Arwen

(Liv Tyler)

Arwen Undomiel was born in TA 241 to Lord Elrond Halfelven and Lady Celebrian. She lived in peace in Rivendell and Lothlorien for many years, but she met Aragorn in the woods of Rivendell and her doom was set. The Elves are immortal, but by marrying mortals, they choose to give up their immortality. Arwen had the choice before her: whether to stay in Middle-earth and marry Aragorn, foresaking her immortality, or to follow her father across the sea to the Undying Lands, where she could live in happiness away from the sorrows of Men. Arwen chose to marry Aragorn, and live a mortal life. On Midyear's Day, TA 3019, she married Aragorn and became Queen of Gondor. She had one son, Eldarion (meaning "Of the Elves"), and a number of daughters. Aragorn died in TA 3141 (FO 120) on March 1st, and Arwen died the next winter. Arwen was noted for her dark beauty, which was said to resemble that of her foremother, Luthien Tinuviel. Arwen means "Royal/Noble Maiden" and Undomiel means "Evening star (or evenstar)", although it has been translated as "Twilight daughter". Arwen was 2777 years old when Frodo left the Shire. In the movies, she is played by Liv Tyler.
