many of my fellow students, enjoying lunch in an old - make that ancient -
arena in philippi. we later staged a reenactment of both a gladiator
fight and one of those man-getting-ripped-apart-by-lions things. there
is actually still tunnels and rooms underneath that they kept the lions
in, and the path leading into the arena...scary stuff.

we went strolling around a shoreline
in philippi, where the water looked tropical.
dad, i just wanted you to know i'm holding true, no matter what they
say! (and believe me, they say a lot...)
also since i keep writing 'philippi' in all these captions for the pictures
from philippi...here's a note: they actually spell philippi 'filippoi'.
so there you go, you've been wrong your whole life. that should give
you a bit of humility for your day.
here's me descending into the canyon...you can't blame me for the bad
picture because that's me in the air. also it looks like i was just
dropping down through the air, but in actuality i had to bounce myself
off of rocks and stuff. you just can't see that in this picture, due
to my stopping such bouncing to pose for the inept cameraperson.
