unofficial NDYA page dedicated 2 the 97&98team tournaments

Welcome to my homepage. I decided to make this page a tribute page to the NDYA National team tournament that happened in 1997 and 1998 in hagerstown MD. I, myself bowl in a youth league at Hearthside Lanes in Rhode Island, and I attended these last 2 tournaments and decided to make this a tribute page. 1997 was the 24th annual tournament. PREPS- AMF Pikesville captured the Prep championship, with a team of Eric Satisky, Adam Rabinowitz, Alyssa Schaper, Aleita Johnson, and Jared Johnson, and their coach Glenn Segal. Schaper led the team w 57pinsover and Rabinowitz was 2nd w 56 over. Runners up were AMF middlesex: MichaelDark, Wayne Brubach, Cory Aubin, Randy Himes, Shannon Gervais, and coach John Bennett. BANTAMS-the 97 bantam championship went to Victory Lanes in Virginia with the team of Don Ferguson, Brian Kindley, Brianna Vain, Brittany Long, and Ashley Johnson. Kindley led the team with 65pins over. they had a score of 2160. Comin in 2nd was Holiday Lanes CT- with tournament MVP Matt Airhart, 111 pins over, including a 155 game and other teamates included Brian Langan, Richard Thorpe, Danny Airhart, and Erik Loteczka, and coatch Walter Loteczka. they lost by 5pins with a 2155set. JUNIORS-the 97junior championship went to Hearthside Lanes, with a score of 2226, and a record setting 3rd game handicap with 788. a team consisting of Gallison Desnoyers, Jeff Vermillion, Alicyn Costa, Brian Lussier, and Brian Day. Desnoyers led the team w 73 pins over, while Vermillion had 63, Costa 62, and Lussier 52. Runners up were MetroWashington with a team of Mindy Thomas, Michael Abell, Todd Pyles, Billy Bartlett, and Billy Thomas, w a score of 2202. Mindy Thomas led the team with a 443 set. They set a record for game scratch w a 1st game of 690 scratch. MAJORS- the 97major championship went to CTyouth travel as they went 2229, winning by 3 pins, and setting records for Major all women teams. the team consisting of Elena Malia, Corrie Pelczar, Melissa Malia, Amanda Robustelli, and Beth Church. Church led the team w a 447 scratch set, and Robustelli added a 420 set. Runners up were Hearthsides major team, 3 pins away from a national win. The team consisting of Becky Weidele, Anthony Francisco, Malynda Costa, Nathan Moreau, and Scott St. Jean. Moreau led the team w 98 pins over his avg. while St.Jean bowled a 447 scratch set with a 168 game. 1998 1998 PREPS- The 1998 National youth team tournament started off with the Glen Burnie Bowl prep team winning the national championship. This was a very special win for Glen Burnie because several days after the states, their coach, Robert Conley was killed in an accident. This was an unfortunate tragic event for Glen Burnie but they won by 2 pins, and this was just an amazing win. This team was led by Candace Ruppert, Amanda Edwards, Nicholas Hively, Gary White Jr., and Adam Dolch, and substitute coach Marion Dorr. Dolch led the team w a 354 scratch set. The runners up was the Connecticut prep team from Laurel Lanes that lost by 2 pins. This team consisted of Garry Heller, Patrick Webb, Howard Hakulin, Kelly Hakulin, and Kevin Stetson, and coach Lori Deane. Stetson led the team w a 315 scratch series. 3rdplaceVirginiaPlazaBowl 4thplace WesternMD VillageLanes 5thplaceAMFJOPPA NEMD 6thplace RhodeIsland TownHallLanes 7thplace MetroWashington WhiteOakLanes BANTAMS-The bantams from Seidel's Bowling Lanes in NE MD won the bantam championship. This bantam team bowled a handicap final score of 2216. This team consisted of Vince Arnold, Ryan Everhart, Mike Piorunski, Chris Arnold, and Donald Sweep, and coach Mike Piorunski. Piorunski led the team w a 377 scratch series and a 148 game. Sweep also had a 353 set. Runners up were Connecticut Holiday Lanes w a final score of 2185. This team consisted of Amanda Trudeau, Mac Kenzie Lisciotti, Lance Lisciotti, Ryan Thorpe, and Erik Loteczka, and coach Walter Loteczka. Loteczka led the team with a 392 scratch set. 3rd place went to AMF Pikesville SW MD, 4th place went to RI Hearthside Lanes, 5thplace went to Metro Washington AMF College Park, 6thplace went to WMD Long Meadow Bowl, 7th place went to Virginia Plaza Bowl. JUNIORS- the 98 junior championship went to WMD Village Lanes, w a score of 2220. This team consisted of SteveStevens, Allen Gastley, Tim Biser, Josh Moore, and Melissa Rhoderick, and coach Kathi O'Bryan. Moore led the team w a 146game and a 391scratch set. The runners up were NEMD Parkville Lanes, with a score of 2100. This team consisted of Elaina Watkins, Erik Jenkins, Mike Williams, Deanna Cullison, and Dennis Bilz,and coach Debbi Silver. Williams led the team w a 354 scratch set. 3rd place was Metro-Washington AMF CollegePark. Billy Thomas led them with a 421 scratch set. 4th place was RI Hearthside Lanes. 5th place was Virginia Bowlarama. 6th place was CT Lucky Strike Lanes, and 7th was SW MD AMF Pikesville. MAJORS- the 98 major championship went to HearthsideLanes in Rhode Island. This was Hearthsides 2nd national in the last 2 years. This team consisted of Chris Day, Brian Lussier, Donny Doyle, Tommy Larsen, and MIke Ranucci, and coach Michael Larsen. Lussier led the team w a 456 scratchset, 168game, and was MVP w 123 pins over. Larsen also had a 407 scratch set.Hearthide set a national record w a 2233 set, the highest of any major boys team ever. The runners up were Virgia Victory Lanes, and this team went 2215, and consisted of Travis Dortch, Tommy Ricks, James Taliaferro, Billy Schoenfeld, and Brandon Long,and coach Raymond Askew. Long led the team w a 441 set. 3rd place was Metro Washington GWTDTL and Mike Abell led the team w a 414 scratch set. 4th was Village Lanes WMD and Michelle Rhoderick led the team w a 402 scratch set. 5th was CT T-Bowl led by Brian Kupisz's 446 set. SWMD AMF Southwest finished 6th led by Ryan Watkins' 423 set, and NE MD Independent Youth Travel finished 7th led by Becky Steve's 402 scratch set.
