Destiny's Child

Though the occasional comparisons to the Supremes are hyperbolic, to say the least, the Rise of Destiny's Child has been similary Meteoric. And like its pioneering Motown heroes, The Houston-based R&B group has endured more Than its share of internal strife. Personnel troubles Not withstanding, however, Destiny's Child's Success has been fueled mostly by hard work and An indefatigable spirit. Almost a decade into its Existence, the quartet - whose members are still In their teens - exhibits a solid professionalism Comparable to that of veterans twice their age. Wall of Sound

Dorothy Dandridge

Dorothy Jean Dandridge was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 9, 1922. Under the prodding of her mother, Dorothy and her sister began performing publicly usually in black Baptist churches throughout the country. Her mother, an entertainer herself and the daughter of Madame Sul-Te-Wan, an actress from Kentucky, would often join her daughters on stage. As the depression worsened, Dorothy and her family picked up and moved to Los Angeles where they had hopes of finding better work, perhaps in film. Her first film was in the Marx Brothers comedy, A Day At The Races in 1937. It was only a bit part but Dorothy had hopes that it would blossom into something better. But because she was a black woman in a very prejudiced society, she didn't land the roles that were readily available to her white counterparts. more ....
Mya Harrison

Mya has earned the respect of her peers with hard work in and out of the studio. Along with her solo efforts and collaborations, Mya has emerged as a powerful and popular concert act, bringing her unique vocals and dancing skills (Mya trained as a dancer for years) to stages across the U.S. Following the release of her 1998 platinum-plus self-titled debut, Mya hit the road, logging miles on 98's leg of the Smokin' Grooves Tour, as well as concerts throughout the U.S. In 1999, Mya was a featured main stage act on the Lilith Fair Tour and even though Mya had honed her stage act, being part of Lilith was daunting. "I was really nervous," Mya admits. "But, the feedback from the audiences was really good and I met a lot of great artists from all different genres of music. The whole experience was very embracing."

Crazytown

With the urban squalor of South Central just minutes away from the glamour and glitz of Beverly Hills, the Los Angeles metropolitan area is easily one of the most dynamic and volatile socio-cultural environments on the planet. Therefore, it really should come as no surprise that this location would produce some of the most explosive amd stylistically synergistic music of the modern era. Crazy Town, a seven-man band based in the City of Angels, redirects the course of modern music with The Gift of Game, their debut album on Columbia Records. Spearheaded by lyricists/vocalists/producers Shifty Shellshock and Epic Mazur, who've been key behind-the-scenes players on the L.A. rap scene for the past eight years, Crazy Town masterfully combines hip-hop's lyrical attitude and rhythmic sass with the sonic musculature of live rock instrumentation.
