| The YZF750 USD suspension... |
As you've might
know I bought a wrecked YZF750 a while ago to rip the whole front end off and
fit it to my Vmax.
Well, I fit it all right, using a FZR1000 wheel, (cause it was almost the same
as the YZF750 and it was all I had at the time), and the allmighty 6pot calipers.
People talk a lot about the monoblock calipers from the Yamahas R1 and R6. I
didn't try any of those, but I've tried a bunch of other calipers and I can tell
you the YZF750 calipers are some of the best braking systems I've tried so far.
Very powerful, progressive and controlled braking feeling. And I'm using the
Vmax stock master cylinder. Of course steel braided lines are a must always.
To fit the front
end to the Vmax I simply got a Vmax steering stem pressed on into the YZF750
bottom triple tree. Done this, the whole setup will simply bolt-on to the bike.
Ok, I still have a few drawbacks; I've lost a lot of turnability (looks like a
Ducati :-) and since I'm not using a stepped down top triple tree, the bike is
considerably lower at the front; check some of the pics. But I like it this way
and I'm going to keep it this way.
New steering bearings were installed and I got a very, very nice RairoTec
CNC machined top triple tree so I could fit my dragbar. A couple of Fiat Uno
side blinkers were fited to the ends of each bar grip with all the wiring going
inside the dragbar, and that solved the ehh... blinking matter.
Well, that was about it. Check the following pics for an overall look of the ending result.
