Transcript from March 18, 1998

CCCMyst: Welcomes You to Tonights Feature Presentation onight we welcome Sarah Buxton and now without further ado Welcome SARAH BUXTON!

Questions: misschristine says: do you find it difficult to play such a coniving character?

SarahBuxton: No, I don't find it difficult, I find it really interesting, because it's fun to be what you really can't be in real life ;-)

Questions: ishtar says: You were on the Bold and the Beautiful (Glamour) as well. what character did you play there? And is that what lured you to Sunset Beach?

SarahBuxton: I can't remember the name of the character I played, but I played Carrie Mitchum's best friend, and no, it didn't lure me to Sunset Beach, because it was so long ago. Then I got a part in Less Than Zero, so my part ended on the Bold and Beautiful.

Questions: minerva says: I saw you in Don't tell mom the babysitter's dead, great part! Do you have any movie roles in your future? What are you working on?

SarahBuxton: I have a movie coming out called Straight To The Heart starring John Hurt and David Strestaron that should be coming out in May. It opens in Europe at the end of this month. As far as other things coming up, I'm busy with Sunset Beach right now.

Questions: diomita says: I understand you grew up around Southern California was it easy for you to break to into acting, growing up in and around LA?

SarahBuxton: I suppose it was easier than for people who didn't grow up in LA I was approached by a manager in a supermarket, so I was sort of around the entertainment business since I was young.

Questions: rubenesque says: do you miss doing gymnastics?

SarahBuxton: Yes, I do miss doing gymnastics. I try to practice sometimes in a class, but in my mind I can still do all the things I could do when I was young, but when it comes to doing them, I find I can't actually do them ;-)

Questions: youbetcha says: did you have fun at the soap awards?

SarahBuxton: Yes, I had lots of fun! It was a big honor to be nominated for Best Villainess. It was nice to see all the people from the New York and LA soaps get together and have fun.

Questions: oscarwinner says: SunsetBeach was the first new daytime drama in a while...did that add extra pressure or excitement to the set?

SarahBuxton: It added extra excitement. All the other soaps were sort of looking at us to see how we were going to compete. But it was also very refreshing for us. It was a new concept, and I think people were looking to see something new.

Questions: bahaia says: who's the most serious on the cast? And who's the cut up?

SarahBuxton: I think the most serious would have to be Clive Robinson, but not really seriously -- no really, I think I'm the most serious, because sometimes I turn into Annie and the funniest would be Sam Behrens, he's always playing jokes on people, and telling jokes.

Questions: tv4me says: does annie remind you of anyone you know in real life? What do you draw on in the way of experience to prepare when you play her?

SarahBuxton: I think that Annie is a combination of a lot of my friends, and I've drawn on a lot of my own experiences, but also observing other people in real life, and my own imagination.

Questions: roverhere says: What do you like to do when you're not working?

SarahBuxton: I like to go to spas, and get massaged, and I also like to exercise. I like to go on vacation with friends, and just forget about everything!

Questions: meriwidow says: how do you deal internally with having to play such a scheming individual on TV?

SarahBuxton: I have to say that sometimes it gets to me, it stirs me up in side, because it's pretty emotional and evil, but I definitely make a point of shaking it off before I leave and not taking my work home with me :-) And I do a meditation with I get home, to calm myself down ;-)

Questions: athensgal says: I have to admit, I'm not a big horror film fan but I seem to be a minority in that. What led you to take the horror film roles you did? And were they fun?

SarahBuxton: I think the reason why I took them, was just about timing, and what was available to me, as far as job offers, but they turned out to be a lot more fun than I imagined. It's actually a lot of fun to play those parts, with all the blood and makeup, it's not reality!

Questions: conscience says: are they any charities you're active in and/or support strongly?

SarahBuxton: I haven't yet had the time to get involved in any, but there is a project I'm starting to get involved with in Beverly Hills, which is all the cancer hospitals in Los Angeles, covering a water tower with works of art. It's called Project 1099. I'd also like to get involved with Environmental causes, and I will, when my workload lessens somewhat.

Questions: barbienot says: do you wear your on clothes on SunsetBeach? If not, how does wardrobe decide what cool clothes you're going to wear?

SarahBuxton: No, I never wear my own clothes. I get to help choose some of my clothes, but the wardrobe department is very talented, and they come up with great outfits!

Questions: soapbubbles says: so are you going to get Ben? And what'll happen to Meg?

SarahBuxton: I don't think I'll get Ben. I think Ben is a lost cause for Annie. For now! My interests have changed, but Ben's always in the back of my mind. As for Meg, she'll just have to take the wrath of Annie ;-)

Questions: dishpanhands says: Hi Sarah, I've enjoyed your appearances on various soaps and shows, do you have a preference for Daytime Drama, or Movies?

SarahBuxton: I love my daytime drama, because it's every day, and my character is so continuous, but I also like making movies, because there's a beginning, a middle and an end so I like them both for different reasons.

Questions: speedo says: Tell us about your experience on Baywatch, what was it like?

SarahBuxton: My experience on Baywatch was *very* exciting. Working with David Hasselhof, he's an incredibly nice man! My character got into all sorts of trouble as usual. And it was lots of fun -- and very challenging -- being attacked by a gigantic Porteguese Man o War!

Questions: ^bratgirl^ says: whats form of formal acting schooling have you had? and where did you study?

SarahBuxton: I have studied a lot! I started at The Performers when I was 14, and then I went on to spend I think 8 years at Lost Studio with Bill Traylor and Peggy Fury. When I started there, people like Sean Penn, Meg Ryan, Teri Garr, Meg Tilly were studying there so it was great to watch them and their work. I was very young then, so I was looking at them with wide eyes! And as of recently I've studied with Howard Fine, an LA based acting coach.

Questions: bp says: Which movie did you have the most fun making?

SarahBuxton: The last movie I just did, Straight to the Heart, because it was in New Zealand to start off with, and it was great fun to travel and work there. And working with John Hurt was very exciting. because he's just so creative!

Questions: movienut says: what's the funniest thing that's ever happened on the Set of Sunset Beach?

SarahBuxton: One time I was doing a scene in the deep and I was in the middle of a serious scene, and I turned around to have a conversation SarahBuxton: with, I think, it Dax Griffin, and this man walked in wearing a disco ball shirt and sunglasses, and he kissed me! It was Sam Behrens, dressed up like that!

Questions: nigel says: Sarah, if you couldn't be an actress, what work would you like to do?

SarahBuxton: Well, I once wanted to go to the Cordon Bleu school of cooking, and become a chef.

Questions: liz2 says: Then are Tim and Meg going back to Kansas?

SarahBuxton: I don't think they're going back to Kansas. I think they're going to stay in Sunset Beach ;-) They got a taste of the fast life!

Questions: bubblyone says: Sarah, how long does it take you to prepare for you part in Sunset Beach? What's a typical day like for you?

SarahBuxton: Well, the day starts the day before. I learn my lines the night before, which takes about three hours. Then I go to sleep and get up by 5am. And while I'm in hair and makeup, I review my lines again. Then we do dry block, with is rehearsal without the camera, then we rehearse with the camera, then we go to tape. It ends up being a LONG day. It's like a 24 hour a day job!

Questions: beachgirl says: Sarah, what sorts of roles would you like to play. Have you done any stage work?

SarahBuxton: I'd like to try every kind of role. I don't want to be typecast, or limited. Yes, I have done lots of small theatre. I've doing a couple of George Bernard Shaw plays. My favorite stage play was called Overruled. It was set in the 20s, and I loved the costumes, and the accents. But once again, I played a Bad Girl!

Questions: stasee says: Who is in your opinion the hottest guy on the show?

SarahBuxton: They're all like little brothers to me ;-) But the hottest guy would have to be Hank. He's sexy, and his funny ... but .. he's married!!! So that makes him off limits ;-)

Questions: dave20 says: Sarah, I haven't really watched "Sunset Beach" a whole lot. I've never really been a soap fan, but when I turned on the TV and saw you, I said to myself, "now there's a reason to watch day time television. You are beautiful, keep up the good work on the show.

SarahBuxton: Thank you so much! You're too kind!

Questions: phobic says: What other actresses have been your role models? Who did you want to be when you grew up? :-)

SarahBuxton: Meryl Streep Jessica Lang also a couple of French actresses are Beatrice Dahl and Isabella Adjani

Questions: talker says: who was your all time favorite co-star?

SarahBuxton: I'd have to say Sam Behrens

Questions: parkbench says: I think it's great you're working with the Children's Cancer charity! Where and how can we get involved?

Questions: carrie says: from carrie: sunset beach is my favorite show I think its really cool do you ever go hang out with anyone from the show

SarahBuxton: I wish I had the paperwork in front of me ... I'll let it be known. Thank you. Yes, I do hang out with a lot of people from work. I am very good friends with Vanessa Dorman, and Susan Ward, and we get together a lot of the time! Vanessa lives near me so we go out to dinner a lot, and go to the gym together.

Questions: buttercuporiginal says: do you like being a villain?

SarahBuxton: Yes, I love being a villain! Because there are so many layers to the character -- you have to be smart, manipulative, and use all your weapons!

Questions: doug2 says: how old were you when you knew that you wanted to be an actress?

SarahBuxton: I think I was 14. Although when I was younger, I did a play (when I was 6) and I loved to play dress ups, and like all kids, I loved to pretend I was other characters, but I think 14 was when I professionally started.

Questions: carrie says: carrie says: I know this sounds weird but do u have a mansion? I always thought if you were on TV you 'd live in a big mansion

SarahBuxton: Oh Carrie, I hate to burst your bubble! I don't live in a mansion! I'd like to, and I'd like to tell you I do, but I don't.. Maybe one day. I'm sure Heather Locklear does!

Questions: ericakane says: Sarah, were you a Soap fan growing up, and how was your experience at the Soap Opera Awards?

SarahBuxton: I wasn't a soap fan growing up, though all my friends were. I watched General Hospital once in a while, but I never ditched school to watch soaps ;-)

Questions: carrie says: carrie asks: do you get nervous every time you go on or are you used to it by now?

SarahBuxton: I don't get nervous every time, but it does hit you every now and then, and you don't know why. I mean, everyone there is my friend, and we've known each other for so long, but sometimes, especially when there's a lot of dialogue, I get a little nervous.

Questions: q-man says: What's your favorite band or movie that you'd go and see?

SarahBuxton: I am crazy about Ben Harper, I love his music. And I really liked Great Expectations, and I loved Contact!

Questions: gloverteln says: how do you stay fit with such a busy schedule? Any exercise diet tips?

SarahBuxton: Well, I try to eat all my vegies ;-) I FORCE myself to go to the gym at least three times a week

Questions: qubert says: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?

SarahBuxton: (and I end up liking it) My advice would be to study acting, as much as you can, and read lots of plays, Read True or False by David Mamet. It's a great book for anyone who is starting out in acting, SarahBuxton: or who has been acting for a long time.

Questions: brittney says: are u able to give us any clues as to whats going to happen to your character

SarahBuxton: I'm not allowed to! I've been sworn to secrecy. SarahBuxton: I even get memos at work, reminding me not to tell you *anything*! But I can assure you, that Annie will be up to no good!

Questions: q-man says: How long has it taken for you to hit the *Big Screen*?

SarahBuxton: I've done little parts in movies all along, intermixed with television, but this last movie is definitely a great role. I guess it's taken years!

Questions: meriwidow says: what has been the best advantage of being an actress? What has been the biggest drawback?

SarahBuxton: The best advantage is that you get to live all kinds of different lives and experience what all kinds of different people would go through. The disadvantage would have to be the insecurity of the whole job, and opening yourself up to all the emotions, and pouring your guts out, and possible facing rejection. It's a very insecure type of profession.

Questions: glasgow says: Do you ever find time for chat (except for now of course)?

SarahBuxton: I've done a couple of them. But I'd like to get involved with more of them. It's fun to talk with the fans!

Questions: camillia says: Has your family always been supportive of your decision to act as a career?

SarahBuxton: Yes, they've always been supportive, but they also were very much into me getting my education, so that was difficult with I really really wanted to focus on acting. Also the fact that acting is so up and down, it was hard for them to say "YES, do that with your life!" But they understand my passion for it.

Questions: lavendar says: Who has been the greatest influence on your career decisions.

SarahBuxton: I would have to say that I've had to rely on myself and my own instincts, to really make the right decisions, because I have to live with what I decide. So, I try to just rely on myself ;-)

Questions: minerva says: This may sound odd, but how did they decide to use Sunset Beach as the local for the show?

SarahBuxton: They never told us!

Questions: treast says: have you been able to do a lot of traveling? Where do you like to go most?

SarahBuxton: Yes, I have been able, and it's one of my favorite things to do, and it's one of the advantages of being an actress. One of my favorite places is Europe, especially Italy and the coastline of Spain, I also really loved New Zealand. It was so beautiful, and green! I would really like to go to Asia soon.

Questions: glasgow says: Do you know of any British/Australian soaps (e.g. Neighbors, Eastenders, Home and Away) and if so how do you feel they compare with US daytime soaps?

SarahBuxton: The only one I have seen, that you mentioned, is Neighbors, and I thought it was great! I really enjoyed it! I think it's great when then stick to their country, rather than trying to be American. It's great to get a feeling for their culture, their values and their current events.

Questions: bothofus says: Do you think you'd ever wind up working in the New York TV or stage venue?

SarahBuxton: Yes, I'm sure one day I will! A lot of the soaps are in New York, and that's where all the good theatre is, so if I ever decide to do theatre, I'll probably go to New York. I just recently saw Rent, and that was very inspirational!

Questions: beverlyhillbilly says: are you allowed any creativity with Annie? Any input on her character or dialog?

SarahBuxton: Definitely, I'm allowed a certain amount of creativity. Not with the dialog so much, but with the character. I can discuss certain things with the director, so it's really a collaborative effort.

Questions: fresia says: Acting is so emotion filled. Do you often find the character you are playing spilling over into your personal life?

SarahBuxton: Sometimes I do find that happening, but I try to catch it because Annie is *not* a good character to bring home. But when you play a character every day, you have to really monitor your emotions. I would hope to never be so mean to people!

Questions: jocasta says: I'm really glad you're on the show. You've brought a nice fresh jolt to daytime TV. Do you think when SB raps up you'd do another TV show? Maybe evening time? Or are you going to take a break from a regular TV series for a while?

SarahBuxton: Well if Sunset Beach wraps up, I would love to do another show. I like working in television a lot, and would definitely like to do an evening show. But who knows what's in the cards?? ;-)

Questions: pipo says: is there a famous role you always wanted to do

SarahBuxton: Just recently I've been thinking about that. I heard that Madonna and Courtney Love are going to redo Whose Afraid of Baby Jane? That would be a fun role, but of course they're already cast. Also, if they ever make another Star Wars movie I would love to be in it!

Questions: glasgow says: If the opportunity arose to move and work on TV/Film in another country (e.g. UK where I am ;-) ) would you maybe take up on it?

SarahBuxton: Absolutely! I am always open to travel, and new experiences in other countries!

Questions: cccmyst says: Sarah, it's been a pleasure to have you here this evening. Is there anything else that we haven't touched on that you would like to add?

SarahBuxton: I can't think of anything, but I'd welcome more questions at another time. Thank you so much for having me tonight, and I'd love to come back again!

MeriCCC: Our show has come to an end this evening. We thank YOU our Great Audience, and a very special thank you to our guest Sarah Buxton

A supermarket tabloid recently reported that B&B stars ADRIENNE FRANTZ (Amber) and SARAH BUXTON (Morgan), who have been friends since both were on SUNSET BEACH when that show premiered, were at odds... but there is no truth to the reports, Adrienne tells Soap Opera Digest. It was Sarah who told Adrienne about the piece in the first place, and the two had a laugh at the claims, which made no sense. Adrienne answered several points in the story: that she and Sarah fight over dressing rooms (Adrienne has had the same room since she joined the show in 1997), that they clash over wardrobes (Amber and Morgan have totally different styles) and that they are at odds about their stories (both are in front-burner stories right now). Neither actress has any idea where the story came from, although they and other guests got to laugh about it when Sarah was one of Adrienne's guests for Easter dinner.
