Education
| M.L.I.S., The Graduate School of Library and
Information Studies, University of Rhode Island, S.
Kingston, Rhode Island, August, 1999. My program centered on evaluating and improving reference services in academic, public and special
libraries. Narrower focus has included: teaching Internet and database searching; bibliographic instruction; teaching research; evaluating access to information by people with disabilities; studying web page design and web usability studies; and reorganization and re-cataloging local history collections for better patron access, both in the library, and online via the Internet. This last project was my professional field experience. While working at the Tiverton Public Library, and studying Internet searching and bibliographic instruction at GSLIS/URI, I developed an original "hands-on" course for beginners in using the Internet and searching strategies. This 6-hour course has been offered free at the Essex Library in Tiverton since 1997, and has had over 80 people pass through it. It has become one of the most popular and requested of the adult programs.
