Since 1975, more than 200.000 East Timorese have been killed by Indonesia--about one third of East Timor population. East Timor is an island 400 km north of Darwin. In 1974, Portugal the former colonial ruler of East Timor began to withedraw. On 28 November 1975, after a brief civil war, East Timor declared its independence.
