Explorational Work IThese are what I call Negative Paintings.Painting, drawing or manipulating processed film (or other translucent material) which is then printed as if it were a photograph. Translucent colors are reversed, "negative" or opposite in the finished image. Opaque color or line, such as opaque ink will create a white line or shape. Additional considerations when working this way include a small working area (approximately 1 x 1½ inches) and the layering of color. The final Negative Painting image is a combination of light, a number of mediums and various techniques. Negative Paintings can be printed in the same sizes that a photograph can be printed with a few exceptions.

Bird and Gift
An exploration of this technique. The blue/white soft/hard line is a water soluble ink that has been drawn against on one side with a wet brush. The idea behind this kind of gift seems like an act of kindness. |
Celebration
Watercolor and a nonsoluble ink were used in this one. It feels like the spirit in a dance. |
