gjWelcome to the (movie) world of...
The Lord of the Rings
The Lord of the Rings
is a trilogy created by J.R.R. Tolkien.
It includes The Fellowship
of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of
the King. They were
originally best-selling books, that have recently been
converted to award-winning
movies. Millions of people around the world
have experienced the
amazing cinematography and state-of-the-art special
effects of The Lord
of the Rings.
The Return of the
King, the most recent of the movies to be released, recently won
11 Academy
Awards, including
Best Picture and Best Director. All three of the movies were shot
in new
Zealand, and while
most of the sets were shot with blue screens, and "Bigatures"
(big
minitures), some sets,
like the hilltop city of Edoras, were actually built lifesize,
on location.
These carved horses
show just some of the many fine details that they added to make
Edoras as
similar to the description
of Edoras that J.R.R. Tolkien gave in The Two Towers. Edoras was
also made in several
other scales, for all of the different shots that were needed.
