Notes
The cover insert, with Eddie and David (circa 1982-83), is somewhat
animated- with an effect similar to the Dire Straits "Money For
Nothing" video. The back of the insert has a picture of all four
band members bowing during an encore. It, also, contains the
following text:
"Hey, Pilgrims. Wanna hear something that rocks? This is it! Van
Halen doing a home town gig. A great soundboard performance! Also
included are three tracks from Kyoto, Japan 1979 to round off the
set. Enjoy the sound of this band before all the squabbling and
in-fighting.
Much thanks to all involved, but especially Toni (a rolling stone
gathers no) for all her support. Dedicated to Stryder the Bear Dog."
Under the cd, in the jewel case, is a picture of the VH Christmas card.
The disc itself is all red and simply reads,
"CIVIC PRIDE
GARJR 001
FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY"
On the back of the case, "Feel Your Love Tonight" is mistitled for
the Kyoto, Japan show. It reads: "I Can't Wait To Feel Your Love
Tonight".
The sound quality of this disc is very similar to the Atomic Punk boot-
a very raw soundboard recording. The Pasadena show is a very worthy
addition to any VH collection. Overall the CD is a must have, it's their
second to last club gig before the release of VH1 (VH1 was in the can at
the time) a month later.
The three tunes from Japan are from a relatively horrible audience
recording and the sound is very distant on these tracks. In my
estimation, they are a complete waste of disc space.
Dave's stage rap is very minimal- leading me to believe that it was cut
out when the manufacturer made this package.
All in all, this is a good disc- on par with the Atomic Punk release of
the same show. Don't expect anything Earth shattering from the Japan
show, though.
