. She gave him an awkward pat on the hand and walked away.

They could never understand, it's her sorrow, it's not a man
And no matter what they say, I know she tried

It wasn’t her fault. She had a right to leave him and go to Blaise. She tried to make him happy, but he just wasn’t content. It was his own damn fault. She was hurting so she left him first before she could hurt any more. He could understand her logic, but didn’t want to. He also knew that they didn’t always have a strictly platonic relationship before him. He made her happy like she was supposed to be.

Baby's packed her soft thing, and she's left me,
she's left me, she's left me
And I know she didn't mean to make me cry

He apparated home and fell onto the bed, inhaling the scent that was uniquely her. He opened the small chiffonier on her bedside and saw that everything was gone. Why hadn’t he noticed it before? He rummaged through their personal closet. It was completely empty. He ran to the bathroom for the second time that day and realized that her things were all gone. His eyes clenched shut. Why did this make him feel even barren than before? He never understood he significance of her things until now.

Without knowing, tears poured out like an ethereal waterfall. They splashed onto the floor inaudibly. Insecurities resurfaced. She didn’t meant to hurt him, right? Would she ever be back?

It's not her heart, Lord, it's her mind,
She didn't mean to be unkind
Well, she even woke me up to say goodbye

He needed to find her. He needed to apologize. He needed her and only her. He wouldn’t get a divorce. He would go to her on his knees to get her back if need be. He couldn’t lose her… Not like this…

It's not her heart, Lord, it's her mind,
She didn't mean to be unkind
Well, she even woke me up to say goodbye
Goodbye, baby...

He cast a locating charm to find Blaise. He was somewhere on the border between France and Italy. He apparated there with lightening speed, accidentally landing on top of some stranger. After a quick apology, he ran as quickly as his legs would allow him where his wand was directing. He stood in front of an ice cream parlor with Ginny, both sharing a strawberry ice cream cone. Strawberry was always her favorite. This was like the equivalence to Diagon Alley. He sighed. She had lied about the whole secret keeper. He staggered over to where they stood. He was a bit intoxicated, but not too much. Ginny’s eyes wandered over to his and she squeaked, jumping behind Blaise for support.

“Ginny,” Draco whispered brokenly.

She peeked over Blaise’s shoulder and peered into his hooded eyes. Silver eyes pleaded with her. She noticed the soft lines forming on his cheeks and the bloodshot eyes. She hesitantly walked out from behind Blaise. He stopped her with his arm.

“Are you sure about this, Gin?” he asked quietly.

She nodded slowly and faced her husband. Blaise gave them a bit of space to figure things out and watched from afar.

“Ginny,” he repeated hoarsely.

“Yes, Draco?” she queried gently.

“Don’t leave me,” he begged, dropping down on his knees.

He wrapped his arms around her body and snuggled his face into her pliant waist, sobbing in the middle of the street. The jagged rocks dug into his skin and pierced it, but he didn’t care. He couldn’t let her leave. He missed her warmth already. Her eyes clenched shut reflexively as she ran her smooth hands through his silky hair.

“Draco, Draco, Draco,” she muttered repetitively.

“I need you,” he confessed with blatant honesty that she couldn’t even pretend that it was an act. “I love you… Don’t leave me… Don’t leave me… Please… I’ll never do it again… Don’t… Leave… Me…”

His words were punctuated with painful gasps. If she didn’t want him anymore… He didn’t know what he would do.

“I-I don’t know, Draco. I need time. I need space. I need love,” she murmured.

“But I do love you,” he mumbled.

“It you love me so much then why did you do it?” she questioned angrily, trying to pry free of his grasp.

“I don’t know. I wanted to see if anything out there was better. It isn’t. You’re the best and I should’ve realized it from the start,” he replied.

Her eyes softened another notch.

“I’m so sorry, Gin. Please come back. Please forgive me,” he beseeched.

She bit her lip in concentration, trying to sort out her feelings.

“Okay…” she smiled. “But this is your last chance. If you botch it up, I’m out of your life forever.”

He gulped, but nodded. He could live with that. He loved her.
