Encylcopedia of Arda This is absolutely the site for fanfic writers or people who just love Tolkien's work. It has entries on literally everything to do with Lord of the Rings, all cross-referenced. This is a great reference for keeping your geneaology or your geography straight when you're writing.
Taramiluiel's Home This is a great site for Elvish. I don't think it has a straight-up Elvish dictionary, but it does have a list of phrases translated correctly, some songs and verse in Sindarin, info on Sindarin's origins, and just all around cool stuff. Arwen Undomiel This is more a general LOTR fan site. The highlight in my opinion is their Elvish section--English to Elvish and Elvish to English sections, as well as all the Elvish translated from the movie and pronunciation guides. But their quizzes are pretty fun too. :)
Council of Elrond Yet another terrific site for Elvish, and just about everything else I can think of. Want a biography of Tolkien? It's here. How about a comparison of books vs. movies, or a recipe for miruvor? You could get more lost on this site than in Moria.
Theonering.net: Q&A Got a question? Here's the answer. Covers a multitude of nagging questions, including what the heck the eagles were doing there in the first place, which is my pet peeve. And if you don't see your question answered, you can submit it. One con: hasn't been updated in a while.
FanFiction Archives
Fanfiction.net This is the largest depository of fanfiction, all genres, on the web. Needless it say it's huge but it's fairly easy to navigate and it's a good place to get started or to investigate a new interest. A few beefs: Because there are no quality-controls on ff.net, it has the worst fanfiction on the net. Looking for Legomance? This is the place. But it also contains a lot of great stuff by great authors (yours truly included :D). It also does not allow any stories with a higher rating than R.
Adultfanfiction.net Same lack of quality control, except they only accept stories rated R or Nc-17. They claim they're not in direct opposition to Ff.net, but it sure seems that way. A lot less Mary Sewage here and a lot more slash, but it can be unreliable (read: goes down frequently).
Library of Moria This is a slash only archive for LOTR, organized by pairing. The archivist recently got back from vacay so it's getting lots of lovely updates. All pairings and ratings accepted, and it carries both FPS (Fictional Person Slash) and RPS (Real Person Slash). The only place I'm aware of on the net with a considerable selection of Silmarillion slash.
Henneth Annun One of the sites that actually does have quality control, but they don't discriminate against any genre. This is the best place to find general LOTR fic, and also the best place for academic/canonically correct fics.
Of Elves and Men Has a good mix of het, slash, and gen fiction. All genres/rating accepted, the only prohibition they have that I'm aware of is against chan (underage persons in sexual situations). Also has RP het and slash. Very well organized and fairly large.
Axe and Bow Archive The archive for the Axe and Bow Yahoo! group. Strictly Legolas/Gimli, both as friendship and as slash. The bad news is that the site hasn't been updated in over a year, but we keep hoping. Updated or no, it's a great resource for fans of L/G slash such as myself.
Faramir Fiction Archive
And now, for my other obsession... An archive of Faramir fiction, mostly slash. Their other genres are expanding, though, but let's face it: slash is the best. :)
The Theban Band
Okay, I know, this isn't a fiction archive. What it is is a series of sinfully good photo manipulations, not all of which but most of which are slash. Unfortunately, only one Aragorn/Faramir, but there's hope for the future, and in the meantime the Elf/Elf and Aragorn/Boromir sections are stellar.
Personal Sites
I'm not sure on the policy on linking to other people's personal sites without asking permission, and frankly, I'm not too keen on tracking down a billion people and asking for permis. Maybe when I have more time and/or ambition I will, but for now I'm putting the initiative on the other side of things. In other words, if you want a link here, just let me know.
