The Ancient Romans were a race of hygiene fanatics. They built a large bath houses in the city so all citizens could come and wash. Most of these bath houses were built by the Roman Emperors so the people could bathe for free. The baths were not just for washing. Most Romans went to the baths to socialise and catch the latest gossip or just relax after a hard days work. The baths were open until nightfall when the Romans would go home and have dinner. The Roman baths are an amazing feat in architecture and parts of them sill survive today.
