Final Fantasy X

Coming straight from Square after a year long holiday, the 10th Final Fantasy in the series was the best at it's time. Final Fantasy XI has since topped it, but as I do not have that game yet, you are resigned to reading about this.

The graphics are beyond anything else to be seen on the PS2, except perhaps it's successor, and the fighting style is much better than IX, where a player could spend the first week just trying to figure out the battle system.

My fave character in this game is Tidus, a young heroic Blitzball player, and the main character. That's him you can see in the background.
