Willie David Clark

It has happened. Willie David Clark, otherwise known as 'Walking Willie' has met his maker. I always  thought he would end up mangled in the undercarriage of some motor vehicle. But it didn't happen that way. His died under the care of Hospice. Probably his liver (Just my guess).

According to stories I have heard, Mr. Clark was a smart fellow. But something happened to him mentally after the death of his mother. Then he started walking around town begging for money. He always said the money would be used for food, but it was more often used to buy malt liquor. 

He would roam the streets of Zephyrhills, stopping door to door and ask to sweep up / clean the / mow the yard / parking lot or whatever for a couple of bucks. More times than not the owners of the home / business  would pay him BEFORE any work was completed and Willie would immediately leave and walk to the nearest store. Other times the people at whatever place he showed up at would freak out, and call 911 because there was a black man looking though their house or business windows.

Mr. Clark must have held the record for the number of trespass warnings for any one person in the history of the Zephyrhills Police Department. Bar none. Other than trespass warnings, he was arrested for exposure a few times. He would forget the his fly was down after he relived himself then start walking again with his unit swinging for anyone to see.

Willie was a real hazard to vehicle traffic. He would walk right on the white painted line, head tilted almost 90 degrees down. He had a horrible habit of changing course suddenly and crossing the street, without any warning, or signal, at a seconds notice. and put himself in the path of traffic. Being a cab driver you would have to know his location at any given time then pass it along to the other drivers over the radio so they wouldn't make him a pile of hamburger. Willie came to know the shape and texture + the kinetic energy of the grill attached to a vehicle more than one time in his life. One event comes to mind, Mr. Clark Vs. a RV on 20th street. Willie lost. After that encounter he wore a bandage that for purposes looked just like a turban for about 2 months.

And yes he even hit me up for money a few times, mostly at gas stations while I was refueling my hack. I always asked him what he wanted the cash for and he would always respond with 'sandwich'. So I would go inside and buy a sandwich and bring it back to him. He kinna frowned at me but he would eat it anyway.
