Clinical Services
Turning the Corner offers a range of clinical services tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. Our program has an integrated and comprehensive array of services including individual therapy, group therapy, behavior management, substance abuse education, licensed educational program, and recreational opportunities. Turning the Corner utilizes a behavioral cognitive approach complemented by psychodynamic interventions to assist residents as they learn positive ways of changing the offending criminal behaviors. The program foundation is one of group dynamics and positive peer culture, where each resident is recognized and receives encouragement for their positive growth and law-abiding behaviors. Each resident has an Individual Treatment Plan, which is formulated during the first thirty days of the youth’s placement at Turning the Corner.
Each resident receives a minimum of one hour of individual therapy per week from a therapist. Individual therapy is one way for the youth to gain insight into his life, and learn ways of improving it.
Residents participate in psychotherapeutic, pyscho-educational, and/or community groups a minimum of three times per week. Group therapy offers residents a safe environment where they can discuss and learn how to deal with a variety of issues. Group sessions are supportive in nature and help to strengthen peer relationships within the program. A critical part of the group process is in it ability to encourage residents to understand and be supportive of other residents.
One of the cornerstones of Turning the Corning treatment program is the recognition of the individual resident as a member of a family system. Many of our residents have no experiences a healthy home environment because of the numerous negative factors in the development of their family. We provide each resident with a health relationship milieu to role model positive family relationships. The family treatment component is interwoven throughout each resident’s individual treatment plan. Parents are encourage to be involved in every phase of the resident program. The Clinical Director provides family therapy once a week.
