My Surfing Adventure by Chris Davies About two months ago I was sitting at my oceanfront house pondering what to do since the waves were flat. Then I saw this huge Carnival cruise line ship go by and I couldn’t help but notice the size of the perfect peeling rights and lefts that trailed the boat. I was thinking, wow, that would be the best if I could go out there and ride these waves. From where I was it looked like they were a little overhead and even had the occasional barrel. So after the ship was out of site I went to the travel agency to find out the numbers to any big cruise lines. I kinda knew they would all quickly reject my offer to ride the wake but I was bored and it was worth a try. So first I called up the least known ships and they thought I was crazy and would kill myself. So when I got the big companies I thought that if the smaller ones rejected me then the bigger ones definitely would. Well, I was wrong. Carnival said that it sounded very interesting and that they would think about it and call me back. I was going nuts. I couldn’t believe that they were actually going to think about it. As any person would, I went to my local surf shop where I work and told them. Obviously they didn’t believe me but when I showed them the fax Carnival sent me they were astounded. They thought I was crazy yet a genius for coming up with this idea. They asked me when they were going to call me back and I told the about a week. The whole week I could hardly sleep. I couldn’t think about anything else. When Carnival called me I quickly thought that they rejected my idea but to my suprise they thought that this would give them the most publicity ever. They were asking me where, when and how long I would want to do this. I came up with an idea though. I thought since the wave never stops I could try to make a world record about riding a wave the longest. They asked me what it currently was and I told them probably like an hour or something. Actually it was two hours and 43 minutes. We also needed to figure out how I was going to eat and drink and I figured out that I could get one of those backpack hydration things and have pockets with some kind of food in it. I was hoping this would work so I went to my local break and tried. It took a little practice but I got it. I was getting calls from everywhere about sponsors and I decided to make Lost surfboards my board sponsor and a bunch of other companies for the other ones. Since carnival was letting me do this for free I was getting tons of free goods and money from everywhere. This was the best time of my life. I decided to do this in August and in the Atlantic Ocean near my home state Rhode Island. August came and almost every surfing company and magazines were there. I was the most popular surfer in the world now. We had to figure out how to get me out there and on the wave and also what to do in case I fall off. There will be photography boats everywhere and also rescue boats trailing behind. The day came and we were almost ready to do it. It was kinda weird that Rhode Island not known that well for surfing was full of every surfing thing that you could imagine. We were ready to go and I got onto the wave and started riding it. I chose the right since I am a regular foot. At first it was weird but come to think of it, it was the best wave I have ever ridden. I started even getting barrels. I was getting thirsty so I decided to try to get a drink. That worked very well. Everything was working the way we planned. About two hours and forty five minutes went by and I just broke the record. I was amazed. I was getting really tired though and at about 3 hours and 50 minutes I just got off and hopped into a boat. I was the local hero. Everyone in the region knew about me and I even received a lifetime pay check from Carnival cruise lines and Lost Surfboards for $50,000 a year! I decided to keep my job at the surf shop too and was set for life, all because I was bored on a flat summer day and went for a dream, and it came true. THE END
