Comedy

During the 70's, sitcoms became more realistic. Gone were the days when Jeannie could do anything just by crossing her arms and blinking her eyes. Now we had Archie Bunker, Maude, Fred Sanford, and Barney Miller. Things could still get nutty at times...let's not forget Monty Python or the Muppets!

Music & Variety

The 70's saw the last of the great TV variety shows. Change was in the air, and the cutting-edge comedy of shows like Saturday Night Live began to replace the traditional programs we had watched for decades. Music programs were as popular as ever, with many shows focusing on the new soul and disco styles.

Other Shows & Specials

The game shows were hilarious, the Christmas specials were full of holiday cheer, and Johnny Carson was the king of late-night TV. Rich Man, Poor Man and Roots were the first real mini-series, and PBS allowed us to view the intimate details of An American Family.

Kids Shows

Educational shows taught letters, numbers, and good old-fashioned manners, and many kids learned more from Schoolhouse Rock than they did in their own classrooms. Sid & Marty Krofft created colorful worlds that we all longed to visit, and those meddling kids on Scooby-Doo were always foiling someone's evil plot.
