Okay, this show kicks @$$. It must be the very first show with a big fat goatee-wearing gamer as the hero. \m/ Coop! PLUS, the show's "chick" is in no way the "token female." Kiva isn't a typical TV chick at all. She's not a b*tch, or a ho, or an airhead, or a doormat. She's actually cool. And then there's Jaime, who is the self-proclaimed chick magnet, to round the show out. So, here's the formula: Goofball Hero + Skinny Coward + @$$-Kickin'-Non-Bitch-Chick = Cast of Megas XLR. oh yeah, and there's Goat, too... i don't know how to label Goat, which is cool, b/c he's also not a typical cookie-cutter cartoon character.

What i really love about this show is that it's a parody of the entire anime/action 'toon genre, and it's a great show in it's own right. It's constantly poking fun at itself- not to mention Pop Culture. Example: During a big battle (which ones aren't big, i wonder?), an explosion is caused by an oil refinery, which is labeled "Convenient Oil Refinery" (that one had me rolling on the grad dang floor). Example #2: the obligatory "oh-no-i-have-to-babysit-for-my-bratty-little-cousin" episode is titled "Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Coop." Anyone remember a movie called "Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead?" Plus, all the videogame references, anime references, etc... and it's all so sneakily stuck in. It's amazingly subtle. Bet you didn't think "subtle" was a word you'd find on this page, eh? Some parodies/references/jabs are obvious, though- Transformers, Sailor Moon, Power Rangers... It's an homage to every giant robot show ever. This show has major geek-appeal.

I also love the animation- the style is an oringinal and appealing not-quite-anime-but-obviously-anime-influenced type of thing; very high quality. There's actually shading and highlights and perspective and all sorts of other art terms. See, i'm pretty sick of anime infiltrating american cartoons- and this is just the breath of fresh air i needed. Don't know about you guys...

Overall, it's a funny, smart, high-quality, extremely unique show- and i love it!
