Review

Starscape is a rather impressive shooter that really seems interesting enough..the only problem is well all I've played is the demo. It's a good enough demo for what it is but I can't help wanting a better taste.

Well it seems those damn aliens have sent the human race running for cover. Now a lone ship has just recovered some Top Ace pilot that could very well save humanity. I'm not sure on the details but oh well. Graphically it looks very nice and while not 3D it's some of the nicer 2D I've seen in a US-developed shooter. The game plays sort of like games like the NES game Solar Jetman along with the Dreamcast game Armada(Hey Metro3D when are we going to see Armada 2?). You start off in the tutorial(well you sort of end there too since it is a fairly long one and the demo ends after a scant 20 minutes). You start off by mining these asteroids to gain minerals to repair your ships and add new weaponary and such. You then square off with some aliens and just like that it's over.

Controls are solid enough since you get four keys to work with at the start. You have your thrusters which are handled with up and down, next you have your regular cannon which can damage foes and also destroy asteriods, a sort of vaccuum thing that can grab the minerals to deposit in the larger base-like ship, rockets for blasting foes and doing far more damage, and another key for calling the ship when you need to dock for repairs or need that extra assistance in battle(Be careful though because both ships have energy meters and it's Game Over if either one of them goes). The demo ends before you see any real amount of challenge and of course the pictures afterwards make the game seem seriously awesome(As is the case with most demos) but at least you..ah..get what you paid for(with the demo at least).

If this is the kind of thing that strikes you as interesting go ahead and give it a whirl. It's a dandy little game from what little I've played and just might something quite good.
