Reiki is the simplest, and possibly the most profound, of a hands-on energy healing system.  The word Reiki comes from two parts: REI, meaning Universal Source (God, Goddess, Creator, Higher force in your life), and KI, meaning Life for Energy.  Thus, Reiki is Life Force Energy guided by the Universal Source.  Its roots can be traced back at least 3000 years to China and Japan; the technique was rediscovered and made popular in recent times (dating to the late 1800's) by Dr Mikao Usui.

In Reiki, the healing energy flows from the Universal Source, through the practitioner, into the recipient.  The recipient, consciously or subconsciously, draws as much healing energy as she/he needs and wants.  This Life Force Energy creates a state of deep relaxation in which the body can begin to heal itself.  Unlike other energetic healing methods Reiki does not "drain" the healer.  Reiki is possessed by everyone; being trained or attuned to the levels of Reiki means to discover this force within yourself and to be able to use it to heal yourself and others.

As a healing technique, Reiki can ease stress and tension, clears energy blockages caused by physical, emotional and environmental toxins, ease or eliminate pain, speed healing and may assist the body's abilities to utilise all types of treatments.   It can also reduce effects of conventional treatments, strengthens the immune system, relieve fatigue and replenish the body.   Reiki heals on all levels; physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.

Reiki has its own intelligence and flows exactly where it is needed.  Reiki doesn't use manipulation of the body in any way.   It is not a form of massage.  Reiki energy flows from the Universal Source through the practitioner.  Therefore, practitioner, rather than feeling drained, feels relaxed and replenished.   The training for practicing Reiki is the attunement process, where your energy is focused and intensified.  The attunement, which can only be passed by a Reiki Master, allows any individual (including Children) to practice Reiki, and is given in three stages.

Reiki does not require or use any specific beliefs - it simply is.  The life force energy exists and flows whether or not we believe in it.   This energy has been the heart of Eastern Medicine for thousands of years.  Reiki is not a religion or dogma.  Although it can heal on the spiritual level and can open both receiver and practitioner to a deeper spiritual understanding, religion is not a part of Reiki.

Reiki has so many benefits both to the practitioner and the client.  A Reiki Session can relax you, give you a more restful night's sleep, provide some pain relief, enhance from illness or surgery, and help you feel more at peace with yourself and the world.  Regular Reiki sessions can strengthen you both body and sprit, aid your immune system, reduce some of the effects of chronic illness, ease discomfort and bring a measure of peace to those who are terminally ill ... or to those who are caring for chronically or terminally ill patients.

Reiki's uses, however, are not limited purely to the area of healing.  It can also be used as a tool for spiritual growth, empower goals and overcome obstacles, relieve stress, as a means of protection on all levels, to charge up the food we eat and liquid we drink with energy, etc.  Because of the nature by which it works, the only limit to the uses is that our imagination ... and even that can be affected by the Reiki energy.
